I understand that, and I agree with you. If Luke had killed Jabba, that would indeed have been contrary to the Jedi way. But he didn't. All he wanted was to rescue his friend. True, he did THREATEN Jabba, but I tend to think he was bluffing, trying to scare Jabba into cooperating with him since the hutt was immune to Luke's mental powers. It wasn't like Luke told Leia to kill Jabba. She did that on her own. Luke did kill some of Jabba's henchmen, but only in self-defense.

I have the books on the jedi, everything relating to that was against the jedi. He didn't have to physically harm jabba. And bluff or not, threats like that were against the code as well. Jedi don't interfere in affairs like that, especially with "friends". However Luke was brought up without the knowledge of an entire council behind him. It was sort of a rush job with him becoming a jedi. He couldn't grasp the full teachings so it's not really his fault. But those flaws are still there.

Also, you must remember that Return of the Jedi was made in 1983. George Lucas hadn't fully developed the concept yet. That's why Yoda and Obi-Wan don't tell Luke off for what he did.

But I do agree that, as far as retroactive continuity is concerned, what Luke did was technically against the Jedi way, and I also agree that it wasn't his fault. So let's end this discussion, shall we?

I'll answer your question. If a jedi went to the council and stated that they were going to save a friend from a Hutt who's money and cargo he lost, they wouldn't interfere and the answer no. I will tell you why. 1. It's not their buisness 2. Han Solo brought this on himself. He lost Jabba's cargo and money, it's only right he pays the price. But he didn't plus escaped while Jabba died instead. Kinda messed up the way I see it, lol. Of course as kids it looks heroic but now you realize things.
