Having seen an eldery woman you focused on I recalled a short story The Youth Who Came Late from Kenzaburo Oe. Do nowadays elderly people carry feelings and expecriances during US occupation over a new generation? As to recent celebration of the end of WWII among all countries, e.g. Russia have glorified hohour and braveness of Soviet Union as such instead of metioning all those people who had died in vain. Does it same happen in Japan? Is the history interpreted without "skips"?
I love how everyoen works together. That is very Japanese! what is the name of this festival? and i would be incredibly grateful if anyone could translate the chanting. Thank you!
Are mohawks "frowned upon" like other countries do in Japan or are they more "relaxed" about it? Last festival video I also saw a few mohawks. I wonder since I got a hawk myself. -=)
This is a wonderful thing. I enjoy watching this. In Canada, well, North America, there aren't many things like this. When first nations do their celebrations and ceremonies, they are usually in their reservations, not so much a local thing. Also, the youth here aren't so kind to those kinds of things, and put them down which is upsetting because they are wonderful things. Great video!
@HitmarkJ No, Spring Equinox Day (shunbun no hi) is a festival that celebrates the end of winter and the beginning of spring. I believe during this 7 day period many families also visit graves.
There is a similar holiday (although not officially) called setsubun, which is celebrated at temples nationwide.
This would be a VERY welcome addition the the world famous Calgary Stampede parade! (although I'm not sure if those massive wooden structures would feet under some traffic signals) Loved this!! The drumming tied everything together and was totally EPIC!!
Awh! Those kids look like they're having so much fun. Shame we don't have anything like that where I live. We only have things like once a year here. =x
That was great! It's such a contrast of old and new--matsuri as you see it depicted on old folding screens now set in a modern town, kids with Koolaid colored hair. Fantastic!
Looks like great fun, it would be interesting to know a bit of history on how this spring festival came about, or when it was first celebrated. Then again I suppose one could search for the answer. Great video though, thank you.
It's amazing how clean the streets are no matter how many people are on them. You gather the slightest crowd on the streets of some other countries and the aftermath will be: trash everywhere but in the trash can.
I saw some girls with bright orange hair, and I remembered someone on youtube saying that only Japanese celebrities/idols dye their hair, and normal girls just have it black. Now I know that's not true..!
@paxxiwai no its not just celebrities , they might have told you that because students arn't really suppose to dye their hair especially that color. but they normally dye it brown.
Awesome video. I hope these beautiful traditions will remain for many generations to come, lovely to see the kids and young people actively take part. It's rare these days to see the community come together to do something nice. Festivals are not just about getting wasted and being wild.
This is very neat!! I bet it is fun to watch something like this happen. Thank you so much for posting all these videos for us here at YouTube =) I can only imagine how much time out of your day you take to film these and get them ready to post. @Ditre : Indeed I'm a huge fan of anime but still I would love to see the festivals, food, the culture, and much more in person then watching it on youtube and on TV.
@Ultipandazimo Exactly in my country kids are like wtf when there is a festival they just go there cuz they want to get drunk.I can't even compare japanese festivals to ours->Japan automatically Wins
OMG i want to live in japan SOO bad! i just love the culture and language. (and japanese girls are HOT lol) i wanna take a small trip before i go to collage. so many things to do so little time!
@TreyWestlyGray I think the reason to me why Japanese girls are attractive is they DO NOT dress like tramps at least compared to there american counterparts.
I just wish the UK had epic festivals like this, must be a great atmosphere! I always loved going to Spain and seeing their colourful local festivals when I was younger.
Well, it's often said that the commoners do not care if they win or lose the war, only that it ends. I can't imagine that the people in this small town were any more savage than they are now (and they certainly don't look like savages now).
this people are the CORE of japan. I 'like to see this vds cause they show the other japan, unknown to europe (just tokio is known, but big cities does not represente a country).
LOL this is a very very very small town festival. Cannot be compared with the huge festivals I saw in Kyoto and Osaka.
===
You wonder how come this nation of sweet geeks (in a positive way of course) could have been so savage, only 70 years ago. It's all about education, I suppose... How can you not love them ?
@amir64 Well, it's often said that the commoners do not care if they win or lose the war, only that it ends. I can't imagine that the people in this small town were any more savage than they are now (and they certainly don't look like savages now).

Why were they singing AKB's song?
The leader of parade has important role for fun, and safe festival.
It is to lead an omikoshi.
Omikoshi means portable shrine.
and it is more important that each member of the parade obeys to the leader.
