What's a good rose for a guy for colder weather? I have Lyric Man which I like a lot. I'm considering Portrait of a Lady or Une Rose from Frederic Malle, of the 2, which do you think fits my gender better and also, any others to recommend???

@perrytan10 I think I'd lean more towards Une Rose for a guy. For more fantastic guy-roses, try Francis Kurkdjian Lumiere pour Homme, Eau d'Italie Paestum Rose, Keiko Mecheri Oliban, Fresh Cannabis Rose, Etat Libre d'Orange Rossy de Palma, and my ultimate: Amouage Homage Attar.

Just tried Noir de Noir! Its quite nice, winey, plasticy (truffle accord?), and slightly sweet; definately a darker rose when compared to Lyric. I heard that it is an amped up version of Bond's Westside. I really like it, although it does feel a little bit like a less rosy and more restrained Une Rose from FM if that makes any sense.

Can't wait to try Lumiere PH!

It is one of the only fragrances named "Rose' I HAVE EVER LIKED! This company is so strange. Their formulas are wicked. The Patchouli and the Oud are tough....nasty, gritty. The Neroli is quite beach scene watery. I do like this company and have ordered more than I thought I WOULD ORGINALLY. They grow on ya. Sorry about the caps. Up again all night..just can't sleep.

@CocaineLord Fierce is not for me, and I resent that A&F guff the stuff into the shared airspace outside their stores. It's olfactory warfare. Fine, if some people want to wear it, but don't just pump it into the air willy-nilly. I'd feel the same way if the smell was Shalimar. I'd be okay with the smell of baking cookies, though....

Great review Katie! Very funny but informative. I'd like to know how they put animal bottoms in a fragrance though. And as for Mandy Moore she needs at least a reality check because she endorses Pet Armor flea prevention for pets. And as a Vet Tech myself I can say that it's a bunch of crap that doesn't work.

couldn't have summed it up better myself Katie. When best/favorite rose fragrance discussions get brought up and someone mentions Rose 31 I slap my forehead. It's barely rose. If you want Le Labo and you want rose, the Chicago exclusive Baie Rose 26 is HEAVENLY.

Definitely a great fragrance. I don't get a whole lot of rose, but I do get it. I guess that's why it's so easy to wear for men? I'm looking into trying a few others, while also still trying to track down the perfect vanilla. I've tried Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille, Guerlain's SDV, Serge Lutens' Un Bois Vanille, L'Artisan's Havana Vanille, Molinard's Vanille, as well as all of the Lavanila fragrances.

TV seems more about tobacco and spices than vanilla, SDV has that really strong cedar note that overpowers the vanilla, Un Bois Vanille is nice but very waxy, etc. I think the vanilla note in SDV is my favorite. I like the booziness of it, and the benzoin reminds me of vanilla ice cream. I'd say my perfect one would be boozy and foody (while still smelling real). I would rather it not be TOO sweet either. I'm up to try anything though! :D
