@imanicekid1 Get a life kid.....get out of the house and off the TV and xbox. Who cares about all that crap....go play football yourself.....I was on the field playing Div 1 football. WOW.
@NWAfan to Florida State's credit they did go undefeated after this disaster of a beat down by Miami by winning their last 11 games including that dramatic victory over Clemson (the puntroskie game) and a hard fought Sugal Bowl win over a tough Auburn team to finish in the top 5 in the final AP poll.
These were the years that the Canes kept Florida State from the national title. 1987, 1988, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1994. Then, Florida State rattled off 5 in a row from 1995-1999. Miami owned their ass from 2000-2004, with 6 in a row (twice in 2003 season), the Seminoles then got 3 out of 4 from 2005-2008, now it looks like it has swung back in favor of Miami after last season's 38-34 win at Doak Campbell.
ya that five in a row came when the canes were on suspension. Go figure it would take suspending the canes for a shit team like FSU to beat us 5 in a row.
@jmoon219 I doubt that dawg FSU recruiting is doing it big and i fuks wif da U too my nigga but u gotta understand all dynasty's shift and I can see FSU & Miami will rise again and FLA will eventually loose that power becuz niggaz aint gonna get PT time wif da gators wif all them good players. When Pete left, 2 coordinators which coached georgia and nc state for alittle bit was gone. All the recruits went to da U son.
Miami became the great program it is by playing the best teams home & away. They have beaten everyone there is beat over the last 20+ years & most of those wins were on the road vs good to great teams. For one program to drop another for just "administrative" reasons just sounds chickenhearted to me. It's easy to go 11-0, vs borderline Div 1A schools & thump your chest like you've done something. Has Miami played creampuffs over the years?; of course they have but not the tune of 5-6 every year
Miami always played a soft schedule in the 80's. Yes they would have 2 or 3 tough games, but the rest were, Cincinatti, Toledo, Miami of Ohio. Florida playes 8 SEC schools every year plus FSU. This year Florida had 11 bowl teams out of 13 games. Sorry buddy UM has won games with a soft Independent schedule of the 80's. Do you want to go thru some of their schedules, we can do that.
the sec is the most overrated conference in college football they only had 4 teams with 8 wins compared to the pac 10's 6 teams with 8 wins. 3 ranked teams out of sec and 4 out of pac 10. the 9th best team out of the pac 10 took the 3rd best team out of the sec down to the wire. the best team alabama or florida or lsu played out conference was va tech. the best teams that the top 3 out of the pac 10 played was cincy, boise state, and iowa all better teams then va tech sec plays a soft schedule
We all have opinions Beaver. The SEC is soo good that they beat each other up all year. That is why the records are that way. Please tell me why the SEC has the most starters in the NFL with 137 and the PAC 10 is 4th with 70. That is a really good indicator of the strength of the SEC don't you think. Just think about it.
yes I get what your saying but I am not talking about individual squads. Sec over the years has had some really good teams I just feel that the pac 10 is a better and deeper conference and get tired of people saying the sec is the best conference in college football when the numbers say they just are not
@KaraLarson26 Florida beat Miami 45-16 in 1971?? so what??? Look at my comment. I specifically said they didn't play in 88' or 89'. Florida has beat the Canes 7x in a row form 1971-1977. I played against Dion Sanders in High School in football, basketball, and baseball, big whoop.
@knightguy11 Miami was not a very good team back then,Florida got tired of losses to Miami that is why they dropped them from the schedule it was fine when they where winning but Miami beating them Florida did not like that, just because you watched Deion from the sidelines did not mean you played aganist him, from Broward County player saw some the best 'Canes,Gators and 'Noles of that generation
@Airman241 Whatever?? I was our starting QB, point guard and 2nd baseman. I played against Deion in 3 sports and we beat North Ft Myers butts most of the time. You think whatever you want. As for the Gators. They dropped Miami when the SEC went to 8 games a season. Florida beat Miami in 82, 83, and 85. Thats 3-1 in a 4 yr span in the 80's. Florida also beat Miami 7 years in a row in the 70's, 1971-1977. I also played against Micheal Irvin from St Thomas Aquinas, they beat us my senior year.
@aamorri1 Great Comment.......I wish I was sitting on my ass collecting welfare checks sometime, lol. I'm very busy my friend.....except this week.....on vacation renting a huge home in the North Georgia mountains...golf. whitewater rafting with the family......thanks for your 2 cents.
Actually the numbers say the SEC is the toughest and best conference. The SEC has dominated the National title this decade. The SEC has more NFL'ers than any other conference. I think the PAC 10 is much better this year than last.
yeah but it seems sec teams have a much easier road to the title game and if USC would have played Florida last year there might have been a different result I just am not sure the sec has been all that great in their 3 national titles they beat Ohio state and Oklahoma who have struggled in bcs games. This year I don't think Florida or Alabama would have gone have a undefeated regular season in the pac 10. in the pac 10 you have to score points and Alabama doesn't score enough.
