  • I am grateful for your wonderful performance of this song which I saw and heard de Grassi play in Santa Barbara in '83. Thank you!

  • @TBSchenck I should be so lucky as to have seen him perform this. When I first heard it years ago, it grabbed me and held me hypnotically. There was no option but to learn to play it. It's hard to describe the feeling. Thanks for your kind comment.

  • Really nice performance. I remember first hearing this song back in '87 or '88 when I was in college. I'd never heard fingerstyle guitar before and it completely blew me away and started me down long line of purchases from the Windham Hill collection. I took a class that DeGrassi taught at McCabe's in LA years ago and asked him what key it was in. He didn't remember! HAHA! I'll have to get the tab off his site. Great job!

  • better sounds than the source tune

  • I just woke up 10 minutes ago hearing this..o m g ...absolutely wonderful !!

  • You, sir, have played the best Alex De Grassi cover on youtube. WOW! this from a fellow player.

  • Excellent!

  • Unbelievable. Very nicely done.

  • Great job, man. Bravo!

  • Sleeping Lady! Ah! I love Alex DeGrassi's compositions. Your play it beautifully. Is it possible for you to post your interpretation of "Wedding Rain"? Another great composition by Mr. Degrassi.

  • @pluggedin2u Thanks for the comment. This is my first request for an instrumental. Thanks for that. I'll see what I can do.

  • I recently became a fan of Alex' music and fortunately I can start from an early age to learn these masterpieces, the only one I tried to play up to now is Western but I think that with some serious practice I'll manage to play something more... Althought they look REALLY difficult (and even more difficult this one you played beautifully) it's a pure joy to play Alex' compositions.

Wonderful work, hope I'll reach your skills, someday!

  • @zadralessandro I'm sure you will, especially starting young. I was about 24 when I first heard Alex's music ( I also learned Western among others by the way.) If you love the music enough you will overcome whatever is necessary to be able to play it.

  • Sounds as good as Alex DeGrrassi,Very well done.

  • Great performance...Thanks for sharing it!

  • Great performance. Slow Circle was the first fingerstyle acoustic recording I ever bought. Completely blew my mind. I was lucky enough to see Alex perform a number of years ago here in LA, took a "master's class" with him just prior to the performance (not sure why I was in there...). He is an amazing technical and emotional performer.

  • Great Cover! Nice work.

  • Really beautiful playing! Thanks! Would you mind describing your signal path for the recording? Guitar, effects, etc. You get such a great sound!

  • Beautiful playing, Tim, and the song is mesmerizing...

  • incredible phantom melody

  • simply amazing. i couldnt find this song anywhere else that i could just listen too, so i figured this was as good as it got, but i was thouroughly impressed! the part at 3:00 always sends chills down my spine. VERY WELL PLAYED!

  • Great performance. Tab is now available through Alex's website.

  • thanks. And thanks for the tip on the tab. A few years too late for me though :-/

  • Wonderfully done Tim!

I love Alex's music. Great job playing and recording.

    Bill

  • Thanks Bill! And thanks for the sub.

  • Absolutely awesome! I love the early Windham Hill stuff and DeGrassi was a favorite. Thanks!

  • thanks! Glad you like it!

  • Wow, how many times did I listen to this album cut -- it was on a Windham Hill sampler album, and I was too intimidated to attempt it! What tuning is this -- it looks like standard, but then it seems it can't be. And, btw, you have an extraordinary ear to have figured this out aurally. Most couldn't play it even with a score in front of them. Great going.

  • Hi inky - on the original album, Alex includes the tuning for all the tracks in the liner notes. I took that as a challenge and used a stop/start method to go measure by measure through it until I had it. The process itself did a lot for my ear development and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to work on their ear,. The tuning from low string to high string is

D A D E A C. The guitar is then capoed at the second fret to create E B E F# B D which is the original tuning in the liner notes.

  • great stuff

  • thanks! and thanks for the sub!

  • WONDERFUL!!!***** Can I have a tab?

  • Thanks! I don't have tab for this. I learned it by ear before any tab for it existed, but I do think one is available somewhere. Not sure where though.

  • Wow, I have a long way to go. I've only been playing for 3 months.

  • Well, don't think that it will take 35 years. I was playing this by the time I was in my mid-twenties, less than 15 years after I'd started playing, and for most of those years I hadn't focused much on this kind of music. If you play every day and always plan on trying something new when you pick up the guitar you'll get there.

  • How many years do you think you have seriously been playing? Meaning everyday practice and learning new stuff. Because if I'm 50 and picked up my first guitar when I was 10, I wouldn't say that I had been playing for 40 years because if I had quit for a while or wasn't actively playing, practicing each day etc.

  • That's an interesting question. I have had periods of time in my life when I didn't play much at all for months at a time, but I've never gone whole years without playing. Certainly for the first 15 years I played nearly everyday. Apart from that you might be able to subtract two or three years when for some reason I just wasn't inspired. And the amount I play per day varies a lot too even when I'm playing everyday. But to make big improvements you do need to play most days for long stretches.

  • Very nicely done, Tim. You make it look so effortless; yet I know that a lot of time and work went into this. Really looking forward to your next instrumental posting.

  • Thanks! Yeah, these kinds of pieces are a lot of work. I do hope to put up some more. Keep a lookout!

  • How long have you been playing guitar?

  • about 35 years.

  • that was beautiful. I'd love to play like that one day.

  • Thanks! If I can do it you can do it!

  • AWESOME!!!!!

  • Thanks!

  • You are excellent! Beautiful peice of music. Can you teach me how to play Steel Rail Blues?

  • WOW!!!! This song and your playing are incredible. I haven't heard you play a song like this before and I love it!

  • thanks! I may do more of these. I've actually written a couple of my own (though I only remember the one sadly.) They're a lot more work though and time is an issue.

  • Beautiful cover.

  • thanks!

  • Very beautiful, Tim

It's such an intricate piece of music and very fascinating to listen to...it looks like it would be difficult to play but you did a wonderful job of it.

  • Thanks Anne. it is a challenging piece. I don't always have the time to work on this kind of thing but they're a lot of fun to play.

  • This is incredible! Your playing never ceases to amaze me! I am continually blessed by your beautiful music.

  • Thanks Laurianni. Glad you like this one.

  • I never heard this one before but i sure did enjoy it.

  • Glad you liked it Quinn. I'm not suprised you haven't heard it before. This kind of music doesn't get promoted very well. But there's a lot of it around.

  • Very well played and not easy my friend, good job!

    R$ick

  • thanks Rick!

  • Absolutely gorgeous...

  • thanks!

  • Hey, I'm the first to view!

I haven't heard this song in many years. Forgot all about it.

    Good work, Tim!

  • Thanks. For some reason I was in the mood to dust this one off and give it a try.
