The only reason why At&t can't handle so many smartphone users on it's network is because of the data consuming iPhone. Verizon says that their network can handle it because they don't experience too many data traffic at the moment but now that Verizon has iPhone especially with it's unlimited data plan is only a matter of time when Verizon experience it's first real network congestion...
ok im on a family plan with my uncle and grandma on a verizon plan. they both have available upgrades and i dont have mine yet. i know i can use there upgrade to get the new iphone coming out but they wont let me use theres. so can i just buy the iphone for 200 with 2 year contract and put my verizon sim card in it and work it just like that?
i suggest t verison users wait till the iphone5 comes out in june/july your gunna regret buying on outdated iphone if you plan on getting one when it first comes out
@xatmospherex I agree with you to some extent, the new Verizon iPhone 5 probably won't be that much better, besides the fact that it might be a 4G version. Just like the 3Gs VS. 3G, there wasn't that much of a difference. You have an excellent point, and like I said, I do agree with you some extent. The Iphone is pretty neat but I couldn't stand the touch typing when I had a contract with At&t. I switched over to Straight Talk a few months ago and haven't regretted it once. The networks runs on both At&t AND Verizon towers so I rarely ever get a dropped call unlike before. I picked up the recent Nokia E71 Smartphone which in my opinion is better than a blackberry. If you wanna save a buttload of money and get great coverage, switch to Straight Talk.
@RussellPhillips88 Thanks for the pointer, I really like the iPhone, and I am going to be switching to the Verizon iPhone 4, but you have a great point, the keyboard is a little hard to get used to, but once you do, you normally wouldn't have much of a problem, I didn't like it at first, but about 2 weeks after I got the iPhone, I really liked it, and got used to it.

It's not gonna cost AT&T anything it's pretty much making at&t more money for the contract to end and plus it's LTE(long term evolution) nothing close to being 4G at&t has the same thing the only thing verizon has is that hotspot if AT&T did that for the iPhone a lot of people would probably stick with

Well, all of you who said it wasn't going to happen, and that Verizon would never offer the iPhone, you were wrong. Verizon & Apple have announced the Verizon iPhone 4 in 3G and it will be available February 3rd, 2011 for existing customers and February 10th for new customers. The Verizon iPhone 4 will have 2 key features that AT&T doesn't have... WiFi Hotspot capability and Unlimited Data Plans. Plus they fixed the death grip issue, by changing the location of the antennas.
@91Trizzle not really, because Verizon's network can handle a lot more than AT&T. AT&T even said as CES2011 that their network just simply can't handle all the smartphones. Apple would let Verizon annouce it because it's not a new product it's just a new carrier. If it were the IPhone 5 then Apple would announce it. as far as the Wall Street Journal confirming it, the Wall Street Journal has said that Verizon was getting the IPhone for the past 3 years now and have always said someone close to the matter is the source, so I would buy into that theory

I've had the iPhone 4 since launch day and I do love it. I've never had any problem with my service but that could just be based on my location. I'm happy to see verizon users getting the iPhone finally. The only thing sort of strange about it is the new iPhone will be coming out a couple months later. Verizon.... Get HSPA+ like AT&T with all the benefits and you get the iPhone. The next iPhone will be on HSPA+ 21, just like T-Mobile's "4G", this year. Faster speeds than LTE (right now), longer battery, less network data consumption meaning less dropped calls, and if not in HSPA+ 21 coverage you'll go to HSPA 7.2 which whoops Verizon's EV-DO. Keep your AT&T contract, the best is yet to come for AT&T.
And how do I know what i'm talking about I worked for Att for 4 years and launched the iPhone I was acually the 3rd person in South Texas to touch and see the very first iPhone. Now I work for Verizon (better pay and i'm a store manager) and I can tell u ATT still dominates not just in Texas we see the figures once a month during strategy meetings. I love Verizon but we don't have as many customers and this was prior to iPhone, coverage is second to ATT we only win in 3G coverage sucks but true
Also do u know that in 75% of America Att owns 90% of the market share which mean pretty much they dominate the airwaves. There r lots of factors to having bad service and sometimes its as simple as so many customers and loaded up tower boxes with calls. U last only 30 min on a call after that ur call is moved to another tower to allow other calls to be fed off that box if the tower u get bumped to is full thats when u lose a call. As for bad reception that could be ur house or ur phone anything
Ahhh...where to begin first Nick why r the guts gonna be different? I'll tell u cause Att uses GSM not CDMA do u know why cause no where in the world other than here is CDMA used. Why did Apple choose att over verizon to begin with? Ur Canadian uses know cause if it was CDMA they couldn't have it. As for being a stronger network stop watching the Verizon commercials Att network is almost 2 times the size and dominates border regions which is odd u dont have good service.

First off I have a Droid. I had a iPhone before this. I had to switch so I could get better coverage. The iPhone is alot better than Droid. It's faster has better apps and is all around better phone. If it came to Verizon me and 100 million other ppl would switch to Verizon iPhone, that's the simple fact of the matter.
@SweetKooshy the only reason why apple ordered CDMA Chips is for the iPad. iPad for Verizon. As for iPhone, it will most likely not happen next year. The fact is they have court documents saying iPhone contract with AT&T is 5 years that will end in 2012. They have the opportunity to renew that contract. Trust me as much as I like the iPhone in verizon too.
@angrut The iPad doesn't have a CDMA chip in it, it has to use the MiFi box, hopefully your wrong, and yes there was a 5 year agreement, but supposedly there was something that made that void. Time will only tell, thanks so much for your input and hopefully I'm right.
iPhone sucks. I hope we don't get it. Who would want a device that has the same memory capacity, same camera, and same apps as the Droids, but has to be taken to an Apple store for all problems, loses signal when held a certain way, and charges more money for those same applications? That's what they said in 2008, 2009, and 2010 but where is it?? Apple will stick to AT&T why, because the GSM network is much more used world wide and IMO is alot more advance technology when it comes to network speeds. It's just AT&T network sucks but the technology being used by AT&T is alot better than Verizon's CDMA. Until you here it from Verizon it's not official.
answer this.. AT&T says that it could lose a million customers, so as verizon gets a million new customers, how will the towers and signal be able to handle more people?
I would have though that if apple was going to release another iphone around this time then it would be in december where more people would buy it for christmas.

