I think this was a response to all the mercury poisoning Japanese people got from eating fish caught right off their own coasts back in the early 70's. It was a horrible death for many people, so I guess they decided a godzilla public service announcement was necessary.

It's been awhile since I've seen the movie, but I think I remember it being stated that there were two Hedorah's and by the end of the movie they combined into one giant Hedorah. It's possible that the orbs Godzilla pulled out was the eyes of one of the Hedorahs.

this may be my favorite of all the Godzilla movies and its by far the weirdest but thats one of the things i love about it, this is one of those movies that kids, adults and pot heads can enjoy, lots of action, laughs and its even got a lot of horror elements, love this one.

I don't mind negative reviews; this movie clearly isn't for everyone, or humorous ones (if they're actually funny), I just hate childish reviews that don't like something because it's "weird" or challenging in a way that doesn't fit with convention, which is what makes GvSM cool!

Hedorah probably has the highest civilian bodycount in the Godzilla series, it wasn't aimed at kids, it was pretty damn dark. People getting suffocated by toxic sludge in the subway and being dissolved with sulphuric acid? I'd say it's very much not aimed at kids.
