Arpaio is a genius. But the only problem I have with him is that many prisoners in his jail appear to just be drug users. The War on Drugs is a joke, but I can't really blame him for carrying out the laws he has sworn to enforce; I blame the politicians who freak out about drugs.

The reason criminals choose this tent prison is because they get a reduction in prison time. So in fact Sheriff Joe lets prisoners out early. It's all a load of bullshit. Arizona fucking sucks. I lived there for 3 years and thought was going to die of boredom. Everthing is dead and dry like the the stone age. Look at the fucking sheriff who keeps getting re-elected. One has to work in a jail to see the mentality of the majority. Most do NOT want any form of 'rehabilitation'. It's an individual willingness which most don't possess. Since jail usually means a punishment of up to a year incarceration,so many criminals know they are out soon enough.Very few beg for job skills, very few ask for counseling. Pull your head out of the sand: majority of inmates can care the hell less about being rehabilitated, they just pass the time till release.
The punishment is to go to jail, they take your freedom away. You are not supposed to be punished when you are in jail. You are supposed to be rehabilitated, and you are supposed to learn from your mistake. You wont be rehabilitated if they try to break you down in jail.

I CALL ALL THAT LUXURY. They should be working from 7 am to 9 pm to pay for their own jail time.

Society seems to put more resources and "care" into honouring the human rights of those in prison, most of whom will have been convicted in a court of law, compared to the resources and care we direct towards the elderly who really need a bit of tlc to have some quality of life.

I see a psychologist and a psychiatrist regularly, and am seeking help, and have been for quite some time. Now I have PTSD aggravated from my a pre-existing anxiety condition that was aggravated by the overcrowding and constant "raids" for contraband, while being denied medication for my anxiety. Now YOU as a taxpayer are paying for my disability. Make sure to thank Joe for that when you see him.

In our town, the bank is robbed, locks the tellers in the vault. The bunch runs, breaks into a house, kidnaps my friend, makes him drive them away - he jumps out of the car, gets hurt in the process - they steal his WORK van - wrecks it.. by owning the car - HE is expected to pay the damages the wreck creates. He loses his work van - they don't even prosecute for kidnapping. The get a few years in jail. It took him a year to replace his loses. Where is the justice. .

If you can't afford your bond, you are stuck in this horrible jail system even if you are completely innocent of all charges, while the county takes 6 months before they take you to trial or drop your case. As for the 3 meals a day, that's a basic human right. They teach college courses in class because it significantly lowers the recidivism rate. They're trying to teach people skills so they can get a job when they get out (and also, thats PRISON, not jail).
Also, you didn't address my concern issue with un-convicted detainees who have to deal with that situation when some are completely innocent. Where's the justice in that? Maricopa county is a economically motivated police state. That means, the more people they lock up, REGARDLESS of their innocence or guilt, the higher you will raise in the police ranks. Arpaio is a genius. But the only problem I have with him is that many prisoners in his jail appear to just be drug users. The War on Drugs is a joke, but I can't really blame him for carrying out the laws he has sworn to enforce; I blame the politicians who freak out about drugs.

One has to work in a jail to see the mentality of the majority. Most do NOT want any form of 'rehabilitation'. It's an individual willingness which most don't possess. Since jail usually means a punishment of up to a year incarceration,so many criminals know they are out soon enough.Very few beg for job skills, very few ask for counseling. Pull your head out of the sand: majority of inmates can care the hell less about being rehabilitated, they just pass the time till release.

Are you wanting to say there are NO tv's in prison? No gym, no 3 meals a day, no books, no education, health care. A criminal has EARNED the right to be watched 24/7.What do you expect, a room at the MGM?

okay.... it was me.. i was in maricopa county jail.... pregnant because my SISTER decided to attack me and try to beat the crap out of me... so instead of LETTING HER DO IT because she is PSYCHO....... i put her on the floor and put a bruise on her while i was doing it. i had no marks on me.... so i went to jail... are you happy now?? what coping skills could i have had? walk away? and let her hit me in the back of my head? lay there? and let he rkill my baby?? please im interested in your reply

nope none of the story was omitted....thats it.... there was no proof that she hit me first and she claimed that she didn't. no marks on me... jus ton here where i put her on the floor. no one was there to validate the story... just me and her.... i had to go to work later that day adn my dad and other sister were already at work.... yep they did...thats how they do things in maricopa county....

even though my face was covered in blood from where my step dad held me down, and my sister beat the mess out of me (and me being unable to fight because she was punching at my stomach was why i put he ron the ground the second time) my mom my step dad and sister were all high on meth and i was the one that went to jail..... but my mom was a snitch so go figure right??

I am able to leave the cell area from 7:00 am until 9:30 pm.I can go to the yard, gym, library, day rooms,school, programs,church, visits, work or to the cafeteria during meal times. Most of my time is spent in the cell reading, writing, watching TV, listening to the radio, eating, cooking, praying, meditating and sleeping.
I CALL ALL THAT LUXURY. They should be working from 7 am to 9 pm to pay for their own jail time.

