  • The truth is....the old version of Just for and the new one are exactly the same cept for 2 things:

    1. The recording. Chad's voice sounds more rough on the older one.

    2. The bridge. Listen closely. The bridge on the new and old one have slight differences.

  • The begin of one of the best bands of the wide world!

    Nickelback!

  • One of my favourite bands ever, but how they ever managed to get famous from this is insane, Kroeger is so out of key, it isnt even funny!

  • Curb had some great songs on it, but even with the budget they used, the production is shit. In 2006 at the Dallas show they did an instrumental medley of Curb, for its 10th anniversary, and Chad said something to the effect of it costing them roughly $2,000-3,000. Almost 15 years later I've seen bands pop out twice as good or better production for sometimes half that. Guess it must be the technological advances.

  • I wish the "fans" knew more of their older stuff. I love every song and every album.... personally I like the older stuff a little bit more but like said earlier, bands change in 14 years. (still wish theyd play songs like this now!)

  • @LuigiEX22 oh you are SOOO totally right! :)

  • Love Love Love this video!! Thank you for sharing!!!

  • I like how Peake is playing a Hollow-body guitar on this vid.

  • Curbs version of Just Four is much better then Silver Side up version.

  • how many were there that night?

  • Wow ... 13 years can do alot to a band. haha.

  • i think the curb versions is much better

  • Peake looks so young?!

  • his is called Just For, not Just Four =]

  • lol...this version is called Just Four...the version on Silver Side Up (came out in 2001) is called Just For...they are the same versions only Just Four has got the `rough edges` of Kroegers voice.

  • @bart1301 but its the same song though.. Hmmmm

  • @GaryKnuckles

U are absolutely right :) And I have no idea why this one is called Just Four %)

  • Okay man :) I thought alright that if it had been called "Just Four" then the lyrics wouldn't have made sense hah! Anyway, I love Nickelback and that's the main thing =] Peace

  • @bart1301

this the better version though , hard to find the original version these days though

  • boy have they come a looooooooooooong way

  • nice vid,lol

  • lmfao mike was wearing a condom hat like 12 years before they came into fashion, so give it 12 years and his cowboy hat will be worn by the worlds teenagers...

  • Comment removed

  • Great clip! Thanks! LOL @ Mike's hat!!

It cracks me up how people don't like how the band has matured and changed in 12 years. I'm sure we've all changed a lot in 12 years. Hey, the soccermoms listening today were the hotties screaming back then.

Plus, there are just as many critics who complain their songs all sound the same! Anyway, 30 million Nickelback fans are happy with the way they sound, and I'd pay to see them play Jingle Bells if they want.

  • For some reason, I like the songs from Curb much better over the other, later released songs. Dunno why....Curb is also my favourite single :P

  • isant there a rerecorded version in silver side up

  • Yep...that version is called Just For

  • no the two versions are the same thing but there just a tiny bit defferent

  • This must be embarrassing for them to look back on lol. But it shows that as long as you have the drive and persistence you can make it in music.

  • gotta say they have DEF improved over the years. but this is my favorite song and well this is the only live version on youtube. WHY????

  • i no right!!!!! its soooo fricken annoying!!!!!!!

  • @jc4duke i think that since the release of the state they dont play this song live anymore.

  • WOW, they look so young, lol probably because they were :P...but yeah musta been what 20? quite incredible to see how far you have to go from this to where they are today!

  • penguin......i,,,,,thnk that u r so tottally......fuckn retarted dude i meen really nickelback has been compared to some of the best bands ever so shut ur mouth and go wck off to gay stuff or sumthng

  • I remember seeing Nickelback in concert at Rockfest when Chad still looked like this, it had to have been in 1999 or early 2000.

  • penguin you really gotta quit smoking that carpet fluff buddy ... what band doesnt sing about sex and break ups ?

