  • I had no idea either that she put out a solo album....what a great surprise!

  • Cool vid!!!

  • That was wonderful!!

  • @tecdessus So I can connect with beings that feel the way I do. Or maybe I'm just idealizing the place.

  • @tecdessus Silly and smart like a Monty Python sketch, fast and irreverent like a Blur song, and sexual and anarchistic like an Anthony Burgess book. Whatcha think?

  • @tecdessus your profile says you are from Norway... how do you know what you are talking about then?

  • She is British... why is she singing about miles?

  • Britain is Imperial

  • Because we use miles? Dur.

  • Well excuse me, I've never been to Britan. Now I know, Ass.

  • this is pretty good!

  • She made a new album in 2007?, I was not aware of that until now, amazing! Love the song.

  • What a song :@)

  • Awesome song! Good job on the video, siouxsiesback. This is her new voice, image and style now get used to it. It's almost like two different people.

  • This kind of reminds me of Adam and the ants a little bit. <3

    Love Siouxsie Sioux. ^^

  • Nah Adam reminds you of Siouxsie if anything.. ;)

  • I just meant the music....

Siouxsie and the banshees are my favourite band...just the music and the ''one by mile'' reminds me of Adam ant...

  • right nah they came from the same scene is all

  • i know..

  • I loved the Banshees but could never get into the Creatures. This ain't my thing. Too bad.

  • The WOMAN RULES !

  • @bluebluud

    - You got that right !!! I get chills down my spine every time she sings...She's sensational !!!

  • Just had a "Holy Shit!" moment at 2:04, Siouxsie makes the perfect Wicked Queen!

  • I can't wait to see her this saturday,Feb 9 in NYC!!! Hail Hail The Idol

  • I was there! xD

  • Wonder why this song sounds so familiar (and soooo creature-like)?

Back track to The Creatures 1989 album: Boomerang.

Listen to the instrumental song, Solar Choir.

You'll hear One Mile Below is simply a more modern vocal version of it.

A lovely hard edge reprise, if I say so myself.

  • yes. so different yet similar

  • Isn't she the most beautiful singer ever?

1:30 I want this to be my wallpaper.

  • Most definitely, but more.A true force of nature.

  • es la excata mezcla de u2 y The cures( Es decir es madre de ambos)me encanta la estetica !!! impresionante

  • to Jordimla 1 month ago why laugh at Budgies misfortune most of us real fans think he is the king and wish him the best, you look at Siouxsie as some sort of gay icon not the music, rest of us yes i was at the 100 club 79,recently at the proms and roundhouse where was you? love the music, looking at your profile you should be gassed straight away..

  • Thanks fer posting this dude, Siouxsie Sioux is talented an still the most gorgeous Brit singer ;D

  • this sounds like U2

  • She's been living in the south-west of France since 1992.Welcome back Siouxie! If only you knew how much I love you.Now you do!

  • I like the older vocal style better

  • you go sue.. long time cuming, this woman has such a powerfull, persuasive voice, i love her lyrics and have loved her since her original band, the creatures, and am anticipating her new venture

  • Her original band?

  • hahahaha, poor budgie dumped by siouxsie for a 20 year old french model named therese leland. her new love looks very androgynous, kinda like marie fredricksson of roxette. check out the photos on pause.

  • what are you talking about???

  • What evidence do you have for this?

I tried googling the name you cite + "Siouxsie", but came up with nothing.

  • are you sure of that ?

  • The new stuff sounds great but I have to agree with the others with reference to the live dates in London only. I don't know whether she think's she wouldn't sell out a medium size place elsewhere or can't be arsed.

  • I cried when I learned she was back! But why did she wait that freakin' long before doing solo stuff?

  • Siouxsie will do JUST FINE solo!

  • Sounds awesome! Gladly I get the cd about after two weeks pass by.

  • i think if you are a sioux fan and youu dont live in london you are screwed.

  • I love it! poor Budgie...

