  • oh this is beautiful val! :)

    V.

  • Calidad!

  • @masterkuprij

    Merci ;-)

  • Valéry, your lute sounds very rich and deep. I've visited Jarny homepage because I'm going to buy one 13-course lute like you from this maker and I have one doubt. Is it your instrument a student lute or it is part of the "luths de concert" that Didier Jarny offers ? Sorry for my bad english, I'm from València (spain).

  • @toni88vp

    Hello Toni,

This is a student lute, difference is mostly on decoration.

Tell Didier you come from me, he is a good friend ;-)

    Val

  • @Luthval thanks Val. I'm very interested in that instrument. Looks like a real high quality lute with an affordable price. Thanks!

  • @toni88vp Of course it is a good deal !

    V.

  • Wonderful! Your lute has a very rich, warm sound to it! Many thanks for posting this!

  • Thank you very much !

    Val

  • @Luthval Who made your lute, how old is it and what strings are you using? Gut? I've never heard a baroque lute sound so warm.

  • Beatiful interpretation!!

  • Thank you very much ;-)

    Best regards

    Val

  • What is the regular tempo for this composition?

  • There is no "regular" tempo for a prelude, it is played at the will of the musician (except those with a special indication like Bach Presto prelude.) So play it faster or slower if you like... ;-)

    Regards

    Val

  • Best version i have come a cross! You are a very talented musician! Thank You for this!

  • Thanks for listening!

    Salutations

    valéry

  • Your other version was very good but this one is perfect. Very smooth and a nice ambiance. How do you do it? So many videos on so many instruments, my progress moves at a snail's pace compared to you. Bravissimo!

  • Thanks a lot ;-)

Do you use the method by Miguel Serdoura for the baroque lute ? very good one, and many beautiful pieces into it...

    Val

  • I'm planning to get that method one of these days, I've heard a lot of good stuff about it, thanks! I've been working on my CG a lot lately so when I do get around to playing the BL it's like where is my thumb? What course am I playing? haha I get bored with the simple stuff and go straight to the Weiss, which hinders my progress but learning the hard way just seems to be my style with CG, BL and everything else in life! At least I'm having fun though.

  • Yes BL is exclusive..., and Weiss too. Just play some Baron or Kropffganss sometimes, but back to Weiss (and Bach... but this is special...)

    V.

  • With Weiss - who knew Bach - you can really hear how a certain musical language (gestures, harmony, form, etc.) was not the sole property of one composer :-) Thank you for this.

  • Thanks for your comment, I agrre with your analysis.

    Regards

    val

  • Thanks a lot ;-)

    Amicalement,

    Valéry

  • Yes I did post another version before, this is v2... (better I hope)

    Val ;-)

  • Ah excellent!

I love Weiss. Nice to listen to you again (I have been away from YouTube for a while).

    Best,

    Jo

  • Hi Jo, hope your doing fine !

    V. ;-)

  • Beautiful! I can't think of another word for your playing and the pieces you choose, Luthval. --Bette

  • Thanks a lot ;-)

    Val

  • C'est un bijou un peu "indiscret"... (Diderot) car très intimiste et "parlant" au coeur ! Encore une pièce qui donne envie de jouer du luth baroque ! 5 étoiles ! Bravo, cher Valéry !

    Bien amicalement,

    Roger

  • Merci Roger ;-)

    Amicalement

    Val

  • I love this piece so much!!!

    Beautiful sound and interpretation!!!

    Cesar Amaro

  • Thanks a lot Maestro César ;-)

    Best regards

    Valéry

  • once again, you never cease to amaze me val.

    best regards!

    Tanner

  • Thanks !

    Val

  • I love this piece so much.... and Weiss in my opinion is the best baroque lute composer I've heard - the works seem to have something more in them than Bach, not much more, but a little. I guess he was more used to the instrument.

Very well played, I too have played the guitar version which is pretty fiendish (at least it was when I played it a year ago...).

    Jamie

  • Hello Jamie,

In fact Bach was not a lute player... and Weiss was the best luteninst of his time (and they were friends...) Bach had many lute players in his circle, but his works for lute (or so called) was not write on the instrument.

    ;-)

    Val

  • Really? I'd heard that he owned two lutes and three lute-harpsichords and was very fond of them. But I don't know at all for certain.

  • Some of his students played lute, but himself ? Lautenwerk, of course, as he was a great keyboard player. The "so called" lute suites are more writed for keyboard than for lute.

    V.

  • I've always wanted to hear this played on the lute. I'm only familiar with the Frederick Noad arrangement for guitar, which is not the easiest piece to play. It actually "looks" much easier on the lute. Possibly because so many of the bass notes are open strings. Thanks for this video.

  • Of course Weiss's music is writen for the lute, so easyer on this instrument (but you have to find the good basses, and that is not easy sometimes ;-) )

    Thanks,

    val
