I'm not sure why Porsche is planning on creating a baby boxster based on the BlueSport. By offering 2 different mid-engine roadsters, the BlueSport and Boxster will compete with each other. After all, you only buy a Boxster b/c you are unable/unwilling to pay for a 911. If buyers can buy a mid-engine roadster Porsche that costs less than the Boxster, they will. To bring in more buyers, Porsche should instead develop a front-engine 4-pot coupe like the 944.

@juliop14 Fair enough. Here is why I think it is German enough: An efficient car that provides fun - very rational (hence German). I have a regular Polo TDI - a light car with 3 cylinder diesel with its low rev torque - amazing. Combined with the basic sanity of reaching the end of the world on a tank of gas. Yes yes it does not compare to ripping around race-tracks in 911s but zipping around the countryside bends (which most of us are reduced to daily if we are completely honest) - brilliant :)

Porsche should seriously consider taking the BlueSport format and bringing back the 914 with some retro styling cues and an emphasis on efficiency. Plus, more cars with lower co2 emissions in their line up means they could afford to make even more powerful cars in the top end of their market.

Deisel engines have more torque than gas. Even if they put a 2.0T gas engine in it, you wouldn't be red-lining it to make more power. All VW has to do to make it comparable to a gas engine of similar size is change the gearing so it's taller.

yeah but with 180bhp it has more power than any petrol mx5 and if you do go for the petrol you will be able to have a 200bhp+ 2ltr turbo and a 250bhp 3.2ltr v6.
