Virtually all the Japanese that were interned had done absolutly nothing wrong except be born with Japanese ancestry. Internment was catastrophic the the victims quality of life as thier property was seized and homes removed. Many families went from owning a home, to sharing a trailor with multiple families. Ultimately, internment had no strategic value of any kind since battles never took place in the U.S. Every Japanese interned was a victim. Every one.

For you Filipinos out there, the Japs that invaded your country aren't the same as the Americans of Japanese ancestry, many of whom fought for the U.S. in the armed service during WWII.
The largest ethnic group is German and most people of German decent were past 3rd generation and we needed German Americans. Some of the first generation Germans were actually interned though. Italians were never a threat at all during the war so there was no reason to intern them. Also the Germans or Italians didn't attack Pearl Harbor. The Japanese did.
You better not say they should intern Italian people. The Italians will fight back. The Japs and Krauts are pretty docile people. If Malkin said this about Italian people, they'd find her head in a washing machine somewhere.
A little bit of history. During the cold war people from communist countries like Russia, Poland and Cuba could not get security clearance in certain military areas. One guy I knew was 2nd generation Polish and was not allowed to transfer to another post since his ethnic background was of a current communist country even though he never lived in Poland. However again safety first. Protective measures were important at that time as well as they should be now.

How does the Japanese goverment's actions thousands of miles away justify the internment of AMERICAN citizens that have no proven connection to these events what so ever? During WW2 we were on the razor's edge of losing. We weren't really winning until 1944. People today don't realize that we could have lost this war. They think that America was winning from the start when the truth was we were not. We could not take any chances with the Japanese having a spy or such. Many first generation German Americans were actual spies.

Some people would see my words as viable logic to backup the increased intrusiveness of our government into our personal lives. But i disagree. Virtually all the Japanese that were interned had done absolutly nothing wrong except be born with Japanese ancestry. Internment was catastrophic the the victims quality of life as thier property was seized and homes removed. Many families went from owning a home, to sharing a trailor with multiple families. Ultimately, internment had no strategic value of any kind since battles never took place in the U.S. Every Japanese interned was a victim. Every one.

Sadly it is possible that Social Justice for all individuals and Safety for our entire nation are not compatible. Given these two choices I think that we should not give into fear. If internment was justifiable based on the fact that the land of their ancestry was an enemy nation to the U.S. then they should've imprisoned General Eisenhower who was of German ancestry and Frank Sinatra who was Italian. I'm Italian and a loyal American, so I'm personally offended by Malkin's views.
For you Filipinos out there, the Japs that invaded your country aren't the same as the Americans of Japanese ancestry, many of whom fought for the U.S. in the armed service during WWII.

The largest ethnic group is German and most people of German decent were past 3rd generation and we needed German Americans. Some of the first generation Germans were actually interned though. Italians were never a threat at all during the war so there was no reason to intern them. Also the Germans or Italians didn't attack Pearl Harbor. The Japanese did.

A little bit of history. During the cold war people from communist countries like Russia, Poland and Cuba could not get security clearance in certain military areas. One guy I knew was 2nd generation Polish and was not allowed to transfer to another post since his ethnic background was of a current communist country even though he never lived in Poland. However again safety first. Protective measures were important at that time as well as they should be now.

I agree many Germans at least 1st and second generation should have been interned as well. Actually some Germans and Italians were.
During WW2 we were on the razor's edge of losing. We weren't really winning until 1944. People today don't realize that we could have lost this war. They think that America was winning from the start when the truth was we were not. We could not take any chances with the Japanese having a spy or such. Many first generation German Americans were actual spies.

I don't know; try reading it yourself before you call it drivel. I haven't read it either, and I'm not exactly a fan of her. I took a look at one of her books and found it not terrible, but not sufficiently polished. I might check out her other two books (this one and the one before it). I'll have to read [this book] and then decide if the arguments are strong and if they are put forth well as far as style.

She hasn't really thought this through. There ARE Islamic terrorist groups in the Philippines. Islam in the Philippines predates Spanish colonialism. By her rationale, she should be profiled, and interned as well. She not only looks like em, but is the SAME ethnicity. And belongs to an ethnicity closely related to countries with SIZABLE muslim populations like Malaysia and Indonesia.

She should be able to express her opinion with regard to the "internment" of ethnic Japanese citizens during WWII. She is arguing for the sake of ethnic profiling during times of distress with relevance now in Muslims and a scenario that would include total war.
This option is one to be debated, for all reasons both pros and cons. Then after debate the information portrayed should help accurately depict the validity of her arguments. Like it or not, the US already is doing this in Guantanamo.