  • Yes. Budgie was the quiet, non-confrontational one, Siouxsie the occasional ranter/raver,wine glass smasher, etc.) Hey it worked for 15 years or so, but maybe their personalties ceased complementing each other, and started repelling.

And I wonder, will we ever get to hear Budgie's side of it?

Also, I wonder what he's been up to the last 2-3 years (secret projects?) I think he loves music and drumming too much to disappear. I bet tons of musicians would love to work with him.

  • yep, it might be difficult to replay her playing just the drum! hehe I'm an argentinian and I discovererd the banshees in my early 13, very difficult to do that living so far. I remember in the '85 when they went down to gave the tinderbox tour concert and I felt that I would died of happiness at that time...

  • More like worked for 25 years or so. Budgie joined the Banshees in 1979 and I believe they were officially an item by 1981. I'm stunned that they split, they seemed like true soul mates to me. Hard to believe you could be with someone for over 25 years and then pack it in, innit?

  • True. They were married for close to 15 years, but were reportedly a pair since that first Creatures LP. Budgie even said it was that steamy photo session (now viewable by all forever)for the cover art, that first made the sparks fly! I too thought they were one of those lucky rare complementary couples likely to last forever together. The Creatures are dead, the last Banshee is banished from Sioux's musical circle. Sad, but it would be even sadder if she hadn't come up with such a good solo CD!

  • Hi Bobb! I would just like to thank you for giving me that info on "Mantaray"! It sounds like it's going to be the best record that Siouxsie's done in quite some time!

  • Hey,no problem. I hope you like the whole CD as much as I (and many others) do!

Next on the agenda: When's Siouxsie coming to our towns?

  • Part 2- Always smiling-never with a frown on/a mask of hidden tears/have the courage/to say that you mean now/and mean what you say/Heres come that day/here comes the rain on your parade/there's a price to pay/for a life of sincerity/You wanted you life uncomplicated/only pleasentries/and like a fool/you thought life could be cheated/of life's realities/Here comes that day...

  • "HERE COMES THAT DAY" Part 1- Your house of cards/is tumbling all around you/with its feet of clay/and you pretend that it doesn't matter/and that you're not scared/Heres come that day/here comes the rain on your parade/there's a price to pay/for a life of insincerity/

  • sorry for my gramma! I'm sleeping away...

  • Part 2

    Cool water/Washing over me/Wash away/Wash away/Clues of fingerprints/Forensic traces/Footsteps on an ocea bes/ Walk away/A ghost of a roar/From the dry floo/Aghost of a roar/From the sea shore/from the sea/the sea of tranquility/From the sea...

  • "Sea of Tranquility" Lyric- 1 part Cool water Washing over land Whas away- wash away Clues of fingerprints Forensics traces Footsteps on the ocean bed Walk away Walk away-walk away Sky scraping On baks of Manta ray There are more stars in the sky than grains of sand
  • This reads like the more abstract Siouxsie, doesn't it? If you have the genuine CD in your hands ('fraid I only have a torrent file, without CD bookle or album credits), could I ask you something? I'm really curious who her songwriting partners are on this one, and what musicians play on it. I wonder, could you enlighten those of us who don't know, about who gets credited besides Sioux?

  • there u go, lyris by Sioux, Evans, Jones. Steve Evans: guitar/Chralie Jones: piano, uprightbass/ Clive Dreamers: Drums and some others... I think that the most abstract lyris written by siouxsie is "Venus Sands" from the album Boomerang by the creatures... but I love it too! steal is a crime!!! LOL!

  • Thanks! So Evans and Jones are her new writing partners.

Those 3 names are unknown to me, but maybe I'll try googling them. Some of Siouxsie's lyrics are real puzzles, they're so abstract. Or sometimes I'll find I've had a completely wrong idea about a song's meaning, only to find an interview later where Sioux explains what she actually had in mind! I don't recall Venus Sands, though I have Boomerang on my pc. I'd like to get "Hai", 'cause Japanese Taiko drums get me "high"!

  • great song.

  • I love Mantaray albun but the anger is evident on it... a pity but as an artist she is amazing!

