I have heard that Carlson Gracie's BJJ is different from Helio Gracie's. That is considered a more "warrior" style of BJJ. Can anyone explain to me the differences between the two BJJ styles? I know much of Machado BJJ, and Royce Gracie's style. But not this "other" style. I am curious, not mocking.

Helio's style is known for having being less aggressive, in takedowns, etc. It involves a lot more trips, etc.

Different styles of BJJ will always be different. Calrson and Renzo's styles are known as being very aggressive though, and many BJJ styles depending on their teachers may emphasize more judo or wrestling takedowns.

Sounds like a more complete style of BJJ. No disrespect to Helio or his sons, but I always felt they were arrogant and too one-sided. And tried too hard to belittle other arts. Hence, I refused to use any of the BJJ training I had acquired after learning the story of Helio and his sons. But this other style seems more humble, more complete. I think it just might be a type of BJJ I could get into.

It really depends. The Gracie family is gigantic so some might have bad experiences with them while others might not, but it's a REALLY, REALLY big family.

I can tell you that Robson, Renzo's father is generally regarded as a hero by people for being a political dissident when the government was usurped by the military dictatorship. In the MMA community, Renzo is known for being a gentleman and a samurai.

I'm not sure of that, but he definitely fought Sakuraba and they have a very good deal of respect for each other.

Sakuraba ended up catching Renzo in a kimura in the very last seconds of the fight. Rather than tapping out, Renzo let Saku snap his arm. Afterwards there is a picture of Renzo smiling and shaking Sakuraba's hand.

He said people thought that he wasn't in pain because the break was so bad. He said it was the worst pain he'd ever felt.

I have always senced that there was a split in the family but dont know that much. in all the those that have come out of gracie bara and carlsons camp seem to be more aggressive cage fighters that are still keeping up with mma today.
