  • that bass sounds warm, thick n rich!

  • pure blues , what a great feel and power

  • Been searchin Koko Taylor clips on youtube to find out who was her guitarist in the mid-eighties. He made a big impression on me when I saw him (and her) at the Chicago Blues Fest. He played a hollow-body, and man, he sounded good. Can't find the info I want, though. Anyway, good raw blues is still alive. Check "Rosetta West - Underground."

  • @mielazul Frustrating. Knocked out too. I've only been able to find his name, Michael "Mr. Dynamite" Robinson. No story or even a bio. Maybe somebody knows something? Links?

  • @heyjustathought Hey, thanks for responding. I've been looking into this more since I last wrote here, and I came up with the name Eddie King. He played for Koko at the time I saw her (1986) and he played a hollow body electric. So that might be the one...but I haven't looked into "Mr. Dynamite" Robinson though, so I'll follow up on that. Thanks again.

  • @mielazul Hmmm, we both may be right. Robinson and King both played guitar on Koko's only live album, although Robinson is given lead credit. Thnx for the follow up. • What a talent Koko Taylor was. She is sorely missed.

  • dats great music

  • so good!!!!!!

  • superb

  • How strange to have Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee out in front, but just sitting there. Looks like Koko used the same dentist as Willie Dixon.

  • There needs to be more music like this now'adays...

  • RIP KOKO LOVE U!

  • I think they're synching. What show is this from? I suspect German TV? Great to see these people though, The next performers (who were they?) in the wings towards the end look distinctly uncomfortable, Many thanks

  • little walter....fucking genius. and only seconds of play on this video. it's a shame.

  • Fucking awesome.

  • KOKO TAYLOR WAS THE BLUES, rip Beautiful! ;o)

  • Wow, I just became a Koko Taylor fan

  • the queen of chicago blues!

  • tremenda voz!!

  • The guitar players name is Hound Dog Taylor legendary Chicago blues musician...Check out his albums on Delmark records they smoke!!

  • I saw her more than 20 years after this at the Chicago Blues Fest, and she was still awesome. The thing that stuck out the most for me though was the tone her guitarist was getting - he was playing a hollowbody electric and it just sounded so GOOD. I recently tried to research who that was, but I can't be sure. Eddie King? I'd love to know if someone can tell me. Check my channel for good raw blues, btw

  • This is such a great tune!! And KOKO sure can sing it!!!!!

  • Love the blues and Koko could crank em out ! RIP Koko

  • omg im so upset - this is LIPSYNCHED

check how she goes way out on 1:22

plus, no harmonica sound this way that far off the mic.

  • @brewjake The video is out of synch, That is all. She has no need to lipsynch! BAM!!!

  • @brewjake not lip synched just old camera

  • I remember driving thru Alabama at 3am thumbing thru AM stations for a local talk show. Then I heard "Here is KoKo Taylor". This song stuck in my head all the way to Ft.Worth.

  • I reckon the harmonica player is Little Walter. By those years Sonny Boy Williamson was an old man. Love all the great blues harmonica players. Must be a great harp band up there!

  • @Johntheresonator i hope to join them some day, been playing harp for over 40 years, all of them were influences on me, as well as Paul Butterfield, Jack Bruce, Keith Relf, and Robert Plant who were the white players that i learned from

  • Love it! Erykah Badu covered this live at her concert last week and it was serious! she broke it down and really captured Koko's sound with her whole band. It was so fun!!!

  • I'm gonna Wang dang doodle all 10 minutes long.

  • Koko Taylor, Little Walter, Hound Dog Taylor... and could the guy playing the harmonica be Sunny Boy WIlliamson? Kinda looks like it.

  • @peliparado94 Yes that's Sunny.

  • @peliparado94

little walter plays harp here, but there is one shot that u can see brown mcgee and sonny terry waithinn for there

  • Yes, he is. (6 fingers on his left hand blah blah bla). Thanks for the video.

  • Koko Taylor was a very sweet woman, and a class act all the way. Met her years ago (a few times) and she treated my daughter VERY nicely. Left us with some wonderful memories.

  • Anybody know how old Koko was at this time?

  • this girl knows how party,

  • great post ,the real deal

  • i love this

  • Strange to see Sonny Terry & Brownie McGee just sitting there on the sideline listening and waiting on their turn.

  • Coco was a beautiful lady!!!

  • This used to be the fight song back in the day

  • the greatest

  • pure gold

  • Hound dog taylor looking slick.

  • @shinigami285 - American Folk Blues Festival DVDs [4 vols.]

  • Everybody looks boring, angry or depressed, except Koko Taylor, why? many hours playing the same song???

  • Sonny Terry looks depressed. Probably because of Little Walter:)

  • Nothing can quite touch the original, but PJ Harvey does an OUTSTANDING cover of this.

  • Her voice, out of many, just hits the all the right notes. To me, for female vocalists, she is tops.

