It's funny that people use the mayan calendar ending as a reference. What are they supposed to do, keep going with the calendar for millions of years...they got to 2012 and said ok we're done I got better shit to do than work on this damn calendar...
Nice to see a rational and intelligent presentation as to why Dec. 21, 2012 is as insignificant as any other day in the past, present, or future. The end of the Mayan calendar is just that, the end of the Mayan calendar, nothing more.
People have been "predicting" doomsday as long as humans have been sentient, and it stems from (among other things) the simple fact that people fear dying alone, and they'd rather die in some world ending cataclysmic event. After all, misery loves company :)