You are certainly entitled to your opinion beaver, but it's just that....an opinion. PAC 10 teams score alot because they don't play defense. SEC plays great defense. Oklahoma set NCAA records for points scored and Florida held them to 14.
That was such a tough schedule when Miami had to play Oklahoma who in 1985 beat the out of who won the National Championship that year and then beat them again in 1986 when they were ranked #2. Also don't forget Florida State who was great in the 80's and 90's. Also don't forget Notre Dame when they were good and in 1989 beat the hell out of to help win the National Championship. You forget that Miami DESTROYED Florida in the late 80's.
It would of been nice to see Florida and Miami playing when Spurrier got there a year later in 1990. Those early 90's game probably would have been classic.
How do you get 5-6 every year captkirk. They have 2-3 every year just like UM. UM schedules Charleston Southern(2008), FAMU, FIU, Marshall, come on buddy. You can't count a bad conference team because you have to play them, you have no choice. UM has to play DUKE, ect. Florida has to play Vandy and Kentucky every year. ACtually Kentucky is a bowl team and so was VAndy last year. Sorry buddy you make no sense.,
FloGaytor96, your first mistake is looking at someones you tube profile and forming an opinion and stating it as fact. You look just as gay as your team did when they ran away from miami.. reason being... they wanted a more national schedule. You went to tulsa and got your asses kicked at syracuse in 91 and haven't left the state since for an ooc reg. season game. You're a pussy just Uf administration.
Thanks for putting that up. I remember the buildup for this game, it was extreme. The night of the game was also quite memorable. My friends wanted to go rent "Top Gun" from B-buster, and I was like, "hell no, the Florida State/Miami game is on". FSU and that stupid rap they made got pasted 31-0.
Also, I love how young (idiot) Brent Musberger was. I wonder who he had his money on in that game. You could always tell in his voice he was riding money on one of the teams. Got him fired in 1990.
According to your profile, you would have been just seven years old in 1988. I'm sure you have no idea why UF dropped Miami and based on your You Tube name, you probably would never get into ANY college or university.
It's not always about athletics. Sometimes there are more important things. Anyway....
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I remember this game, FSU look like a thrid rate team. But by the end of the year FSU would have beat the crap out of Miami. FSU lost their first two games and then went on to win the last ten. Dominating every game there after.
Trenaway, you are wrong. Miami was the best team in 1988. Their only a loss was AT eventual National Champion Notre Dame by 1 point. A game which Miami shouldve won. I will give you the 1987 FSU team was slightly better than National Champion Miami. And the 1989 Miami's only loss was AT FSU with a frosh QB b/c starting QB Erickson was out for that game. Miami went on to win the title again when they got Erickson back.
I remember this game vividly...I remember knowing my Nittany Lions were damned when Blair Thomas went down with that injury; this game Florida State wasn't ready for the prime time and neither was Bobby Bowden. Eventually they would and go on to dominate college top 5 for the next 14 years????
fsu-miami still means somethin its just the media is suckin floridas dick they dont mention thegame the gaytors dont play anybody untill they are on the downside. whens the last time florida played a regular season game against the pac-10 or the big-12?? never.. and they wont play miami when miami is good everytime they do they get blown the fuck out they dont play miami again till 2013 so there you have it they callin themselves the new miami PLEASE
oh i didn't say it was meaningless i'm just saying it's not as big nationaly, as an FSU fan there is not a game on the schedule i'd rather win than this one, well except maybe the FSU/UF game
Florida doesn't need to schedule out of conference games to prove itself. Georgia, LSU and Alabama are better than any teams Miami plays on a regular basis. Also Florida has played Miami 5 times since 2000. Miami was, in order, ranked #2, #1, #3, #13 and UR entering those games. Only one of those games would be called a blowout in the Canes favor.
I know CBS used to show PAC-10/BIG-10 in the mid 80's and other games. Then in 1987 TO 1990 ABC covered the PAC-10/BIG-10 GAMES. 1987-1990 CBS covered the big games outside of PAC-10/BIG-10 HOME GAMES. Then ABC covered college football 1991-1995. The CBS covered BIG EAST/SEC FOOTBALL from 1996-2000. Then CBS has covered SEC FOOTBALL strictly since 2001.
yeah, that was a damm good fsu team, after that game. Miami was incredible in 1988, they lost a crazy game to ND. Miami had a incredible schedule in 1988, they played FSU (who finished #3 in the country) 11-1, They played a good Michigan team who finished 9-2-1 #4, and Arkansas who was undefeated when they played the U late in november.
IMO 1988 was one of the greatest years for College Football.
Lets see, Florida State the preseason #1 and Miami the defending champs to open the 1988 college football season, sad to see how far these 2 once proud football programs have fallen into mediocrity lately.
that was the year of the seminole rap...the OB was so crazy that night...man...FSU had no chance..but they seldom do anyway...GO CANES...ill be in Trailerhassee oct. 20
i love fsu and miami if i had to choose i would say fsu but i exspect agood game between these 2

The Pots and Pans influence was clearly there. Note how the pre-game introduction is segmented in the theme -- a clear homage to the CBS classic.