  • THIS is music!

  • Koko Taylor é demais...

  • And it's Hound Dog Taylor on GUITAR!!!!!!! sweet!!!

  • @bloveableful

Watch Out! Koko had to call up Pistol Pete in order to crack a smile outta Hound Dog 1:01. He sure didn't seem to be too Wild About [Koko] Baby! Not even her gold tooth or singing about pitchin' Wang Dang Doodles could move him! *grin*

  • @OakBluffer haha, thanks for the laughs!

  • @OakBluffer - I love the way you said that :)

  • they beuatiful couple! the taylors!

  • Excellent bass line and such great singing!

  • WOW ! BLOWN AWAY *****

  • Blues is my cure, it soothes my soul. Koko was a fantastic blues shouter and her music will always be my companion...especially in times of trouble

  • koko taylor was so cool!! she used to stay at our house in boston whenever she would play up there. one of the nicest people you could meet!!

  • @suitman36 ... What a Lady! ... She starts calm but by and bye she digs in flaming rythmn'---"Tell Double Crossing Ed,/ Tell Abyssinia Ned / Tell ole Pistol Pete / Everybody gonna meet / Tonight we need no rest / We really gonna throw a mess / We gonna break all the windows / We gonna kick down all the doors / We gonna pitch awang dang doodle all night long..." What does that mean? Willie Dixon took that from an old lesbian song "The Bull Daggers Ball" says Mike Rowe in te book Chicago Blues.

  • blues all stars!!!!!

  • er du den biologiske moren til dipsi siden du er litt stor

  • they should play this in clubs

  • good god a fast talking fanny i wonder if she ment the same as that means in scotland ie a slag

  • This song makes me smile every time I hear it. I love her voice!

  • Sing Koko!

  • The guitarist behind Koko with the 4 pickup guitar is I believe, Hound Dog Taylor.. almost 100% sure..

  • @MoosBros he had 6 fingers on his left hand... random fact

  • Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee at the 2 minute mark.

  • @MoosBros You are right man he is the Hound

  • @MoosBros of course he is...

  • @MoosBros That is his trademark guitar!

  • @MoosBros it is indeed

  • @MoosBros and he has 4 fingers on the left hand :)

  • @UnceBobTouchedMe 6 fingersss! ****

  • @MoosBros Yes he is

  • @MoosBros It certainly is.

  • perfect playing, no one showing off

  • @madFlam1

Yes, that's the most agreeable feature of it all, next to the music.

  • what the fuck has happened to music

  • @edoliver26 It change, which isn't bad actually.

  • She's one of my Chicago "wang dang" Favorites! She IS Chicago.

  • True grit! :) Ala Sophia ~ 'Picture it... Click... turn of the millennium. I'd never heard anything quite like it before or since.'

  • Willie Dixon and Howlin' Wolf preceded this great version. I like the Pointer Sisters version too.

  • howlin wolf style

  • Hound Dog Taylor on back up guitar.

  • here come my baby flashing her new gold tooth

  • im 24 and thanks 2 my grandfather i was raised on this..thank u gramps

  • They don't make em like this anymore

  • Great video! I miss her voice, she was one of the greats!

  • Oh Yah!!!!! All night Long!!!!!!!! :)

  • This video has been blessed by God...it must have been....

  • I love this song!!!! thanks Granny!!1

  • I love this clip soo much.I'm compelled to list the reasons.1>Koko's voice is a force of nature to be reckoned with.2>She could pitch anyone's wang dang doodle all night long every day.3>It feels like such an innocent song although I'm always thinking naughty thoughts at the lyrics.4>Sonny Terry & Brownie McGee are there and they too are legends.5>Little Walter plays a mean ass harp throughout.6>The key reason I love this clip 2:40 Houd dog goes from stone cold cool to dirty little smirk.LUVZIT!

  • I saw the queen in 1997 at tha Double Door in Charlotte. One of the Hottest shows ever at the DD.

  • You just know Hound Dog is gonna bust loose at some point ...but no...he holds it in

the whole song. KoKo thought this was a fun song but that it was over rated. Im sorry

Miss Koko..but I think youre just bein modest. This song is just THUMPIN!!!

  • fabulous. thank you.

  • I Loves its! RIP Ms.Koko Taylor Memphis,Tn. Loves ya!

  • I don't know if thatz a positive...espaecially coming from that bCKGROUND.

  • AMAZING!!!!!!!!

  • damn people

  • fuck! this is real gunpowder!! SUPREME!

  • this is beautiful and extraordinary

  • Little Walter looks like he's in his early-sixties in this video, and he died at 37! SMH. He must've lived an extremely hard life, especially since black folks usually look young well into their fifties.

  • @Codycole80yep, and the same goes for somebody like otis spann, who looks much older than mid 30s in the videos here on youtube. these people lived their music, lived it to the hilt. that's the difference between them and most new blues performers.

