In my opinion, the best years were 85, 86 with Lotus, he could have one those champs if he had reliable car . Definitely would have challenged 87. He was a lot better driver than Piquet. Mclaren was a winning car then, so he made it look easy winning 3 champs in 6 years. Is hard to say how many he would have won...I have yet to see a driver like Ayrton in F1.
i loved it. when the commentator said the engineers didn`t want to change the engine based only on a driver`s hunch. but ron dennis knew ayrton so well and trusted him 100% andd told them to change the engine. the engineeers found that the camshaft was faulty. fabulous!!! nobody knew the car like ayrton. the way he felt the car is absolutely incredible. his commitment and passion are an example. what a complete driver
In 1993 he wasn't as motivated at times due to the superiority of the Williams where he felt he should have also been in that car and given an equal chance to win the championship based on his fact (and one I'd agree with in) that he the best driver out there. His performances though at some of those races that year were legendary and his occasional frustration is clear to see. Amazing man and driver...

i know the MP4/8 was an ok car compared to the 4,5 and 6 but i've always thought it looked the best of all ayrtons mclarens.
