How does it feel like a 1911? Just because it has a grip safety? The grip angle is different on a 1911 and its a lot heavier. The grip on the xd is bigger than a 1911 with standard grips.
Good video. I'm in the market for my first gun and i was leaning towards the glock 27. I shortly realized that i should have a gun with a little bit more of a safety to it, than glocks. So i looked at the XDs, and i like the way they feel. Im more of a small frame guy but have slightly larger than normal hands and the backstrap just fits great. Is this a realistic gun for "first time buyer" or should i be looking at something else? i like the new XDM 3.8" and 4.5".
@one54cm Do you think this would make a good first gun? Buying my first gun soon and I really like the safety features and gun itself. Also I'm torn between the XD 9mm or XD .40 versions of this subcompact, any thoughts?
It would be a great first gun. Go for the 9mm as your first gun. .40 is a bit snappy hand harder to control in the subcompact platform. Just my opinion.
So the safety turns on and off as you grip it, and the holster covers the trigger pretty well so I wont need to worry about it going off in my waistband or jacket, looks like a winner to me. I will be 21 next summer and I am looking for a good self defense handgun, would you reccomend the 4" or 5" model for concealed carry? I just feel that 3" is a little small for my first gun.
Being someone who has carried for some time now, I can tell you smaller is better. Everyone wants a big gun at first, but once you have to carry it around for long periods and have discomfort because of the size and weight, you may just start lo leave the gun at home or in your car. If it's compact and comfortable, you'll always carry it. What is better the full sized gun in your car or the subcompact that is on your person?
@one54cm Good point, that is why I will probably never buy body armor. I spoke to a friend who owns the 4" model after I wrote that and he said the 4" is easily concealed even though I am about 8" taller than him. It just can't be worn on an ankle holster. He also said it is more accurate than the 3" so it is a good compromise. When I am ready to buy I will ask the gun store owner if I can try concealing all 3 just to be sure, thanks for the advice, you have a new subscriber :)
Great review, I cant wait to see more of your videos.
So the grip safety is a drop safety to prevent the gun from firering if you dont press it while pulling the trigger?
The only problem I have with that its that its one extra thing that can fail make the gun useless.Do you press that lever anytime you hold the gun or is it possible that if you grab the gun in a hurry without a perfect grip it wont fire because of that safety?
No, your hand would have to touch the back strap. Even if you gripped it low or high, you would still disengage the grip safety. It's funny, I never hear anyone say anything bad about the 1911 grip safety. It's proven and not just short term, it's worked for 99 years.
I JUST BOUGHT THE 9 MM 4 INCH BARREL. AND AT 30 FEET I KEPT A NICE TIGHT GROUPING. I AM VERY HAPPY WITH MY PURCHASE. I RAN 200 HUNDRED OF THE CHEAPEST SHIT I COULD FIND " FEDERAL 9 MM 115 GRAIN. " AND I DIDNT HAVE ANY ISSUES. EASY TO KEEP ON TARGET. I ALMOST GOT A GLOCK BUT WHEN I TRIED THE SUB COMPACT OUT I LIKED IT BUT FELT IT WAS A BIT SHORT. WHEN I TRIED THE 4 INCH I WAS REALLY SURPRISED. AND FOR 498 USD WALKING I FEEL I GOT A GOOD DEAL.
Damn dude this is the best review I've seen so far. And even more so because there was no Glock slamming (I hate when ppl start slamming one over the other).
You should definitely visit us in Croatia. Only negative thing is that you may also get to see why the XD was made and why it must be as good as it is
Jerry, This is definitely one of the best firearms reviews I have ever seen on youtube. Excellent information, concise and to the point. The production quality is excellent as well. Keep up the awesome work. You've got a subscriber in me!
And, awesome pistol. I was a Glock guy but work at a gun store that sells the XD's and I am quickly becoming a fan. Will probably be picking one up soon.
Great Review. I am a first time Gun buyer. Within my price range, i am choosing between the XD-9 and a Beretta PX-4. Which would you recommend for a first time gun buyer. The XD-9 is $417 w/ an extra clip, holdster, and box, etc. Again, great review!!
im not gonna lie. die hard glock guy here but you and pete over at the armory channel got me givin xd a second look. i think id have a little more piece of mind with the grip saftey on the xd.. lovin it. i also like the new xdm 3.8. but that sub compact may be just what i need
Jerry, top notch review. I heard a rumor that 1911 and Glock had some sort of affair.
Glad to see someone that's not so hung up on one or the other. I have the same XD (all black though) and a Glock as well. I love both guns. For me personally, there are aspects I like better about the XD and aspects I like better about the Glock. I have put both guns on the same shelf in the gun safe at night hoping for an offspring...hasn't happened yet. 5*
I just love handguns. Just about every company makes something that I like and want. I have had the XD on my "want list" for some time now. It's all just a matter of getting the cash and getting my hands on a Glock 17.
@one54cm exactly. Ive started to not put so much time into the vids, its fun with the outcome. But the time involoved for even simple vids has taken a little of fun out of it. So now I do a little of both. Keep it up.
Speaking of sub-compact 9's, is the PF9 still running good? I'm looking into one and you have a great review of it. I'm just wondered if there was a reason behind the switch of sub compact 9mm carry guns?
Great review, keep up the great work.
