@Shinobukita Actually, it's not Shotokan Karate. The style is actually an style called ansatsuken that comprises of a mixture of a few styles, like Judo, Boxing, and various others. Capcom USA called it Shotokan, because it bares a resemblance to the actual style.

In the art that Ken & Ryu practice, the Hadoken is actually the killing blow. Because of the games we tend to think they chuck fireballs like bullets, when it fact it takes quite a bit of Chi energy for them to use their "special" move

Criticism. Its a good teaser but the way this Ryu throws his punches is just a bit off. I think the actor probably has his own fighting stance but its not Ryu's stance. His arm is raised too high up, a bit like a Boxing Stance.

I can't feel it. I can feel the raw power and muscles which is great, but the stance is off.

Also, it does look cooler if the hadouken is charged instead of whipped out like a fast punch. And i think it's what it's supposed to be like. If they took a few seconds in the game to perform, nobody would ever use them, and the games are built to be fair. In the animes & comics however, they take a few (2-3) seconds to load, usually done when theres some distance between them. Sometimes longer.

I think they did it more because this series was more the history of Street Fighter II, showing Ryu develop the Hadouken and Ken developing the Shoryuken (which he uses to completely decimate Vega in the series). The other thing, too, is that the series and movies since have portrayed the Hadouken as the ultimate technique. As such, it should require a charge time.

The alpha series and such came before(but you know that, of course), so I guess they(Ryu and Ken) has had many years to make it more compact, hurt less and with a lot shorter chargetime, as seen in the games, then the longer charged up Shinku Hadouken is something only Ryu bothered learning, since Ken went down the Shoryuken with added fire path instead..
