@Ki2door There are real breeders out there that care about their dogs. A good breeder only has a few dogs and doesn't breed the more then a few times. You should go to the breeder's house when selecting a puppy, not the mall. Or the shelter is always good as well. The AKC homepage can give you good information on finding a breeder.

The very first sign that a dog is from a puppy mill is that it is designer or hybrid dog. All AKC or UKC reputable breeders only produce pure bred dogs. Cockapoos, Labradoodles, Shitz Poo, Morkies, Pugles are not recognized by any kennel club. Also reputable breeders do not breed multiple breed. They stick to only one breed. So if a person is reputable you will not see them breed German Shepherds as well as Golden Retriever.

Don`t buy puppeis from pet stors get them from puonds or if you must get them from breeders, go to the breeder`s house make sure the parents are living normal lives. When i got my dog the breeder had one litter, in fact the first breeder we went to couldn`t get her dog to breed so she sent us to a freind of hers, neither of them had more than ten adult dogs, and they were free around the house and back yard.
i know how to stop puppy mills. report it to obama. then go to as many pet stores as possible and ask them where the dogs come from. bring the cops to those mills and have them arrest the people. you then have to let all the dogs out of the cages and let them run away. vets will find the dogs and take care of them. then they will take them to shelters. then they will all be in homes.

When I went to a pet store (owned by the human society) i saw so many healthy dogs there. They were very healthy. But a while before that I went to apet store owned by someone else, all the puppies there were SICK! There eyess and noses were running, and there was vomit and diarehia all over the bottom of teir cages! I promised myself never to go back to that pet store. Ever.

It makes me so angry that this is done to animals. They do not deserve this kind of treatment. They are defenseless creatures that only deserve love and kindness, not this kind of torture. This is why I want to adopt a puppy mill rescue dog.
If you're going to get a dog, this is the absolute worst place to get one. They aren't socialized as puppies. I'm sure they're not doing health screening on the parents.
If you get a shelter dog, make sure you get one from a shelter that has socialized and trained the dog first, because behavioral problems are a major killer of dogs.

My mom is a rescuer of a small dog about 16 lbs. Rescued from an amish farm in PA. The progress is amazing, you can watch the progression of their health and well-being. Much rather have a puppy mill dog than a regular breed dog since you can see how they get attached to you. It's been 5 months and she acts like a normal dog. We have a Standard Poodle-not shaved lol, that acts as the Alpha Dog.
There is no excuse for the leaders of the USA to allow puppy mills to exist. They are cruel and inhumane. There is such an overpopulation of animals. People need to adopt and work with the dog. All dogs are trainable. Humans trainable???

You are wrong - unlike the other animals you mentioned (except for maybe pot-bellied pigs kept as pets), dogs are not considered livestock. I would love to see the minimum standards raised for the living conditions of livestock, but the requirements for pets and livestock will never be the same.
Puppy mill dogs are often treated worse than any livestock. I've seen undercover footage of puppymills where the dogs are kept in horrendous conditions.....

What kind of "breeder" tells you that you shouldn't take your dog to the vet? A real dog breeder will say take it to the vet within 24-48 for a check-up, even if the pup has been to the vet for vaccinations (pups should have their first round of vaccines while they are too young to be sold). Breeding dogs properly is not profitable! This is horrible!

People act this way because of the money. According to the law, dogs are little more than property. Greed can turn any heart hard. It's all about the money to puppy mill operators. All they care about is selling their "product" to pet stores. Dogs are treated like commodities to be sold...they are even inspected (well, weak enforcement and relaxed standards) by the USDA like they are just an animal product.
yeah exactly. and people should also actually go to the breeder. the breeder should let them see everything, they should not try to hide anything. they should ask the breeder a TON of questions. if a breeder gets annoyed by that then the might not be a good breeder. a breeder should not have too many breeding dogs nor too low prices. a good breeder should also show a great interest in you and their puppies future homes

Puppy mill dogs are on antibiotics from the time they are born and harbor disease from over crowding. Many people will find that these dogs become ill shortly after going off the antibiotics.
Buy from a purebred breeder. NOt pet shops and puppy mills.

And what about the dogs that aren't wanted. What happens to those? The pound, where lots will get euthanized. Dogs are known as man's best friend and they actually BOND with you. They are faithful. I dont mind if someone is running a kennel after all I RUN 1 but people are mistaken of thinking a kennel is a puppy mill and puppy mills take advantage of that so "BLUE RIBBON" KENNEL when it's actually a puppy mill
kennels walk there dogs,play with them,feed the QUALITY food,give medcare (yearly vaccination,worming..etc)
people must understand why TRUE kennels are overpriced
and "puppymill" kennel are not have 100-1000
kennels have a maximum of 35-50 dog depending on its size and workers

If you're going to get a dog, this is the absolute worst place to get one. They aren't socialized as puppies. I'm sure they're not doing health screening on the parents.
If you get a shelter dog, make sure you get one from a shelter that has socialized and trained the dog first, because behavioral problems are a major killer of dogs.

My mom is a rescuer of a small dog about 16 lbs. Rescued from an amish farm in PA. The progress is amazing, you can watch the progression of their health and well-being. Much rather have a puppy mill dog than a regular breed dog since you can see how they get attached to you. It's been 5 months and she acts like a normal dog. We have a Standard Poodle-not shaved lol, that acts as the Alpha Dog.

You are wrong - unlike the other animals you mentioned (except for maybe pot-bellied pigs kept as pets), dogs are not considered livestock. I would love to see the minimum standards raised for the living conditions of livestock, but the requirements for pets and livestock will never be the same.

What kind of "breeder" tells you that you shouldn't take your dog to the vet? A real dog breeder will say take it to the vet within 24-48 for a check-up, even if the pup has been to the vet for vaccinations (pups should have their first round of vaccines while they are too young to be sold). Breeding dogs properly is not profitable! This is horrible!

People act this way because of the money. According to the law, dogs are little more than property. Greed can turn any heart hard. It's all about the money to puppy mill operators. All they care about is selling their "product" to pet stores. Dogs are treated like commodities to be sold...they are even inspected (well, weak enforcement and relaxed standards) by the USDA like they are just an animal product.

yeah exactly. and people should also actually go to the breeder. the breeder should let them see everything, they should not try to hide anything. they should ask the breeder a TON of questions. if a breeder gets annoyed by that then the might not be a good breeder. a breeder should not have too many breeding dogs nor too low prices. a good breeder should also show a great interest in you and their puppies future homes
