The MT-32 version seems to have slightly higher quality sound but the SB version sounds more correct and thus a little better. They're both awful, still.
None of them have the same sound as the original. It's like someone took a synthesizer with nice smooth sounds and just plink-plonked away and overdid it, completely destroying the original songs. That's my opinion at least.
Sorry to disappoint you, but this is not Amiga version that you have at the beginning. It's a faster version of the theme, modern PC produced. All sounds are like speeded up and so higher. On Amiga it sounded much, much better.
mt-32 has better midi reproduction, because it was more expensive than the soundblaster. but if u ask me they are both supremely poor, the best version is the amiga version. .
I've always loved the title screen tune, reminds me of something John Carpenter would have come up with way back, for like Escape From New York or The Thing.
Well, the drums sound better in the second version. But the instruments are a bit crappy and sound not so clean as in the first SB version. Have a good day ;)
This game is the best platformer of all time.
Sonic is best too.

Amazing, can't believe I've found this. They should remake this game, it would be mint!

Today's OPL emulation isn't bad. The last big step was DosBox 0,73 (the improved the OPL engine BIG TIME).
Munt it nowhere near a real MT-32. Today Munt is more a ... better than nothing solution. Sadly it looks like the Munt project is pretty much dead.

Never, no oil, batteries too heavy, public transport only, no private transport in 30 let alone 50 years!

Are you sure you used an MT-32 acutally? It sounds not really like it...

It's emulated actually
Kumagoro314 2 years ago
@Kumagoro314 Yeah, MT-32 doesn't emulate well at all. And by well I mean "even passibly mediocre."

An actual MT-32 sounds a lot better than the emulator, believe me, i have an MT-32, maybe ill make some recordings.

Amiga version is shorter, and sounds silly with those xylophone samples. Doesn't fit well IMO

@Kumagoro314
Is that a joke? The Amiga is FAR superior soundwise than this blippy crap

I prefer the Amiga MOD version for this intro :)

Agreed. The Amiga version got superior music.

for this song, i prefer the standard music. there are a few channels that are nice in the MT-32, but i give the best overall to the SB.
gasparmc 3 years ago
That may ba caused by the fact that the MT-32 is emulated, but for my ear it sounds quite close to the original
Kumagoro314 3 years ago
The MT-32 was emulated! The real one sounds quite different due to custom patches and SysEx messages...