  • I love anger in music. bring it the fuck on...power!

  • thanks for posting.

    I can't wait until tomorrow,

this reminds me of Not Forgotten from The Rapture.

  • Snagging an unauthorized "sneak preview" bit torrent file of the CD today (via Demonoid), I'm now enjoying my 2nd listen. Will it grow on me? Certainly a worthwhile project, but whether it will grab me the way my fave SATB songs have remains to be seen...

Can't help feeling I like her '80s voice over her deepened '07 one.

  • Turns out the more I hear the new CD the more I like like like it! And One Mile Below is one of the better cuts. Sea of Tranquility is a standout. Others are

first rate. Siouxsie's a bit off key on a bunch of notes on One Mile Below, but I now believe it's deliberate (instead her voice failing)to create an atmosphere, 'cause she's pretty much on key on the others. Siouxsie, please come to Vancouver in '08!

  • somebody is having fun!!!! :)

  • When you hear the CD, solwolfpunk, I bet you're gonna dig it too! ...I can't help thinking many of the CD's lyrics come from her breakup with Budgie, and her "new beginning".

  • I'm not sure about that. She said something in an interview that my intuition tells me that it's not all about that (divorce). Siouxsie is never obvious. That's why we like her.

  • Well, there are some surprisingly direct lyrics like "What am I gonna do, now that I know the truth? It's loveless...How can you be so cruel?", and "If it doesn't break you, it will make you. Don't be afraid, don't shed a tear..."

She admits: "There is some anger there on the album...

I think men and women are very different and maybe we're not totally suited as partners.", and also ackowledges the starting anew aspect of the breakup apparent in some songs.

  • Well that is very interesting. I suppose it depends upon which one of Siouxsie's Gemini personalities is talking at the time.

  • Maybe that explains it: Siouxsie's of the "two heads are better than one" sign!

  • Good, "Mantaray" sounds great! But I would like to ask you, what's your fave Banshees album? (Mine's "A Kiss in the Dreamhouse"). Can you tell me how the song "Sea of Tranquility" is, because that's the song I want to hear most on the album. Thanks!

  • Well, Siouxsie described it as a kind of a "sci-fi" song in some interview. It's the longest cut on the album at 5:13.

It's mid tempo, and emphasizes piano and strings.

I haven't focused on the meaning of lyrics so much yet (there's lots of sea imagery, and she mentions the mantaray, and stars too!), but I love Sioux's vocal. It's my fave of the whole CD, at least as far as melody and vocal performance go!Fave SATB album? gee I don't know yet! I have fave songs instead.

  • Cool, thanks for the info! I heard in a review that "Sea of Tranquility" and the song "Drone Zone" blend together. Is this true?

  • Hmm, well, now I see "Sea..." is the next track right after "Drone". One doesn't lead directly into the other. There's a gap in between, but (only)the very beginning of "Sea" has a bit of resemblance to the "buzzing" sound at the end of "Drone". "Drone" is almost a novelty song, with its slightly goofy melody/vocal and chorus about the "buzz buzzing" bees. I think she may be saying bees' and people's lives have similarities, with humans too sometimes living in a hive-like "drone zone"!

  • Thanks! sounds great. A friend of mine bought "Mantaray" and she said that her favorite track on the album is the closing song "Heaven and Alchemy". What's that one like? (P.S. I really appreciate the info, it's getting me even more hyped for the album!)

  • To me, that one, last track on the CD,references the disintegrating marriage again with lyrics like:

"You're in love with the idea of me...Hard to face this deception...I'm in love with the idea of you...Things aren't quite what they seem to be...Cursed human vanity..."

A "softer edged" piano based tune.

The CD has no weak songs, but I prefer some of the others...something about a "plodding" melody on that one.

    Just one opinion!

  • Thanks, really appreciate it! Just one question. Siouxsie's going to be touring this year in support of the album, and I've been hearing rumors flying around that she's going to come to the U.S. in Spring '08. What songs would you like to be on the set list? I hope she mixes some well-known stuff like "Israel" and "Christine", with lesser-known stuff like "Dazzle". (Just one more song question, could you tell me about the song "If It Doesn't Kill You". I heard it's great!)

