  • For the money you spend but it will leave you begging for a bigger stall. I'd say do it only if you do the work yourself. It wouldn't be worth paying someone to do. Good roll on power but a terd off the line. With a tune look to gain20-25 hp.

  • I have this same cam in the exact same kind of truck. 2001 RCSB Z71. The last 4 digits of the part# are 5508. Yes you will need to use springs but z06 springs are cheap. My truck also has Pacesetter long tubes, k&n cold air, Jantzer ported polished TB, 05 Silverado efans, Nelson performance 93 octane tune. My truck ran similar to this truck. Butt dyno says you lose some low end torque and gain high end hp. From a 60 roll, I put 2 truck lengths on a 2010 titan and held it to 120+ . It's an ok cam

Figured its a cheap way to add decent power for cheap.Did u have ur computer re-mapped or dyno-tuned after u cammed it or leave everything stock?

  • wow this is exactly what i'm looking into doing, i have same truck w/ 85xxx miles, people have told me to wait till i hit the 100k mark and just go to a 6.0.. do you think i'll be fine doing the swap as is or wait it out? and where did you find the cam? do you have to change the springs and rockers?

  • @EFFU99 a 6.0 would b great if they didnt cost an arm and a leg. At least around here i could cam my 5.3 an have everything freshened up for the cost of a junkyard 6.0, which is a scary thought!

  • wow that is alow for a 5.3 my single cab 02 witha 4.3l v6 automatic k&n intake flomaster single 40 throttlebody spacer with a jet chips programmer runs a 14.9 @ 97mph you might need a better tune

  • Its all about the total set up:

    Small V8 engine setups love to rev, and they make lots of power up top (4000-6500 RPM) but not as much low end torque. When your engine is out of the 'power band' in the lower RPM, it boggs a bit(or when u change gear).

    Your final drive gear ratio is bogging this engine to rev quicker. Get a set of 3.73's or 4.11's and it will make a huge difference by allowing the engine to rev quicker to keep it in the power band, and also complementing the engines LS6 cam.

    i've got a nbs silverado with a v6 ... bone stock it runs 11.14 in the 8th and with bolt on treatment and tune it won't break into the 9s. a 15.3 in the 1/4 is about a mid 9s 1/8 run. must have a nice v6 ... or full of shit.

  • i know all this because its my truck and i knew it inside and out. truck on its best day with gears and stall would have easily been below a 14.5 which isnt bad for a cam tune 5.3 in a full size four wheel drive. this truck would stay side by side with SRT-4 neons and cobalt SS from a 30 roll.

  • just to clear up a couple things here...this truck ran a 15.2 with an awful head wind at the track that day. two-the 4l60E held up just fine in this truck although i know they are not made to handle all that much power. 3-it was a true Z71 but in 99-02 they didnt have a locking rear end in them...that started in 03 and up. 4- a stall and gears could have made this truck a half to full second quicker because the ls6 cam even in a light truck was a bit laggy dwn low an woke up at 3500!

  • @liftedchevy13 any of those cams will work... However for GM to bump up the power a bit for the 02-04 z06s they put a little big larger cam into those ls6's. I would recommend the 02-04 cam.

  • I have a 2002 ls 2wd silverado 5.3 with k&n filter flowmaster 40 series and msd Plug wires, and i run a 15.5 at 89 MPH. i thought a cam and tune would help a hell of alot more than that

  • @02Silvysfast Depends on what cam you put in. LS6 cams actually produce less power than the stock cam in a 5.3 below 3900 RPM but about 40 more HP at 6000RPM. If your lookin for a better all through look at an LS1 hot cam. Produces less all around but only slightly and is much better through the whole RPM band.

  • I have a 03 6.0 crew cab 2500 hd with just a tune and an exahust i pushed 290hp to the tires but i ran 15.4@ 90mph 60ft 1.98 and thats a 6000lb truck with a 50shot of noz i turned 14.6 but your truck sould do bettter with a good tune

  • i have L33 5.3 The head numbers are 12564825 which are the LS2 and Z06 heads and the camshaft is 12583623.

  • If you dont mind me asking why did you go with this cam? There is very minimal power gains from it. You should have gone with a 22x/224

    Well I know this is a good FI cam there is one truck that I know of on pt.net that pulls very hard with this cam and a 76mm turbo I want to say. But If this guy is going all motor this cam will not give you the power that you would achieve with a 22x/22x cam. Idk about 40hp out of a z06 cam either...

  • @hispanic88 granted...i guess minimal gains is a matter of perspective..but i have a book on Gen III LS motors and i saw the dyno numbers...they did a study using a stock 5.3 and that cam gave it around 40 crank hp.

  • You are dumb. IFS makes GM trucks shitty? Try IFS makes for good ride quality AND better traction off road if you have a 4x4 model. Sold front axles are tougher than IFS but get less traction and the ride quality isnt as good as IFS.

My 06 GMC with a Preditor programer, K&N CIA, Pacesetter shortys, stock y-pipe and Flomaster muffler ran 14.72 at THunder valley in Ok @1100 ft of elivation. The same truck at 4200 ft only runs 15.70s in El Paso Tx. Don't talk shit unless you know all the facts.

  • I have a Silverado 5.3L with a supercharger kit that will CHEW that lightning right off the road. My best friend has a lightning and he HATES me. He's NEVER beat me. He's tried smaller pullies and K&N filters, changing his exhaust...So there. What does that have to do with a guy tinking around having fun swapping cams with a LS6? I think its great! I have a Chevy Astro van that has a 327 with a nasty 4-barrel that I call the ASTROid, almost as fast! Keep havin' FUN!

    Actually my 2wd 2004 LS reg cab 5.3L short wheel base, 119.0 shortest wb you can get only weighs 4142lbs..

    4828lbs is the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ext. cab long bed

    4866lbs is the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 crew cab

    Doesn't say what options for those etc.. I did look this up as 04 models though.

    Denton3737 is damn close LOL @ 6200lbs.
