  • Is it me or does it sound sad.

  • @22013 Sort of, sounds in a minor key for a lot of it, but the style of it, the syncopation, etc or ragtime has the opposite effect I think, although it had to retain some of the original things that made Rachmaninov's Prelude what it is; but overall, when you listen to it, does it really make you feel sad? :D

  • @C3POmeetsData i know that he was in attendance but rag is rag ive heard pieces that sound like rag like on the great courses ragtime lectures but this sounds dull and not like rag

  • well done, i really like seeing the inner mechanics of the piano as you play

  • i agree with trancerb7 because rag wants to make u dance but this makes me sit and feel emotionless 3/5

  • well played! Like how you've opened the lid :P Gives that "rag time" thing a little more oomph!

    Nice

  • Ok! But for my opinion its too fast and unfortunetely it doesn't remind me of Rachmaninoffs Prelude in Cis minor.

  • So? It's a rag, its not supposed to sound like rachmaninoffs prelude in c minor.

  • That's wrong. The rag is inspired by Rachmaninoffs Prelude, so you should be able to hear what the composer had thought of when he wrote this interpretation. If it was ONLY A RAG than it wouldn't be so important to hear the connection.

  • @JPferax

I hope you understand Rachmaninoff was in attendance when it was written.

  • @katmandumanman Yeah. When he commented on it, he said something along the lines of "It's a great interpretation, but I believe the rhythm is all wrong." Rachmaninoff is said to actually quite enjoyed hearing other interpretations of his own pieces. Not to mention, it was written in a time when Ragtime was a new, uniquely American style of music, so, many people in the rest of the world found this sort of thing fascinating. I think this person did a great job!

  • @JPferax yeah, I didn't like this version. the dynamics suck, all the timing is off. I mean, sure, it's the person's "interpretation"(however u spell it) but it was too off to sound good. as for the rushed thing another person said, this rag is actually supposed to go really fast. And rags aren't supposed to be too slow. it wasn't dramatic enough

  • Thank you for a great controlled performance. It is nice to hear a rag played at a sensible speed. I will show this to one of my piano students who is about to learn. Best wishes and keep up the great work. Paul.

  • I love this song and I firstly knew it on a barrel organ. Your piano play is also great. It was fine to get it as mp3 or so =)

  • lovely work

  • Very clear and nicely played, joyous. I'm trying to learn this on the guitar. It makes a Bad Sound....but early days yet.

  • Well done, hard piece to play, you have a nice clear touch, and left hand chords well played. Also the tempo is good, not too rushed, as suits ragtime style. I am impressed! Perhaps some dynamic variations will make it sound even better. Good luck and keep posting new videos.

  • thank you!

  • molto bravo ,very very nice you can send me a sheet music?

  • Grazie tanto! Added URL to video description.

  • Boy That Camera Angle Had Me Fooled, I Thought I Was A Grand.

  • This was beautifully played, and I loved the idea of doing the camera angle so that the strings were showing. :)

  • Thank you!

  • Most of George Cobb's music is now available free to print out online, courtesy of Ted Tjaden's Classic Ragtime Piano website. (Google "classic ragtime piano") Great job on playing this, by the way.

  • Thank you! And terrific website by Ted Tjaden, did not see it before.
