Targeting a container ship, I'm stumped as to why the Harpoon would need the capability to make a "turn on a dime" maneuver...As long as the launch starts at the correct angle, the corrections to course should be minute. Even judging by the video, one can easily ascertain that accuracy isn't the issue. You're wrong about Western interests as well.
I'm sure the radar and computer can compute how much lead to give the missile before launch via doppler shift so that it will impact the target with some kind of accuracy! I doubt large ships could evade the missile if it indeed has this. Are you saying that the target will detect the missile and try to dodge it?or compute when to deploy a counter missile or buck shot blast?
The US and UK coalition forces are currently rebuilding the Iraqi Navy... Why would we want to sink an 800 man Navy that we are building? One thing you're spot on about is that yes; the Harpoon has practical application to piracy removal/prevention. Removing transport vehicles identified as pirate can be targeted from a considerable distance; It could prove helpful from the shores of Eastern Africa.

The very same geometry which allows them to avoid radar detection is the handicap which prevents their own radars from making meaningful course corrections and maneuvers in time.

Targeting a container ship, I'm stumped as to why the Harpoon would need the capability to make a "turn on a dime" maneuver...As long as the launch starts at the correct angle, the corrections to course should be minute. Even judging by the video, one can easily ascertain that accuracy isn't the issue. You're wrong about Western interests as well.

I'm sure the radar and computer can compute how much lead to give the missile before launch via doppler shift so that it will impact the target with some kind of accuracy! I doubt large ships could evade the missile if it indeed has this. Are you saying that the target will detect the missile and try to dodge it?or compute when to deploy a counter missile or buck shot blast?

The US and UK coalition forces are currently rebuilding the Iraqi Navy... Why would we want to sink an 800 man Navy that we are building? One thing you're spot on about is that yes; the Harpoon has practical application to piracy removal/prevention. Removing transport vehicles identified as pirate can be targeted from a considerable distance; It could prove helpful from the shores of Eastern Africa.
