  • They have such an interesting culture!

  • I assume the hair-dying is just for the festival, because you said it was kind of uncommon/looked down upon... But any particular reason why?

  • Have you considered doing a video on Coming of Age Day event they have in Japan?

Or did you do one and I haven't found it yet.

  • so, someone give me 1 reason NOT to live in Japan? I can't seem to find any :)

  • @Penguinsmacker0 ghosts....

  • @Mikarojla not good enough :P

  • 1 person who disliked this video died moments later from a random Parade through their home.

  • Having seen an eldery woman you focused on I recalled a short story The Youth Who Came Late from Kenzaburo Oe. Do nowadays elderly people carry feelings and expecriances during US occupation over a new generation? As to recent celebration of the end of WWII among all countries, e.g. Russia have glorified hohour and braveness of Soviet Union as such instead of metioning all those people who had died in vain. Does it same happen in Japan? Is the history interpreted without "skips"?

  • When i'm awake.. not much happens. When i'm try'na get some sleep.. something mesmerising like this happens

  • thanks for the videos

one of my favorite pastimes now

  • I am Native American and Love how they values towards each other is like ours love the unity and respect.

  • i like how even the teens participate in this.here in my country you´d get laughed at and only thinking of it pisses me off immensly

  • What I loved most was that I had absolutely no clue what was going on....and loved every minute of it

  • When I went onto this video, i was like, "oh god, 15 minutes!? Well i'll just watch the first bit..."

    15 minutes later

    "Isn't there any more!!"

    ^_^

  • I love how everyoen works together. That is very Japanese! what is the name of this festival? and i would be incredibly grateful if anyone could translate the chanting. Thank you!

  • Great video! I wonder what was up with the colored hair do's...

  • Are mohawks "frowned upon" like other countries do in Japan or are they more "relaxed" about it? Last festival video I also saw a few mohawks. I wonder since I got a hawk myself. -=)

  • whats up with the colored and stylised hairdos ? any special meaning or just trendy at the festival?

    awesome video as always :)

  • elvis hair at 13:29 xD

  • gotta love 4x sped up akb48 songs lol (12:20 and on)

  • Looks like fun.

  • lol to all my Hetalia lovers, did you notice the America laugh at 2:12 ?

  • seerai (/what they're shoting) means?

  • Why were they singing AKB's song?

The leader of parade has important role for fun, and safe festival.

It is to lead an omikoshi.

    Omikoshi means portable shrine.

and it is more important that each member of the parade obeys to the leader.

    (・ω・)

  • I love your narrated videos, but this was a delight to watch as well!

  • Liked this video, but would also like you to go talk with people add add translated captions. Yes, I can be picky!

  • This is a wonderful thing. I enjoy watching this. In Canada, well, North America, there aren't many things like this. When first nations do their celebrations and ceremonies, they are usually in their reservations, not so much a local thing. Also, the youth here aren't so kind to those kinds of things, and put them down which is upsetting because they are wonderful things. Great video!

  • Is there a video about why Japanese people always have there arms behind the backs?

  • There's the white gloves again hehe :-p

  • Best Video ever. Lov it..

  • are they wearing happi's?

  • Does the festival have a name? Where is it taking place?

    Thx for answers ;)

  • Nice raw video! curious..why do some of the people pulling the rope have crazy colored hair?

  • I guess that was someone you knew at 14:30?

  • Wow I loved this one. it was really interesting being able to hear everything. Thanks. Your great :)

  • nice vid love it!

  • I don't even have to watch your videos to know if I'm going to like them or not ^_^ That's why I automatically click "like" before I even press play!

  • @gohanDaniel1 lolz! I saw him too! :D

  • This is almost like getting to travel there to see it. What fun! Thank you.

  • please keep making more raw videos there epic!

  • must be fun to ride atop that thing :P

  • the guy in 12:06 has awesome hair

  • racism exist in japan????

  • @karusin11 there ain't a place on earth where ain't

  • @karusin11 i would say its xenophobia

  • It's a religious festival, right?

  • @HitmarkJ No, Spring Equinox Day (shunbun no hi) is a festival that celebrates the end of winter and the beginning of spring. I believe during this 7 day period many families also visit graves.

There is a similar holiday (although not officially) called setsubun, which is celebrated at temples nationwide.

  • @jonnymohawk Oh! thanks man.

  • Aah, a long video!

  • Are they yelling "Santa, Santa"? =)

  • @Beethoven1981 sounds like it lol but im sure is not =P

  • @Beethoven1981 No I think they actually say "Se-no, se-no (せーの)"! which roughly means "Heave-ho!" :)

  • 1 person can't go to the parade :P

  • This would be a VERY welcome addition the the world famous Calgary Stampede parade! (although I'm not sure if those massive wooden structures would feet under some traffic signals) Loved this!! The drumming tied everything together and was totally EPIC!!

  • Thumbs up if you watched the entire video and wanted to see more, even if you don't understand a word of Japanese!

  • You don't have to "shut up" lol We enjoy all your humorous insights and narrations :)

  • Silly Youtube! I keep losing my subscription! Good thing I bookmarked the channel page! :D

  • TOO COOL!

  • Great video

  • Awh! Those kids look like they're having so much fun. Shame we don't have anything like that where I live. We only have things like once a year here. =x

  • Where in Japan was this festival?

  • That was great! It's such a contrast of old and new--matsuri as you see it depicted on old folding screens now set in a modern town, kids with Koolaid colored hair. Fantastic!

  • one guy doesnt understand japanese...

  • Nice festival ^_^

  • aitakatta aitakata

  • So much more interesting than American festivals!

  • That is so cool!

  • This video was so awesome, thank you! Keep up the good work :)

  • Awesome video, which city is this in?