  • Sure I'd be for hearing Dazzle and Israel too. I like 'em both. I'd be content to hear lots of Mantaray, and maybe at least one song from each earlier album, in a 3 hour concert!

Yes, IIDKY , one of the CD's better songs, starts as a soft edged piano one, nice melody, then it has some sudden dramatic guitar surprises, and ends with inspired distorted guitar noise! I'm guessing it's another angle on the bust-up: Being hopeful about her new life.

  • You are so gracious! Have you ever seen SATB/Creatures live? I nearly was able to see solo Siouxsie live for "Dreamshow" in Chicago but it was impossible to get into the city because traffic that day really sucked. What's your favorite SATB/Creatures song? My fave Banshees song is "Obsession" and my fave Creatures song is "You!" from Boomerang.

  • I too missed 4 Vancouver chances. A fan in the late '70s, I owned "The Scream". In early '80s I dug the 1st singles LP (Spellbound, Arabian Knights, Love in Void, Israel, HK Garden). But I lost track, only rediscovering her the past year. I like "Best Of"-CD2's extended mixes: Stargazer, Kiss Them for Me, Dazzle. Dear Prudence is a fave Sioux vocal. "Cat Walk"'s fun 'cause S. & I are both cat devotees, and "Sea of Light"'s subject: dying/after death experience - many more!

  • ten years later '95 I had the opportunity to saw them again and now I'm waiting for the concert in London, where I moved, on the 19th october... pity that they splet when they did so well, ce' la vie! my prefer Banshees song are Jigsaw feelings, Painted bird, Melt, Red light, Pull to bits, Somethig blue, Lullaby, wow tons!

  • You're lucky to be in London now, 'cause Siouxsie will always include your city in any tour. Some of us elsewhere have to just hope, 'cause it's not a sure thing! She said in an interview she's considering moving back to central London, from France. I agree, there's so many of her songs that are very appealing!

  • Sat. Sept 8/07:

It's earliest official release date is Sept. 10 in the UK (Sept. 17 in the US), but today I see some bit torrent file sharing sites already have an advance (b**tl*g) copy of Mantaray available, as of several hours ago! I'm just downloading it now.

  • A bit Bow Wow Wow...?

  • Liking this track...Thanks for putting it up.

  • i find her voice is sounding differently than years ago. as if she haden't full control.

my favorite couple split up. but do they still work together??

  • OMFG I love this song, I have in my pc right now this song *_*!!!!!!

  • is is true siouxsie and budgie are no longer a couple and are now divorced?

  • Sadly, it is. She confirmed in an interview

  • The internet isnt that below her radar believe me, she surprised us all with a message on Limewire and any other file sharing site with a personal video introducing the 12" remix of Into A Swan.

  • You lucky....she looked so beautiful and you looked so cute with her.

  • love it but siouxsie will be mad. who's going to the siouxsie signing of Mantaray on 12th sept at HMV Oxford st 6pm?

  • whoever posted this. beware of siouxsie! she can be angry with you.

  • Her Royal High Darkness will not notice this. The internet is beneath her radar. I wouldn't worry about her seeing this. She still uses a dictaphone. LOL Maybe she still uses an abacus too. We can be evil minions all we like. I welcome Hell.BTW Awesome song. She is the best. That is so true.

  • awesome.Where the hell is the song released??? I've been all over the net trying to purchase it. Damn!

  • I love it! this song brought her back as strong as ever!

  • I love it! love her!

  • I don't understand why more people aren't catching this.Subscribe to the tag "Siouxsie".

  • Well,'til the album gets released, this is all we have.We are blessed.

  • if siouxsie saw this i hope u kno she would kill you hahahahahaha

  • LOL.I wouldn't mind :)

  • It would be a pleasant death :)

  • I love this,more than Into A Swan.Welcome back,Siouxsie.
