  • anyone know how much to except engine swap on previa? my 93 just died...T.T

    can anyone help?

and I was wondering how the hell do you change out the engine?

do you have to drop the engine and lift the whole body?

  • i love the music! lol

  • I've never owned a Toyota Previa. I've always found them to be interesting vehicles. The position of the engine doesn't seem to make for very easy maintenance.

  • do previas have hydraulic valve lifters or what? I can't imagine adjusting the valves in that

  • the beast is revealed lol we just bought a new one cause the one we had before siezed up after 290000 miles and 8 years or daily use they do just keep going dont they :)

  • hi there i have a 1993 lucida. its front couppling is making loud noise when not moving. its fine when moving does anyone know how easy is it to change couppling iam a diy machanic and my hobby is to fix my own car

  • why did you fart at the end of the video

  • @MattEricV the 1970's music made him crap his pants

  • @2010mustang2 hahahahaha

  • When you have to check the fluids, do you have to do it all under the hood? What is under the hood?

  • @comgeek24 windshiled wiper antifreeze and brake fluid.. my family has one u.s. 92

  • @OsoTheo Oh, ok. Thank you.

  • What a piece of shit!

  • ooooo digging the music

  • Here in the UK we get Japanese import cars and you can get Previas with a I-4 diesel engine ( 2.2 liter ). They are great , not very fast but get over 40mpg.

  • but they are not called Previas to my knowledge, and are not as wide as the Previa. Atleast the ones I saw in UK.

  • No there are two types , The Lucida , which is the same size as the Previa ( and the same vehicle essentially ) and the Estima , which is the same except its a few inches shorter and narrower. Apparently this is for Japan where the vehicles are taxed according to their width and length , etc.

  • @tellyehmaak yeah theyre callld Lucida

  • @tellyehmaak

    they are called Estima

  • @TheLowey08 Think those were probably the Estima, slightly smaller version made for the Jap market. But alot are seen over here too

  • For the familyman who always wanted to have a sport car: mid engine, rear wheel drive... and seven seats! :-D

Love the concept of the old Previa.

  • nice sound

  • I bought a 2 year old Previa back in 1996. White GX Seven seat. Drove all over Europe in it never skipped a beat. Only ever put fuel in it. First service was free. Only sold it because it became a 3rd car for a Family with 2 drivers. Since then Spent a fortune on BMW X5 (had to go back due to faults) BMW E46 M3 (engine blew up at 3,000 miles) 2 CRAP VW T5 Transporters (1st one replaced, 2nd one worse than first) Louzy Mercedes S Class. Guess what I have now? A 2000 Model Previa GX Original MINT

  • previas have lifetime warrenty for toyota i think i heard that idk they ugly tho lol

  • Cambiarle las bujias es una friega!

  • Yeah I had to do this for my mum's (RHD) previa to clean/inspect the sparkplugs. I figured it wasn't always firing on all 4 cylinders so I had a look. Turned out to be a broken HT lead. These car struggle in the wet though because of the location of the sparkplugs. Love the car though.

  • That was the sound of vibrating pieces of soft tissue, aka lips :)

  • lol i thught it was a sloppy joe fart

  • That was the wastegate. xD

  • I got 2 previas. they last 4ever.

  • @ronzilla3000 yeah man the lifetime mileage on previa's is like 350k or something like that, and they can endure so much i mean mine has survived a lot of desert trips

  • Why is the comments section for Previa's always so amusing? Hehe

So in my case I have to remove the drivers side (righ hand drive) to change the sparkplugs?

  • I guess you remove the same side seat I did, they didn't mirror the engine just to fit your medieval ways of driving on the wrong side of the road :)

Btw, my white devil is for sale :/

  • So driving on the "correct" side of the road is medieval? LOL

And using imperial mesearements isn't? You Americans, sheesh, I dunno.

    [/humour]

  • Argh! I assumed you were American and probably just insulted you!

