  • I'd fire a bunch of cruise missiles at that uppity hippie then see how funny he thinks he is...

  • Lookouts, OOD, Captain, Sonar shack would never mistake a lighthouse for a vessel. But it is funny.

  • 0.36 and 0.48 says it all! OWNED

  • LOL You Will Changer your course!!!

  • Come on guys, of course it's not a submarine or even a true story.

But you guys who are trying so hard to convince everyone it's an old joke should ask yourselves why it seems so believable to everyone else! lol

  • @morfytastic it is a true story but its not a submarine tho

  • @morfytastic Yea twas true but wasn't a submarine and it was with the Royal Navy and not the US Navy :P

  • @TopNotchActor The USS Montana is an American ship in the USN.

  • wasn't this some joke involving a battleship way back when, because if there were a Montana it would be a SSBN so it would'nt be near there

  • I LOVE IT!!!! NO it aint a SUB. but its freakin funny!!@

  • thats not a submarine you dumb ass

  • This is an ancient joke. Funny but very old. It seems both Canadians and the Irish love this yarn. :)

  • thats a funny looking submarine. dipshit.

  • thats a destroyer you fucking moron

  • thats part of the deseption ... you fucking moron

  • uhh this had nothing to do with a submarine

  • lol, i remember this from nav training...

  • funny stuff though this is a recreation of a real event. this was my favorite one the navigator on our boat would talk about. blah blah blah plot your dots keep them up to date

  • This is an old urban legend.

  • No its not man this is an adaptation of an actual conversation between a friglet and a light house.I was in the NavDiv on a 88i and this was one of my favorite stories the nav would tell during training.

  • Hate to break it to ya, but it's not. I can't post a link, but search "lighthouse" at Snopes.

  • Dude Im sorry but it is hello I got my fish I was in Nav Div this is a true story

  • Comment removed

  • Did you check the Snopes page? Even the Navy has a page on its website that states "The following is being transmitted around the Internet as an event that really took place, but it never happened. It is simply an old joke like those found in popular magazines" and "*Note: USS Coral Sea (CV 43) was decommissioned and scrapped 2 July 1993. Other ships' names appearing have been USS Missouri (BB 63) which was decommissioned on 31 March 1992 and USS Nimitz (CVN 68) which is an active ship. "

  • I heard this joke before I joined the Navy 15 years ago... This is one of the oldest Navy Jokes and it was published in a Readers Digest in the 50's. Far from true. Get some salt on your sholders, your NAV is either full of crap or he is pulling your rookie sea legs.

  • This never happened. If anyone believes this, you're an idiot.

  • "Negative Captain" You're a FUCKING TARGET MATE! Don't call a Surface SHIP a SUBMARINE! Those guys up there are blooming dumb shits" such as the asshole who posted this clip. We are Submarines not Targets Mate!...... Guess he's gone! Submanboise

  • Where's the submarine as title indicates?

  • its under water of course

  • "This is the light house, mate. its your problem"!! hello captain, i think he got owned!!

  • he said "It's your call" I think

  • ya he does

  • Pity this is neither a US vessel nor a particularly large one. It's a British Type 42 (Sheffield class) air defence destroyer. Piece of scrap metal actually.

  • Light house VS. navy cruiser. LOL.

  • OMG how bloody funny is that?

  • Love this commercial. Military Intellagence at it's best

  • bhahaha!!USS Montana got owned!

  • OWNED!!!!

  • lol, that's a good one

  • True or not, it is a funny joke, but a submarine would not make radio contact with a stranger just for navigation purposes....if there would be any truth to the story, it would've been a surface ship ( in the fog perhaps).

  • its true, happened 1932

  • Please provide the name of the event as I'm interested in looking it up

  • try searching: till lands och sjoss, sedan 1932. should be able to find information that way

  • yeah ur right... i wondered directly, because is says its a submarine

  • Hahaha, freakin' classic!

  • lmao that was hilarious!!!

  • this is based on a true story

  • No, it isn't. Ask snopes dot com.

  • it is, only real difference is that it wasnt americans

  • it is a true story

  • haha soooooooo funny

  • lol..."This is a lighthouse captain"

  • This would never happen. Nobody would tell a stationary contact to "alter course" since something stationary has no course.

  • good thing its a joke.

Its amazing how some ppl just have no humor....

  • A stationary contact does have a 'course'. On a radar screen (depending on the settings) even stationary objects have a track, due to the relative motion between the two objects.

  • Well said :)

Anyone else notice there isnt actually a submarine in this ad?

  • you are sooo right about that!! its a ship lol

  • Not true. 1. I'll repeat. A stationary object does not have a course. 2. Relative motion is subtracted out - a stationary object has no course.

  • HALOandMETAL is correct...doofus

  • Whats funny is that probably really happened at one point. =)

  • lol

  • A. Even someone who knows NOTHING about ships can see its not a submarine - doofus

    B. Silva make compasses

    C. The ship shown is a British Type 42 destroyer, not an American vessel

    D. Jeez, don't you people have Google?

  • hahahahahah!!

  • you bastard! there isn't a sub anywhere in the damn vid

  • haha, US got owned.

  • Its not a Sub, but its still funny.

  • Submarine? are you on crack dude?

  • I loved it.

  • not even funny-- that's gay

  • Us yanks can use a good laugh now and then.

However, being a submariner I take offence that a skimmer was identified as a submarine :P

  • Hammer, from one submariner to another, you gotta love officers. God knows why, but you gotta love 'em!=Stefan= SSBN-616G

  • Look, this just shows the arrogance of the USA, and should be enjoyed for what it is: a good laugh at the expence of the Yanks!

  • No, this never actually happened, this is a very old joke that has floated around navy circles forever.

  • why does this say "US Submarine"? this is a surface ship

  • A. Even someone who knows NOTHING about ships can see its not a submarine - doofus

    B. Silva make compasses

    C. The ship shown is a British Type 42 destroyer, not an American vessel

    D. Jeez, don't you people have Google?

  • This is not a real event.

    http://snopes.com/military/lighthse.htm

  • its a swedish comercial for navigation gears :D

  • I think it's a fragate

  • this is a lighthouse lol idiots

  • isnt even about submarines its a destroyer

  • did it really happen?

  • ahahahhahaaa... it did happen...

  • thst didnt seem funny... it seemed like a bad accident
