@dekubaner i dont know about other British families, but in our house we shower in the mornings in the winter to warm up on a cold morning (we dont heat the house either) and in the evenings in the summer so the bed doesn't get all sweaty - I like it:D best of both worlds, imo:D:D
i hope someone has already mentioned it, but i think one must shower at night or right before bed even if you showered in the morning, especially if you live in states where it gets hot and you sweat. you sweat even if you don't notice it, even if it is cold.
I hate their bathing system. I saw a kid in a Japanese shower (in this class TV movie). what she did was put a cover on everything in the bathroom and turned the whole room into a showerroom (of course they didn't show the kid actually shower. come on now! lol). She then demonstrated how she washed her hair and stuff, but man wetting up the whole bathroom to take a shower? lol
I find this video really interesting, to see how different american and japanese cultures are to americans....i am half japanese livivng in america, but i grew up with a japanese mom, so most of my home life stuff is japanese, and i go to japan every year to visit my family. (my life story for ya....haha) basically, the two cultures are jumbled in my head..haha. So thanks for the upload, i really enjoyed! :)
why is the bath water blue?? Is it like bath bomb or something?? I don't know cos I never take a bath, I just shower = = and you just pour water over yourself to wash your hair ?? why can't you just use the shower thing??
@1stochastic cos you need to pay for the water in Japan. If you replace it for everyone, then you'll be using a lot of water. If you've got 4 people in your family, then doing that every day would multiply your water bill for 4 times.
@1stochastic but people in Japan don't get paid as much. I'm not sure if they even have a minimum wage but they get paid less, I don't think they get paid child benefit either. BTW, I don't live in the US, I live in Ireland and we don't need to pay for water just yet. We've got plenty here but they're going to start making us pay some time this year.
Here in australia the average yearly bill is about $900 for water... in my city (melbourne) we have pretty strict water restrictions which limit the amount of water we can use. They have eased off a bit the past year, but at their peak, we couldn't water our gardens or wash our cars etc... water prices are expected to increase again this year, so we'll be looking at paying about $1300 p/a in my area
@TheLollipopAhh Ah, Japanese people get paid fairly well if they have a company job. Most employees, even government workers get a bonus twice a year. Sometimes these bonuses can be equal to 1 - 3+ months salary. I live in Japan and my wife works for a company and gets paid this way.
When I was young we also shared the water. First me or my brother would take a bath, and then my dad^^ mom would always take a shower though.. but now that has changed xP
Back in the day when I was born in Wales, we had a metal tub that hung on the kitchen wall. It was filled with hot water on Sunday nights and we all bathed in the same water; cleanest person first! We washed the rest of the week with facecloths and a small basin of hot water and soap; the bath was a big deal. I think we wouldn't suffer with such dry skin if we quit immersing ourselves in hot water as we do ~ but I am now addicted to the hot shower to start my day ~
i have lived in japan for a few years - amd i know taking a shower before going to sleep is totally normal there - no one will ever complain of you taking a shower as you pleased at any time of a day or night - im not sure where you got that impresion nu 99% villagers in remote japan do take showers and hottubs at any time they want - and thats true that hot tubs are the super norm in japan but the way YOU described it i wouldnt describe it at all -
so how long does all of that take? i mean, i wouldn't want to take too long and make the host family think i'm just selfish or something. but it does seem like it would take a bit of time rinsing, along with the soaking in the tub. :P
I'm Canadian and I will pretty much always shower at night before I go to bed. After you get off work you are all sweaty and gross. Makes more sense to shower before bed and then wake up clean in the morning.
I LOVE my Japanese Soaking Tub! The best thing I've ever done for myself. After a long hard day to sit in my Ofuro and relax is the most amazing gift. Mine is gorgeous stainlesss steel handmade by Artists in the United States. In case any one is interested find them online by looking up RelaxationTub
Wow, where I'm from We shower in the morning and at night, It's really hot and I hate Going to bed sticky and going to school feeling that I took my last shower hours before I even woke up., but hey that's just me
Okay, I am American and think it is gross not to take a baths at night. I am second gen American, Eastern European. The reason, because after a hard day working, walking, sweating, etc., you are dirty! It is gross to not take a bath in the evening and climb into bed this way! You also get disgusting sheets, oily pillow cases, and are a smelly bed partner. Yucky..... Sleep is also better with a warm bath.
@Maeven6 I agree! I'm Canadian, but with a French/Mexican background and I could never imagine going to bed without a nice bath or shower! It's really really gross otherwise. And I usually just take a quick cold/warmish shower in the morning too, just to wake up and feel clean. I can't understand how most americans dont bathe at night!
i have a foreign exchange student from korea, shes been living with us for about 6 years, so were pretty close now, shes like family. when ever her mom visits from korea, they take bath with each other, im like what the hell, but i guess thats how they do it over there. her friend and her takes showers together, its weird i know.
@cosmosvision Yeah but you never know when it's going to start up again, and since the whole family uses the same water in the tub, it's just polite to err on the side of caution. But it's nice to hear from a guy that isn't completely grossed out by it!
@brotherannie How do you tell your host family that you can't bathe because you're on your period? I imagine that's something they don't really teach in Japanese class...
So that makes me.. idk, i've always tooken my shower after dinner, and i didn't know this trivial thing. showers in the morning for me is like a wide awakening, i don't necessarily want... how i wake up is my coffee. :)
this is interesting.. and when your sick are you aloud a shower mid-day? I sorta kinda do that. ^^ feels really nice.
im strange.. in the US are you suposed to shower in the morning?
i dont think takin a shower at night /morning is a cultural thing. i think its a preference thing. Im american and ive taken showers at night my whole life. Id rather get into my bed clean than get into it after being out all day.
@MyEnime I think typically the shower is more convenient to take at night since you want to make sure you are clean before you get in the bath. The bath is typically used to relax after a long day of work.
