  • I LOST my original cd ages ago. does anyone know

where i can download the enhanced version from.

i played both on the the cd. and the enhanced version

is way better. i lost the cd. and would like to play it again.

other games i recommend by the way (which i also lost the cds for) lol

simon the sorcerer 1 & 2 and beneath a steel sky

  • the BEST kings quest to date

  • Alexander is one brave soul.

  • You can buy the collection of King's Quest on Steam

  • You no longer need to run Windows 3.1 in DOSBox to play the enhanced version of KQ6. You can now run the game itself in ScummVM instead.

  • How and where did you get this game?

  • That Sierra logo opening is so amazingly cheesy with its MIDI quality. Gotta love it!

  • Pretty hopeful that his men rowed back to Daventry considering he sailed for months... though they are a bunch of pirates, so who knows?

  • I'm going to go to college for Video Game Design, and the first thing I'm going to try to do is make a new, awesome looking, King's Quest remake.

Please give this comment a thumbs up if you would buy it/think it would sell!

  • The enhanced version of King's Quest VI actually is NOT higher resolution than the DOS version -- it is only upscaled. The actual graphics are still 320x240.

It would have been nice if King's Quest VI was actually available in 640x480 resolution.

  • @barichm0 The interface and portraits were new, not upscaled.

  • @shadyparadox

Yes. However, the game world graphics are upscaled.

Is there anywhere where Windows 3.1 can be downloaded? If not, can it still be purchased?

  • Also, Jollo has been caricatured a bit in this version.

  • @barichm0 King's Quest 6 Enhanced is actually running in 640x440 and yes, the interface, portraits, inventory and King's Quest logo inside the game menu are really hires - this game is already running (even in hires) under ScummVM daily build

  • @mkiewitz

Yes. However, it would have been nice if the game world graphics were also at the higher resolution.

  • @mkiewitz What are hires?

  • @HBourgoin hires is short for 'high resolution'. Older sierra games (like King's Quest 6) used 320x200 pixel resolution for backgrounds and sprites (sierra called those views) - this was the so-called VGA resolution from back in the days. The hires version of King's Quest 6 has some additional graphic content that uses 640x440 pixel resolution.

  • @mkiewitz So this isn't the "hires" version?

  • @HBourgoin no. this IS the hires version, also called "enhanced" King's Quest 6. Just look at the character portraits, when they are talking.

  • @mkiewitz Oh, OK I see. Thanks.

  • Just hypothetically... wouldn't the KQ series make for an AMAZING movie? I realize that it's not likely to EVER happen. I'm just saying... what if??

  • @SaratheSlytherin

A stereoscopic 3D movie should be made of King's Quest VI.

  • @barichm0 read the game manual again sometime, the author and illustrator work together so well its almost like a travel advert for the green isles

  • @SaratheSlytherin I agree, but the games aren't well-known enough to make a movie out of them.

  • I guess i played the enhanced version! YEAH THE MUSIC I REMEMBER THIS!!!!!

  • @bbruceify

Do they (the players) go to higher levels as they go along?

  • @crawhip2 No.

  • this was quite possibly the best computer game ever made

  • @Kingucktoad Or at least one of them.

  • I still have this game wish I could play it on my laptop oh wells memories :)

  • *cough* virgin prince *cough*

  • I miss the King's Quest series so much.

  • @Cance251 I miss them as I miss being young and having time to play them.

  • @45Akira You can say that again. I want the 1990's back so badly.

  • this has higher quality midi than mine does--how did you get that working? I remember being able to do that on 32-bit sound cards... anyone know how to get this emulation working?

  • I'm amazed you got this to work! I have tried forever to get it working on XP and have failed. I haven't played this version since Win 98 when the 1997 King's Quest Collection first came out. Thanks for the video!

  • Greatest game ever. I forgot they used 3d graphics in the intro.

So funny to watch oldschool 3d graphics like this.

  • This is the one I remember playing on a Windows 95 that was upgraded from 3.1

I had it on CD and I remember when I discovered the Girl In the Tower song on it

  • yeah same here. This version of the game came with my 3.1 pc computer back in 1994. This was my first king's quest game.

  • i can still play it on my old laptop windows98 XD

  • oh my god. it's my childhood!!!! *tears*

THANK YOU!!! I would give anything to play these games again.

  • Or... you could play them for free using Dosbox and a downloaded version (providing you owned the original). If you really would do anything to play them again, do some research. You might be rewarded...

  • As a matter of fact you can. In 2006 Sierra released a King's Quest Collection where it contains all the KQ games from I to VII. You can buy it a local game store or in eBay.