Society seems to put more resources and "care" into honouring the human rights of those in prison, most of whom will have been convicted in a court of law, compared to the resources and care we direct towards the elderly who really need a bit of tlc to have some quality of life.

I see a psychologist and a psychiatrist regularly, and am seeking help, and have been for quite some time. Oh, and before you ask why I went to jail, I was having a manic depressive episode because my doctor prescribed me the wrong combination of medicines, and I got a DUI while manic and out of control. Now I have PTSD aggravated from my a pre-existing anxiety condition that was aggravated by the overcrowding and constant "raids" for contraband, while being denied medication for my anxiety. Now YOU as a taxpayer are paying for my disability. Make sure to thank Joe for that when you see him.

I have a nephew - done drugs all his life - made a mess of himself - now he's 31, can't work ofcourse - now runs to a psychiatrist who has declared he is bi-polar - bullcrap. He's no more bipolar than I am. He accepts the meds - AND SELLS THEM...but ofcourse gets that disability check. MAD - YES - MAKES ME MAD when there is an elderly person out there chosing whether to buy meds or eat. This is a very broken system.

In our town, the bank is robbed, locks the tellers in the vault. The bunch runs, breaks into a house, kidnaps my friend, makes him drive them away - he jumps out of the car, gets hurt in the process - they steal his WORK van - wrecks it.. by owning the car - HE is expected to pay the damages the wreck creates. He loses his work van - they don't even prosecute for kidnapping. The get a few years in jail. It took him a year to replace his loses. Where is the justice. .

Military service is strictly voluntary and you're paid for it. You do realize that in America you are innocent until proven guilty right? Although the tents are for sentenced people only, take away the 120 degree heat, and you still get inhumane treatment. You are fed twice a day, one cold meal in the morning and one hot meal at night, which tastes like vomit. You are denied medication, including psychiatric medication, subject to overcrowding, weekly strip searches and raids, abused and ignored by guards. This man is now being investigated by the DoJ!

As for the 3 meals a day, that's a basic human right. They teach college courses in class because it significantly lowers the recidivism rate. They're trying to teach people skills so they can get a job when they get out (and also, thats PRISON, not jail).

Also, you didn't address my concern issue with un-convicted detainees who have to deal with that situation when some are completely innocent. Where's the justice in that? I know enough about the constitution to know that we also have the 5th amendment, the right to a fair and speedy trial and the 8th amendment, the right against cruel and unusual punishment. There are also basic human rights that every person has. When you have to sit in a jail that denies you basic health care and food for 6 months while you wait for your trial, that's violating both of them. I don't claim to know everything, but I know what my basic rights as a human and an American citizen are

Who are we to say how how the criminals in our nation are prosecuted? We are the people, who else has more say? I believe the death penalty has a place in a modern world, and just because someone has different views does not mean they are blind to the issues. The fact is our prison system is horribly mismanaged and in reality its probably because of our leniency. Rape, Gangs, Drugs in a controlled environment are not difficult to stop you just have to make it a priority.

You seem so very quick to attach and insult me. I simply state that I read he had an 85% rating. I do not agree with the norm system that pampers inmates; just curious.....Joe Arpaio just popped in one day and arrested you for no reason? As far as the kitchen - aren't the inmates in charge of cleaning the kitchen? Criminals whin and complain...waaa...it's hot.......WHAT ABOUT OUR MILITARY THAT FIGHTS IN THE SAME HEAT? It seems criminals and their family comes here to whin. I'm sure there are incedents that are not right but for the majority - I said - change all prison to this example. Im SICK OF THIEVES, MURDERS, RAPIST AND CHILD MOLESTERS. I'm sick of judges that pat them on the head and say ohhhh you are on probation - THE NEXT DAY THEY ARE RIGHT BACK TO THEIR CRAP.

False Arrest. I have Police Reports and I was exonerated by the Goverernor! You can't make it through probation in Phoenix, AZ as it's a SYSTEM DESIGNED FOR FAILURE.

I am not working for Joe. I live in another state where we provide work out rooms, tvs, education, and many other luxuries for people that break the law. Casey Anthony sits in Florida accused of killing her child and she gets to order up meals and treats which most hardworking people cant afford. Ummm, murderers go to maximum security, and rapists and child molesters get the shit beaten out of them in jail unless they go into protective custody. 60% of all Americans incarcerated are there for non-violent drug arrests. If you think Arpaio's jail is full of violent and dangerous criminals, you need to do some research. Thanks for flaunting your ignorance though, it really exposes exactly how misinformed and just plain stupid you really are.

I did get a speeding ticket once. QUESS WHAT? i PAID MY FINE WITHOUT WHINNING. I paid my insurance premium that went up for 3 years. I can tell by your responses that you aren't just the brightest.