  • nickelback rox !!... but the quality of this movie is not very good :P

  • Curb was definately not weak, it's awesome to listen to this day. Songs like Little Friend, I Don't Have, Detangler, Where, Falls Back On, and Just Four are just a few to name. Even Hesher was awesome to listen to. I agree his voice isn't what it came to be, but it's still pretty phenominal.

  • Could someone please answer a question?

Why is this song "Just Four" on The Curb, but "Just For" on Silver Side Up?

    It's the same song.

  • they wanted ta clean it up and re-release it

  • I am hit by their songs (tune, beat, lyrics, Kroegers voice). Love them ALL.

A scientific research should be initiated to find out why NBs music has so strong influence on many people. Differences in fisiognomy of brains?? Magic?

  • Actually it's just because they sing about things that a majority of people have to go through, put tons of "emotion" in them, then make corny music videos out of them. Then they also make generic and loud rock songs so metal heads and hard rock fans will like them too!

  • and the reason is they wanted to make their music more relateable.

  • I went to MANY nickelback "bar" shows in 1994 - 1995" in Vancouver/Burnaby area. This one show in particular was at Studabakers lounge in burnaby, bc and I bought a cassette of their demo... took it home to Nova scotia and told my friends that if these guys ever get big.. the are going to be BIG! Sure enough...

They certainly put their dues in and are NOT a "made for radio" band.. lol

  • people who dont like their new stuff are people who dont listen to full albums.

side of a bullet, just to get high, follow you home, throw yourself away and many others would fit nicely on the state.

curb except for a few songs was quite weak, vocally. chad's voice has imporved alot since.

  • There first album is excellent! Their second is ok, their 3rd was a lot like their second but with a HIT SINGLE! After that they just kept trying to repeat their fame and eventually became the hugest sellout ever! They are AWFUL NOW! A mix between commercial radio rock and country!

  • curb was'nt excellent. it had a few really good songs but ythe rest was meh. the state was far superior and silver sid eup was even better.

sure they changed, what band doesn,t but their big songs such as "someday" and "savin me" were signs of their growth and they showed that chad was getting better as song writer. just because "the state" was more cryptical and less famous doesnt mean its better.

  • Their third cd wasn't horrible, it somewhat showed signs of them maturing musically, but after they hit it big with "How You Remind Me" their following cds were all trash. The Long Road was full of catchy pop rock tunes made for the radio, and loud heavy fast rockers with immature and sexist lyrics, the same can be said for Dark Horse. Please don't give me the "but that's what rock stars are SUPPOSED to sing about!" crap! All the Right Reasons was ALL catchy pop rock tunes, made for radio.

  • I think yur problem is tat yur not open minded.i agree the sexist lyrics in sum of their songs is not sumthing i like but "Side Of A Bullet" & "Follow You Home" arent "pop rock tunes" nor is "Just To Get High","Throw Your Self Away","Flat On The Floor","Learn The Hard Way" etc

so wat if they hav softer material,"Fly" was catchy & soft.

gun n roses, mettalica etc all hav their softer more melodic songs. as long as those songs have sumthing meaningful 2 say.who cares if they soft or heavy.

  • Ok, I don't really like ANY of their lyrics. Also, they have been adding a country sound more and more to their songs. The thing is, they just cater to the audience, you've got nice little singles like Photograph and Savin' Me for soccer moms, and songs like Something In Your Mouth and Rockstar for pimply 16 year old idiots! I will say that I find Gotta Be Somebody pretty good though. Although the music video is gay.

  • i think photograph is great although very breezy, a strong song. and i must disagree "savin' me" is an awesome song. it has a great guitar riff at the start and some quite dark lyrics.

i mean i aint tryinhg to change yur mind, your entitled to your opinion. but I think dismissing all their recent material is slightly harsh.

and i agree Gotta Be soembody is great.

  • I agree thenickelbackfan0. Me, i could listen to all 6 albums from start to finish and enjoy every second!

  • sell-out my ass! They just got the fame hey deserve!