  • is it the one with the purple cd?? is that the enhancement?? im using that but the gpx doesnt look the same

  • I know what you mean! I haven't been able to play these games in years because my old computer broke down and I can't seem to find a new(used) one to replace it.:(

  • get DYI comp

  • What's that?

  • @istril google king's quest vi cd download :)

  • @istril

I have tears too! This along with Quest for Glory, Police Quest, and Freddy Pharkas were my childhood. How I miss those days and everytime I watch these videos on Youtube it takes me back! I still play video games and nothing that it out nowadays has as much heart as King's Quest VI.

  • They should REALLY remake the King's Quest games with modern graphics and sounds, along with some of the original sounds, and use KQII + VGAs version instead of the old one.

  • yeah i agree. indie companies like agd and ia have been remaking them in regular vga for years now with kq 1-3 and now quest for glory II but it would be really incredible if they remade them like the recent remake of Secret Of Monkey Island in higher res. that monkey island remake is incredible!!

  • I love how the queen is trying to get him to get over the princess by saying that they only met once.

Somebody should remind her that at the end of Part 2, she agreed to marry the king after he walked in the room.

No kidding, play it sometime. This strange man walked in her room, they kissed and the next scene was their wedding.

  • Yeah, the AGDI remake tried to dignify it by saying they had some mystical connection beforehand or something.

  • how do you get this version of KQ6?

  • @shadyparadox

I prefer thinking that Valanice is just a whore and she's trying to remind Alexander that not all women are that easy. Though this game basically shows gamers that you just need to give a woman a knife and she'll marry you.

  • How were you able to get this version working? I've got the original CD-rom but can't get the game to run in XP and DOS-box with the HQ portraits and icons.

  • Wow, this version really is better.

  • I have to question the logic of Alexander, thinking that his men would paddle back to Daventry in their lifeboats, when they journeyed for months to reach the islands, which were in such close proximity now. :-)

  • This one and KQ5 were by far my favorite PC games growing up. Thanks for the upload!

  • I remember being so impressed by the voice acting on CD-Rom now this type of thing is common place and done much better. Classic game.

  • Wow! I remember when this was the pinnacle of technology lol. How far we've come.

  • the narrators voice is fucking amazing!

  • I had this enhanced version. it came with my computer back in 1993. It was the first king's quest game that I had ever played. But it was my second adventure game. My first adventure game was the original leisure suit larry. lol. I was about nine 11 when I played larry.

  • This enhanced version is the one I remember playing. Yes! Thanks for posting.

  • How did you record this? I thought Win 3.1 didn't have recording programs.

  • Windows 3.1 runs in DOSBox.

  • I remember trying to beat the game back when i was like 8 and i had no source of internet..it was fun. I cant play the game in the enhanced version let alone at all. Thanks for uploading this. =]

  • What happened to sierra? Last time I saw 'em, they made "the hobbit" video game. How sad.

  • they also made the half life games

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAAHno.

They PUBLISHED one of them. ONE of them. And they didn't come close to making it.

  • i see

then why sierra took part in it?

  • The company that developed Half-Life might've been too small to sell and advertise their game worldwide by itself.

It's also possible that the Sierra label was tacked on to make the game sell better. The latter's certainly why Sierra has been kept around for this decade.

  • Thank you for taking the time to capture this and put it up on Youtube. This brings back memories of the 7-year old me.

This was one of the included games with my Packard Bell from the early 90s (1993, if I remember properly) It was when CDs where the big new thing with computers and we were all wowed. I wasn't very good at the game but eventually I did finish it.

  • Ha I also had a packard bell along with all these other point click games..Day Of The Tentacle, Indiana Jones And The Fate Of Atlantis, Quest For Glory..Memories =]

  • Windows 3.1? Wow, that's not just old school, that's ahmish old school. And Jane Jensen? I've heard of her, she wrote the Gabriel Knight games (I've only played the third, but I liked what I saw). But... did I misss something? Where did Alexander meet Cassia or whatever her name is and what happened to her?

  • They met briefly at the end of King's Quest V, and that's when Alex decided he wanted to marry her.

  • Her name is Cassima.

  • The memories... Wow, I remember when I first experienced this game on a friend's Mac. He was really bad at the game, but just seeing that intro and playing a bit of it convinced me that I had to own it. Thanks for doing this video series!

  • Use the lifeboats to go back? Didn't it take them 3 months to get to where they are? I'm sorry but I think the crew is gone

  • You'd think so but according to the epilogue, the crew DID survive and somehow got back to Daventry and warned the Royal Family Alex was missing.

This game brings back fond memories. This version even more so.

  • I'm so glad you resumed this instead of waiting for that other video site to be active to post it!

I could have sworn I had this version installed when we got the game years and years ago, but I can't figure out how to reinstall it : (
