@whatthephil I don't see why you want to do that when website is ready to move to server I suggest you look google as u can export your database, upload your wordpress folder on your machine, import database and change your db details in the wp-config.php file!
Great intro, but can you show how to go to the ONLINE server from the local one? I've found loads of stuff on how to complete cut up your code for the online version, but that doesn't allow you to keep going back and forth from local to online. I want a seamless back and forth solution for safety!
1. Type localhost/wordpress (your project folder name) instead localhost:8888/wordpress
2. If you see Retry button it means that your not Installed Wordpress yet. Using browser inside Dreamweaver CS5 press Ctrl+Click (link) instead Clicking. For installing Wordpress search in Youtube. (it is easy to install)
Mate, don't know how I can express my gratitude. I consider myself fairly computer literate but I have literally spent HOURS reading one tutorial after another, trying hundreds of different things to get this to work. Your video was the first that explained things in a simple and direct manner. I had to tweak a few other things (it didn't like it that word press was directly installed in the htp docs folder - needed sub folder) but now it WORKS!!! IF you are ever in London, beers are on me :D
Make sure your database is set up correctly, if you still get errors.
It's not letting me post a link to the tutorial for the database creation, but if you search for "How To Create A Wordpress Database In phpMyAdmin", you should find it.
PS - in windows, you don't put localhost:8888, you only put localhost.
Thank you! I have spent all day on this. I tried to avoid yours, as you are walking through a mac and I have a PC... but yours was by far the best. I have it now... it only took all day :) Thank you sooooooooo much.
It would be excellent if you had a tutorial just like this, only for Joomla. It seems a lot trickier to set up. I think I got it working, but I have nowhere as many detected linked css/php/js pages as WordPress or Drupal tutorials for DW.
Can anyone confirm? I seem to be able to edit the themes and everything, but seeing a confirmation would be nice. Thanks
Seems like everything support related to DW-CS5 & WP is related to incorporating a new site build as opposed to taking an existing instance of WP & maintaining it within DW going forward. Copying WP folders & files from remote server and pasting into a local "testing" server won't solve the issues inherent to MySQL & WP. Has anyone seen a video tutorial that explains in detail this much more complex issue?
Dude, you just saved my life, my partner's life, the life of my 2 cats, and several nearby strangers. LOL Thanks! Somehow DW had changed my server address back to the htdocs folder. Once I fixed that, it worked perfectly. Thanks for saving me hours of frustration!
Great video, but Im wondering if CS5 can connect to a allready published site? have made the connection via ftp but locally it wont start? Got wamp running like before i uploaded, but what do I need to do to check my changes before I publish them?
@dickaldor you would be uploading the whole wordpress Id just zip the theme folder and upload it using the theme uploader in wordpress on the server rather than ftp it
@xxkayziexx I have been considering but I guess I have made a mistake of not telling people to subscribe so it means its luck weather if my next tutorial gets a good amount of attention.
@Samb0123 I don't think that's a mistake, it was your first video :) Plus, I'm not sure how many people pay attention to that kind of thing.. Plus, this video managed to get 2,600 views and counting, so I'm sure your next video will be just as popular.
If you enjoy making the vids, then why not make a couple more?
Alright I have done everything you've said and I am still getting this error - "An unknown error occurred while discovering dynamically -related files".... Please help
I´m using Dreamweaver CS5 with the today release of Wordpress 3 and does not work. Works perfect for Wordpress 2.9.2 but not for Wordpress 3 ¿Do you have any advice about that?
@Samb0123 Sorry for the delay. I'm still having the issue. right now I'm lookin for a solution if a found it I'll let you know. Do you have find anything?
Good tutorial, mate - I fell over on the define server thing as well. Didn't appreciate the xampp folder, hadn't realised I needed to specify the site folder.
Great tut, followed all the steps but still getting that buggy "unknown error while discovering dynamically-related files". Using newest version of MAMP. Thank you for the detailed information!
Thanks for the video, however : I'm trying to work with an existing Wordpress site (and XAMPP), have everything setup/specified just like you have in the video (except XAMPP doesn't use the :8888, and I imported Wordpress database with myphpadmin), and I'm still getting "Dynamically-related files could not be resolved because the site definition is not correct for this server". I can go to localhost URL, and see that Wordpress is installed correctly. Any suggestions??
@10milesfromnowhere I don't know XAMPP but im sure you have gathered if xamp doesn't use :8888 port don't put in the URL maybe try WAMP wich is ths window equivalent to MAMP or LAMP if your using linux these save databases so you never have to re import them when you open them. At the roadshow they did use MAMP for their example. or try another CMS with XAMPP and come back to wordpress.
I have the same problem as 10milesfromnowhere but I'm using Wamp. It works perfectly if I set up a local FTP server and use the according DWCS5 site settings, but doesn't if I use the local/network option as shown in your video, so it's probably a bug with DWCS5 for windows.
Sorry about the message being here 3 times, publishing problems!

This is great, but how do you set this up if you want a remote server for a website? It's not working it can't find the dynamically related files.

For WAMP or XAMP users:

Works a treat.
