I read a review of this the other day... its got 1 star becuase the biting scenes were on the wrong side of the neck... what a stupid fucking reason to give it one star. it looks amazing.
Without a doubt one of my absolute favorite vampire movie all of times. I own it!!! A true classic before the Twilight mania! And I agree with you all Frank Langella is so SEXY in this movie unlike the twits they have playing vampires today!
@Dellschick68 A very overrated portrayal of Dracula but not as overrated as Gary Oldman-who is a very fine actor. A real hash made of the story. Langella cannot "hang" with Lugosi, Palance, or Louis Jordan. I respect Lee's performances but he has so little dialogue in most of the Hammer films its hard to judge.
is this a good film version? is there nudity? i liked the 1992 version better than the 1931 film, though Bela Lugosi was excellent as Dracula. but the 1992 version was closer to the novel, with some minor liberties taken that served to expand and help the story rather than hurt it.
The suspense of when Jonathan Harker's caleche is surrounded by Transylvanian wolves.
And later when Dracula calls the wolves down from the mountains to devour this one woman banging at his door screaming for her baby back, despite the fact that it had already been killed by Dracula's brides.
This movie didn't even have any scenes set in Transylvania.
If budget concerns were not involved, you can be sure because those scenes show the evil and demonic character of Dracula and his brides--not in keeping with this "revisionist" Dracula. Langella was better than Gary Oldman in Francis Ford Coppola's...sorry I meant to say Bram Stoker's (?) Dracula--but Lugosi, Lee, Palance, and most of all Louis Jourdan were much better.
I didn't either, but it kept in credit with the opening credits where they said the movie was based on the Dean/Balderstone play. This was the 1927 Broadway production that was cited by the 1931 version, scripted by Garrett Fort. In that movie, and that play Mina died, and in both she was Dr Seward's daughter.
this version is pretty good, stylish and an effective atmosphere. it would have been great if laurence olivier had had the chance to reflect his cross off donald pleasence's bald head because that would have scared off frank langella!!!! lol!!
Jonh Badham fez isso e ainda concorreu ao Oscar por trilha sonora instrumental assinada por JONH "STAR WARS, TUBARÃO, INDIANA JONES, E.T., SUPERMAN" WILLIANS, em 1980
Never blame Frank Langella for his portrayal of a sexy vampire. He didn't write the incorrect script but portrayed "Dracula" wonderfully. If you wish to find the truest rendering of Bram Stoker's DRACULA, find the PBS mini-series which aired four weeks in a row, two hours a piece starring Louis Jordan. This one should be viewed in its entirety. I feel that Frank would agree! ~ Janet
It could have been better - the romance was once thing, but for the practical, logical ladies out there, it didn't work so well...so we take what we can from it and enjoy it!!
Just a masterwork of a Film. Langella is absolute gold in this adaptation of his broadway smash. Combine that with Willaims striking score and this is a must see classic.
Ive always watched horror movies and have seen many Dracula movies but they always seemed over the top, a bit camp and not scarey. This film however, gave me nightmares for years after seeing it. Considering it was made in the 70s, its amazing how it still hits a nerve. If you have'nt seen it and your a fan of horror, make a point to see it.
Saw this back in -82 on our first VHS and it blewed my mind, was only 10 y o at the time....saw it again som 20 years later and I must say its still pretty good.
My favorite thing about this movie is how they took "Listen to them, children of the night! What sweet music they make!" That made Dracula seem evil and dark and changed it too "Listen to them, the children of the night. What sad music they make..." And showed that Dracula is not just angry but sorrowful of his own existence haha. Sorry for the long comment. Just had to get my view point out ^_^ ALL WHO WANT TO RAPE FRANK ARE MY FRIENDS!!!!
Langalla gave Drac. such a regalness, that other Dracula's missed. This guy is a decendent of royalty. That feline, independence is amazing. Even in how slow he speaks, like he's got all day to kill you. So sexy..in twisted way.
Langella is always underrated,But always does great work esp. here, and in Lolita remake and currently in Frost/Nixon-i hope he is nominated and wins the gold guy next year
sexy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why is it every version lacks two key scenes?
The suspense of when Jonathan Harker's caleche is surrounded by Transylvanian wolves.
And later when Dracula calls the wolves down from the mountains to devour this one woman banging at his door screaming for her baby back, despite the fact that it had already been killed by Dracula's brides.

@RPenta Glad you knowledged the Louis Jourdan version produced by the BBC back 1977. Which is perhaps the nearest to what Stoker envisioned!!!!!!!!!!
To be fair, Coppola's verison was a good attempt though he could've casted better actors to play Harker and Mina
