The reason why it is not publicized who received loans from the Federal Reserve is because a bank that goes to the discount window for liquidity was not able to raise capital in other markets, so obviously that bank is in a bit of trouble. In a system that is based on confidence, if people were to know that the bank went to the last possible lender that they could, then there would possibly be a run on the bank.

Part of the Federal Reserve act states that it is a LENDER OF LAST RESORT. The reason why it is not publicized who received loans from the Federal Reserve is because a bank that goes to the discount window for liquidity was not able to raise capital in other markets, so obviously that bank is in a bit of trouble. In a system that is based on confidence, if people were to know that the bank went to the last possible lender that they could, then there would possibly be a run on the bank.

If China even starts to sell 10% of its T-bills, the yield on US government debt will skyrocket. That means interest rates way, way up. Add in a little rowdy inflation and the US could see prime go to 12%.

The Fed lends money through the discount window, this is a normal every day operation at the Fed. Grayson is an idiot. It would be like asking your local community banker the names of all the people he's made a loan for. Banking is confidential for a reason.
That being said, I personally don't believe we should have a Fed or any Fed open market operations. Manipulation of interest rates create the business cycle and mal investment

That was our money they lent out without our permission to people and for reasons they won't tell us. Normal maybe, but acceptable? No way in Hell. The FED is nothing like a local bank. They are not loaning funds out of customer deposits in reasonable amounts. Grayson is doing his job by asking questions. Of course if something is done secretly it is for a reason. So what? The question is what is that reason if not to hide wrong doing? What the Hell is the matter with you?

I agree with you about the Federal Reserve, but this congressman is acting like the fed just started lending money when the crisis started, they've been doing this since open market operations started in the thirties. The congressman doesn't know what he's talking about. He should study the Fed so he doesn't look like an ass.Considering Congress has the power to abolish the Fed the only person this idiot can blame is himself. Bernanke is just doing his job

It's the simple questions that seem to be the ones that can't be answered. And with the economy's present state and the dollar losing value, Americans are in no mood to listen to people like you. I don't agree with the Federal Reserve System, it should be abolished, I don't even agree with fractional reserve banking, but it is the system that wehave had for 100's of years This is not tax payer money, these are loans to banks that are highly collateralized by member banks of the Federal Reserve. If you don't like the system, come up with a better one, and put people in office that are willing to change it. It is clear by your comments that you have no idea what the Fed is or does.

I'm sorry did you just land on earth or something. An earthling by the name of Hank Paulson started a game of government bailouts using taxpayer money that have infuriated the masses. The situation is such that no one can do anything about it. It is rumored any elected officials are soon victim to corporate payoffs and capitulation to the point that we have taxation without representation. Federal Reserve System is a form of slavery in that debt is created from money backed by nothing.

Dude I'm with you on the bailouts, but this two trillion in loans is not part of any bailout, it's part of open market operations that the Federal Reserve has been doing for a long time. It could be argued that the Fed's collateral requirements to Federal Reserve Member banks have changed, but that was something congress did. Again, these are LOANS to banks, its called the discount window. Do some reading on the Fed the treasury and monetary policy before you come at me with your idiocy.

It doesn't matter. It is our money and they are stealing it from us. Refusing to answer where it went just confirms that. Questioning where it went is appropriate and gives them the chance to give us some reason to think it isn't in our face thievery. These people out of control and need to be stop. Your point that the money was loaned and is normal for the FED is completely irrelevent. Normal does not make it legal, nor does it being a loan opposed to part of a bailout.

That being said I do want the fed to be audited at the very least and they need to bring back M3 reporting

You keep saying that the FED has been been doing this for a long time. Yeah, that makes it worse. What is your point. You ask, "Why bring it up now?" Well, I think because they are robbing us now. Are you suggesting we should allow them to continue robbing us since they have been doing it so long? It is not inappropriate to demand Constitutional Law be observed for the reason it has been getting ignored for many years already if that is what you are implying with your questions.

I agree, we should follow the constitution and only congress should be able to coin money and our money should be backed by gold or silver. The congressman is making these loans out to be part of some bailout package though, all I'm pointing out is that it's not, its part of normal open market operations at the Fed, which have always been confidential for a good reason. All banking is confidential, it should be. If we followed the constitution we would not have all these problems