  • LOve your videos but you might want to output to 16:9

  • this looks so much fun.....i wish i was there...

    japanese tradition are so amazing.

  • I like how you were towering over everyone lol.

  • For this kind of video, raw style rules!

  • AWSOME :D

    From canada :0)

  • You forgot to say More videos coming soon. ;o)

  • Wow those hairstyles give anime a run for its money.

  • It reminds me of an Anime for some reason >_<!

  • 1:36 amazing... how 2 people with sticks can calm down and stop the crowd.

  • @liberty1211 what you didn't see at 1:36 they were calming the crowd with the sticks, they were summoning the great master ME in the back

  • So what is it they're chanting, does anyone know?

  • Are festival was canceled here in little Tokyo :(

  • Where in japan was this if you dont mind me asking :D?

  • truly an amazin site to see Such tradition and fun they have XD

  • i have one word for this: AWESOME!

  • i liked the video because its a great video.

i think we've come to expect some narration in your videos.

there were some questions i had and i think you would have chimed in with a little insight.

  • By the way, I loved the "raw" style, not to say I don't appreciate your narration, which I think is quite good as well.

  • Looks like great fun, it would be interesting to know a bit of history on how this spring festival came about, or when it was first celebrated. Then again I suppose one could search for the answer. Great video though, thank you.

  • It's amazing how clean the streets are no matter how many people are on them. You gather the slightest crowd on the streets of some other countries and the aftermath will be: trash everywhere but in the trash can.

  • GOD This video was so amazing! I absolutely loved it. I really felt like I was there! (Well almost! xD) <3

  • Awesome.

  • I wanted to dance with them at 9:40 Dx !

  • mm I want come to Japan now..... so expensive , this looks great though :)

  • I saw some girls with bright orange hair, and I remembered someone on youtube saying that only Japanese celebrities/idols dye their hair, and normal girls just have it black. Now I know that's not true..!

  • @paxxiwai no its not just celebrities , they might have told you that because students arn't really suppose to dye their hair especially that color. but they normally dye it brown.

  • Wow whats up with all the facial masks??? :O Great video as always :)

  • @Valentine1507 germs.

  • Awesome video. I hope these beautiful traditions will remain for many generations to come, lovely to see the kids and young people actively take part. It's rare these days to see the community come together to do something nice. Festivals are not just about getting wasted and being wild.

  • looks so fun & kawaii!

  • What do the symbols on the shirt represent? a clan? a province?

  • i would love to go to those festivals XD

  • Do japanese schools get a week off, like march break or some sort of spring break?

  • This is very neat!! I bet it is fun to watch something like this happen. Thank you so much for posting all these videos for us here at YouTube =) I can only imagine how much time out of your day you take to film these and get them ready to post. We all greatly appreciate it and I always look forward to more everyday =)

  • @Ditre : Indeed I'm a huge fan of anime but still I would love to see the festivals, food, the culture, and much more in person then watching it on youtube and on TV.

  • @Ditre Tru that XD

  • Japanese people have an awesome spirit!

Where I live, no one would do that! And if they did

they probably just get drunk! Thanks again for a great vid! XD

  • @Ultipandazimo Exactly in my country kids are like wtf when there is a festival they just go there cuz they want to get drunk.I can't even compare japanese festivals to ours->Japan automatically Wins

  • OMG i want to live in japan SOO bad! i just love the culture and language. (and japanese girls are HOT lol) i wanna take a small trip before i go to collage. so many things to do so little time!

  • @TreyWestlyGray I think the reason to me why Japanese girls are attractive is they DO NOT dress like tramps at least compared to there american counterparts.

  • This made my day. I love to see people celebrating! :)

  • at what part of Japan is this festival located at???

  • Love these raw videos! Wish you would do more of them. I love hearing the sounds of the Japanese people.

  • Are the spring festivals analogous to the local and state/country fairs that happens in the US and UK?

  • This was really cool to wake up to! I hope you do more raw footage like this. :D

  • Thanks for sharing. I like parades too. What do those towers represent?

  • Ive just got a Japanese festival top xD

  • As a conservative man in Kyoto, I would have to say that the AKB48 song young people sang at 12:20 is inappropriate for this kind of festival.

  • LET'S enjoy this Spring Festival :-)

  • I am loving that one group of guys with the crazy hair colors! They looked like they were having all sorts of fun!

  • Oh how I love a parade!

  • LET'S enjoy this video

  • @itachikiller107 Happy time!

  • i really adore the festival garments they wear. its soo cool.

  • Where in Japan is this?

  • They all looks so small and squishy

  • looks really cool whats that festval is called ?

  • I just wish the UK had epic festivals like this, must be a great atmosphere! I always loved going to Spain and seeing their colourful local festivals when I was younger.

  • Well, it's often said that the commoners do not care if they win or lose the war, only that it ends. I can't imagine that the people in this small town were any more savage than they are now (and they certainly don't look like savages now).

  • Thanks for the footage.

I always wake up to a new video of yours. XD

  • Don't cross the woman at 3:39. She'll end you.

  • @darinhagre she really looks like an old samurai master. With a hidden katana in that bamboo stick of hers.

  • Looks fun, I wanna join.

  • Stranage yet interesting.

  • this people are the CORE of japan. I 'like to see this vds cause they show the other japan, unknown to europe (just tokio is known, but big cities does not represente a country).

  • Do they build new shrines every year or do they store them somewhere?

  • LOL this is a very very very small town festival. Cannot be compared with the huge festivals I saw in Kyoto and Osaka.

    ===

You wonder how come this nation of sweet geeks (in a positive way of course) could have been so savage, only 70 years ago. It's all about education, I suppose... How can you not love them ?
