Same problem on my new iMac. Not as severe... it needs about 10 seconds of silence for it to pop... taking it to the Genius Bar over the Christmas break :(
No computer is perfect its up to personal preference I grew up with PCs so I liked them more but then I got a mac and loved it, I love both mac and PC.
@sdschramm Well, it's just an ultra beutiful screen, my laptop's screen isn't as great (but besides the awful viewing angles, it's not too bad), ooooh and that wallpaper, is really awesome! i had no idea you took it! can you send it to me? if you can't or don't want to, it's ok. thanks! oh and by the way, how's that macbook going? its been a year since you uploaded that video, is it still going strong? any problems?
It's because the computer sleeps the sound hardware to save energy. When it "wakes up" you will first hear a pop. You can download programs to just play silent sounds every 20 seconds to prevent the sound hardware from sleeping, but on the newer Apple notebooks I haven't noticed this problem.
I think I have the same problem on my 17" macbook pro (mid 2009). When I play a song or a video or any other kind of system sound, one moment before the sound start I can ear a POP (even if I set off the volume) and if I listen carefully, more or less 30 seconds after the sound's end I can ear another POP. Same thing withe headphones. I think it's a problem linked to the sound amplifier that is too powerful and it makes hearable the sound card's switch on/off. One day I'll bring it to fix.
The pop sound you are getting can be turned off in the system preferences page. Click on the SOUND icon and click the box marked Play feedback when volume is changed, you will not get the popping sound any more.
no, I don't mean that sound. The "quack" when adjusting the volume in fine. I was just that as an example of when it "turns on the speakers" It does it with any sound. Like I could go to youtube and before the video plays - POP!
Your MacBook Pro is just demonstrating the sound effects that you are selecting and if you click to many times on the trackpad, it can't catch up to your clicking on the trackpad so it loads and thats why you get continuous 'popping' or 'clicking' noises. If it still continues hit the apple logo and select force quit and you'll see if there is a program that isn't responding.
Uh, no. You don't understand the problem. It pops on the FIRST time a sound is played....playing the sound when the speakers are already active is fine. And nothing else is running.
You cant really notice it on this video, but I know what you are talking about. My new 17" does the same thing. I spent an hour on the phone to Apple about it today, they reckon it should not happen, and didnt seem to know anything about the issue...
Does that with my normal speakers.
