  • In this scene, Loretta is trying, by various arguments, to convince husband Tone that the man he is prosecuting in court for murder is really innocent. She can't come out and reveal that she was a witness, because she doesn't want it known how she came to be at the scene of the alleged murder: delivering money to a blackmailer in exchange for some love letters that were written years ago by Tone to a married woman – the blackmailer’s wife. (Soon, life becomes even more difficult for them...!)

  • I recognize this scene! It's from "The Unguarded Hour" (1936), starring Loretta, Franchot Tone, Lewis Stone, and Roland Young. The movie ought to be available on DVD; I'd love to see it again. It has an elaborate plot, clever dialogue, and, of course, an excellent cast.