@iFoshizzl AT&T sucks in my eyes. I live in one of the biggest cities in America (Philly) and I don't have service in most of downtown, around my house, or around my school campus. That's a huge, glaring issue. I'd rather have an Android phone anyway.
@NicCoventry Android opens a lot of open options that let you do just about anything that you want with the phone. The OS is diverse, strong, and capable. It looks good, is customizable, and is fun to use. It's not as seamless as iOS, but it's very good. Android also gives you many different options for hardware. You don't have to buy the same phone in one colour with two memory sizes. You can also pick your carrier. Android also sparks competition between companies to make better phones.

I've had the iPhone 4 since launch day and I do love it. I've never had any problem with my service but that could just be based on my location. I'm happy to see verizon users getting the iPhone finally. The only thing sort of strange about it is the new iPhone will be coming out a couple months later. Seems like maybe thy should wait till the new model release but still it's cool for all the verizon users.

Verizon.... Get HSPA+ like AT&T with all the benefits and you get the iPhone. The next iPhone will be on HSPA+ 21, just like T-Mobile's "4G", this year. Faster speeds than LTE (right now), longer battery, less network data consumption meaning less dropped calls, and if not in HSPA+ 21 coverage you'll go to HSPA 7.2 which whoops Verizon's EV-DO. Keep your AT&T contract, the best is yet to come for AT&T.

And how do I know what i'm talking about I worked for Att for 4 years and launched the iPhone I was acually the 3rd person in South Texas to touch and see the very first iPhone. Now I work for Verizon (better pay and i'm a store manager) and I can tell u ATT still dominates not just in Texas we see the figures once a month during strategy meetings. I love Verizon but we don't have as many customers and this was prior to iPhone, coverage is second to ATT we only win in 3G coverage sucks but true

Also do u know that in 75% of America Att owns 90% of the market share which mean pretty much they dominate the airwaves. There r lots of factors to having bad service and sometimes its as simple as so many customers and loaded up tower boxes with calls. U last only 30 min on a call after that ur call is moved to another tower to allow other calls to be fed off that box if the tower u get bumped to is full thats when u lose a call. As for bad reception that could be ur house or ur phone anything

Ahhh...where to begin first Nick why r the guts gonna be different? I'll tell u cause Att uses GSM not CDMA do u know why cause no where in the world other than here is CDMA used. Why did Apple choose att over verizon to begin with? Ur Canadian uses know cause if it was CDMA they couldn't have it. As for being a stronger network stop watching the Verizon commercials Att network is almost 2 times the size and dominates border regions which is odd u dont have good service.

First off I have a Droid. I had a iPhone before this. I had to switch so I could get better coverage. The iPhone is alot better than Droid. It's faster has better apps and is all around better phone. If it came to Verizon me and 100 million other ppl would switch to Verizon iPhone, that's the simple fact of the matter.

@SweetKooshy the only reason why apple ordered CDMA Chips is for the iPad. iPad for Verizon. As for iPhone, it will most likely not happen next year. The fact is they have court documents saying iPhone contract with AT&T is 5 years that will end in 2012. They have the opportunity to renew that contract. Trust me as much as I like the iPhone in verizon too.

@angrut The iPad doesn't have a CDMA chip in it, it has to use the MiFi box, hopefully your wrong, and yes there was a 5 year agreement, but supposedly there was something that made that void. Time will only tell, thanks so much for your input and hopefully I'm right.

iPhone sucks. I hope we don't get it. Who would want a device that has the same memory capacity, same camera, and same apps as the Droids, but has to be taken to an Apple store for all problems, loses signal when held a certain way, and charges more money for those same applications? The iPhone is nothing but marketing. The people that want iPhones don't know why they want it. I think they just want it because their friends do. I know this because I'm asked about it every day.

That's what they said in 2008, 2009, and 2010 but where is it?? Apple will stick to AT&T why, because the GSM network is much more used world wide and IMO is alot more advance technology when it comes to network speeds. It's just AT&T network sucks but the technology being used by AT&T is alot better than Verizon's CDMA. Until you here it from Verizon it's not official.

@iFoshizzl AT&T sucks in my eyes. I live in one of the biggest cities in America (Philly) and I don't have service in most of downtown, around my house, or around my school campus. That's a huge, glaring issue. I'd rather have an Android phone anyway.

@NicCoventry Android opens a lot of open options that let you do just about anything that you want with the phone. The OS is diverse, strong, and capable. It looks good, is customizable, and is fun to use. It's not as seamless as iOS, but it's very good. Android also gives you many different options for hardware. You don't have to buy the same phone in one colour with two memory sizes. You can also pick your carrier. Android also sparks competition between companies to make better phones.

Verizon hasn't tested any CDMA iPhone because they're going to be switching to gsm, I can't say when it will come out because my father who works in the company will kill me but an iPhone for verizon is coming