  • Pops is mad as hell 1:49 "ya'll got me sitting here looking stupid...everybody's playing something but me...fuck ya'll!"

  • @Stressed2Capacity now THAT'S funny.

    lmao

  • @Stressed2Capacity That's funny as HELL!!!!!!! ROTFLMBAO!!!!!

  • @Stressed2Capacity course that's sonny terry and brownie mcgee they are ace. they must have been up next like in joolz holland show....uh dont get me started!

  • @Stressed2Capacity ...Man you crazy...He's looking like will yall hurry the hell up!

  • @Stressed2Capacity "Pops" as you call him is Sonny Terry. The greatest harp player in the history of blues.

  • @davemooreblues - I think you might be mistaken, it looks like sonny terry and brownie mcghee to me?

  • @davemooreblues Rice Miller will be glad to know that, I'm sure... snicker.

  • @Stressed2Capacity Yes, that's a funny moment. Of course 'pops' is Blind Sonny Terry, sitting next to his long time musical partner Brownie McGhee. Terry was a harmonica player in his own right but of course the great Little Walter is up there preaching a sermon on his harp. Wonderful Willie Dixon composition and wonderful, wonderful voice by the sorely missed Koko Taylor.

Anyone know who the skinny guy is on guitar behind Koko? The other guitarist looks like Matt Guitar Murphy.

  • @Johntheresonator

Every now and then I return to this video to get a peek at the skinny guy on guitar. I cannot figure out who he is...I am clueless!

  • @Stressed2Capacity Actually we've both missed other posters comments that it is Hound Dog Taylor. I looked on Google images and there he is, there is even one of the guitar, saying it is a 'wiring nightmare!'

OK any views on the drummer anyone?

  • @Johntheresonator

    Odie Payne I think.

  • @Stressed2Capacity ,

that's Sonny Terry, does look alittle mad

  • @Stressed2Capacity thats Sonny Terry, amazing harmonica player himself, he was probably gonna play the next song.

  • @roysrod actually thats LIttle Walter on harmomica and Hound dog on guitar you can find videos of both from this same show on here .

  • @gmarky81 I was responding to the comment made by stressed2capacity, he made reference to the old guy sitting down, on the video, at around 1:49... I thought it looked like Sonny Terry...

  • @Stressed2Capacity LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Stressed2Capacity That's Brownie and Sonny waitin' to go on next

  • @Stressed2Capacity they look like sonny terry & brownie maghee

  • @Stressed2Capacity they look like sonny terry & brownie maghee

  • @Stressed2Capacity That's sonny terry dude and he plays harmonica plus he's with his partner brownie mcghee!!!!

  • @Stressed2Capacity - That "pops", if I'm not mistaken, is the great harp player Sonny Terry and the guy next to him is his long time partner Brownie McGhee.

  • @Stressed2Capacity ...That's Sonny Terry sitting next to Brownie McGhee, he does look kinda bored.

  • Thats' the SNCC battle song....

  • 1:48

On the left, the Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee rural blues duo.

  • one of the greatest of all time....we'll miss her...

  • great rendition of this classic by Koko in her prime.

    full throated.

    love it

  • Her voice is amazing... I've never heard of her before, found this looking for Little Walter. Thanks for sharing!

  • i grew up singing this with my dad one of my best early memories

  • Comment removed

  • <3 KOKO!!!!!

  • go koko! bless your soul.

  • wish I had been there! I was just born that year!!!!!

  • man, I'm telling you, there is nothing like seeing these famous female blues singers in their youth burning it up. I mean there is a certain electricity that girl gives the band, the song, the music!!!!!!!!!!!!

    mean.

  • the riffs being played by the rythm section remind me of power of soul by band of gypsies

  • Wonderful version of this song next to The WOLF himself. Little Walter and Hound Dog Taylor ... German Televison (1967). The first time ever I saw "real" black blues musicians!

  • I love hear deep voice and the song.

  • Savoy Brown and Love Sculpture Should have all the respect... But this is soo neith.... I was just sittin n listnin to Koko yesterday, so it's gotta mean something when she just pops up as a suggestion here on Utube... Hm... I wounder if it's an omen that's telling me I'm gonna get me some Wang Dang Doodle!?

  • That's Hound Dog Taylor on guitar. Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee were seen offstage.

  • Always loved Koko's version. Great footage and fantastic to see and hear Little Walter too.

  • looks like Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee sittin there listenin' in...

  • Hung out w/ Koko on westside of South Bend. She knew she was good.

  • @overallrecord

    isn't westside of South Bend....the city? :-)

Great memory for you - hanging out with the Lady.

  • YES!!

  • How great!!!

  • Little Walter & Koko... my word!

  • Is that Jimmy Davis playing rhythm guitar?

  • I was so fortunate to see her play a few times in the early 90's. The best!