  • Right, then how come all of their albums after silver side up were filled with songs about nothing but break ups, partying like rockstars and sex? They compromised musical growth for fame and money!

  • not really............they still rock..

  • evidently you're not a TRUE fan bud..

  • They have been writing about partying, sex, drugs and drinking since day 1... Nothing has really changed. Listen deeper to their lyrics and by the way most of the lyrics are chads life.

  • nblove4life im srry to say but ur wrong they write about thngs that are true to life and that meen thngs.....,.if everyone care for example is about gettng everyone to love and not hate unlike u who obvioslly are not a fan of them but u need to shut ur damn mouth ad listen to ur own kinda music and leave ours alone

  • Crikey he's channeling Eddie Vedder!

  • eddie vadder doesnt have shit on nickelback singer lol

  • don't care for the new stuff, but curb and the state were good they played at my house back in '97 unbeliveable where they have gone even if u don't like them.have some good stories from that night, like chad walking into our glass sliding door.

  • Before they started sucking ass

  • Finally I have been looking on You tube for years looking for early Nickleback. Great Stuff to see part of their career. Grew up in Hanna myself listened to Nickel back when they where covering ACDC at the Nash. had the same pot dealer dad work for Ryan Peakes dad and got a ride in a wagon from Ryan Peakes dog. Big fan home grown but still curse them for all songs except the first two cd's "curb" and "the state" that was true nickel life. fuck your pop stance now

  • You didn't like Silver Side Up?

  • chad, my love, you looked weird at that time :)

  • lol chad look SOOOOO strange on this video i just started lisening to this band 1 year ago and i am used to se him at another way

  • awesome vid but its from silver side not curb, though im guessing they wrote it long b4 that album...

  • It was first done on Curb as "Just Four", then again on Silver Side Up as "Just For"...I believe.

  • yep you're right!

  • i love nickelback, but they looked liked dorks

  • o my god, thank god chad cut his hair

  • At the time Kroeger cut his hair, Nickelback started getting lame.

  • i am so glad chad has short hair now!

  • OMG....it´s awesome....

Chad looks so old and Ryan so young....

I love it...I love Nickelback so much!!!

  • i like Chad better with short hair =D

  • Where did you get this? I would love to see more!!!!!!!

    Im a huge fan!!

  • I downloaded this from a Napster-like softwareprogram called WinMx..but that went off the air unforntunatly. Check my account for other videos, from this gig, of `little friend`, `falls back on` and `windowshopper`.

  • OMG! WTF!

Wow Chad and the whole band was way different, i like them so much better now!

  • Chad's hair!!*lol*

    Great! Great! Great!

  • Chad's voice is way different during Curb. Does anyone know why?

  • No I don't maybe he was drinking! (just kidding, he's awesome!) probably because he was just getting started!

  • as you can tell Curb is very Nirvana influenced so Chad tried to sound like Kurt Cobain. I love this album!

  • because the got older and his voice got better

  • This is my favorite song by Nickelback, I wish they still played it in concert.

  • I could have swore this song was called "Yes I Do" but I haven't listened to the CD in a while, so I could be wrong

  • This first take is called `Just Four` and was released on the album Curb (around 1996). They re-recorded the song again and released that version 2 albums later on Silver Side Up (2001) as `Just For`.

  • nickelback is the best.

  • chads voice is unbeliveable !!

nickelback is the best band 4 ever !!

  • sorry bout my last comment... my brother who is a big fan just told me it was re-released on Silver Side Up.... GREAT VIDEO!

  • awesome vid!! cept its off of the Silver Side Up Album... but other than that GREAT!!!

  • well youre right

but that ones called Jus For they changed and re-relased it

Early version was called Just Four on Curb at Abbotsford Commodore album =]

  • ryan doesn't sing

  • hey, what exactly is Ryan doing when he turns around and reaches for something on the floor??

  • probably fiddling about with the amp, cranking up the volume.

  • Oh okay, thanks!

  • Awesome find....love the older Nickeback Videos :-)