Apologies... Hey, since you've taken your Previa apart, any idea where the air conditioning Dryer is? (The little canister thing with the looking glass on the top)

    Cheers! :)

  • I'm Swedish :)

My Previa got no airconditioning. If you plan on keeping your Previa a little longer, maybe you should consider getting a repair manual, I had a Haynes or something, it was really nice, until I misplaced it :(

  • The air conditioner drier is at the front of the car. you should be able to see it if you peer into the slats, left side in front of the ac radiator.

  • Found it! Thanks!

  • @cant7think7clearly At least you didn't assume he was asinine Kiwi or he might really be pissed ;) ...........................@tellyehmaak go look on PDFoo(dot)com for Previa manuals in PDF. I founf the engine installation guide on there and a host of other Previa repair guides(including pages form the Haynes manual) for free

  • @cant7think7clearly I think they were located besides the condenser in front of the radiator?

  • Damn! if you were lucky you could get up to around 5 miles an hour!

  • replace that distributor O' ring

  • Is it me or is the engine actually underneath the passenger seat and not in the middle?

  • its in the middle.. it just looks that way from the angle. when i get under mine for maintenance it looks just like a regular inline 4 turned completely sideways haha.

  • its actually in the middle if you look under the van.

the video only shows the side of the engine.

  • is it just me or do previa's really have a distinctive sound?

  • Yes... The infamous whistle. Previas have been plagued with it for years. Even Toyota can't explain why they do it. It does not affect performance nor reliability. You can replace the exhaust and it will go away but eventuaslly it comes back. Many muffler shops have told me that they believe that the Previa's straight exhaust design could be the culprit. I actually like the sound. It looks and sounds like a spaceship.

  • @rtsoccerplayer seriously once i heard him turn the ignition it sounded exactly like my previa!

  • Yeah - I was gonna trade my old Previa in until I got curious and cracked that case - found a bad spark plug wire - and got saved from buying (uugh!) a Chevy Aveo.

  • are these a flat 4 boxer style engine?

  • Nah, just a straight 4. Looks like it's almost laying sideways though.

  • Just like the motor the Wright Brothers used in their first flyer!

  • It lays at a 75 degree angle if I remember correctly. Another reason why engine swaps are quite hard.

  • any enthusiasts sites for these?

seems like an interesting possible project..

  • I'll have to get back to you about that.

Just changed oil and filter and back to new platinum sparkplugs this weekend. Running like a clock at 100mph!

Glad I raised your eyebrows :J

  • how can u have a seat on it without the seat like 1 foot in the air

  • whats the bore and stroke of that thing

  • 95.0 x 86.0 mm (3.7 x 3.4 inches)

    9.3:1 ratio

  • that small engine moves that Previa? it's hard to believe but alas, it's so.

  • It's a 2.3 liter engine, you barely see the engine...

  • 2.4

  • indeed it is! how embarassing.

  • I hate working on these things, but I love to drive them! D:

  • is it really that small?

  • good luck on working on that motor.

  • Don't worry, you never need to ;)

  • ditto! it's an great motor

i give mine STP, MMO, Gumout, Prestone, Champion, it roars!

  • I'm a purist. Regular oil, regularly. That's it. Oh, and I only use 93 octane gas, so that keeps everything else clean. Once in a while I'll do a fuel injection cleaning (every 10,000 miles),but besides that...I've kept it simple and it's all good...

  • :) Well I know for an fact that my parents gave the Previa to me in HORRIBLE condition. Seriosuly. FRAM air and oil filters, cheapest Supertech oil, never changed or replaced transmission oil, fuel filter, wiper blades. They never did an CV boot change or even an tire rotation. My parents ALWAYS was "exxon 86 ocante"

    ....

Last time this preva didnt wanna start, it took 2mins of continuous starting.

Now it's got Mobil 1, SHELL, lots of cleaners, runs lots better now,

  • skönt ställe att ha den på :D
