8 years ago I woke up at 4 AM and drove to the airport to try and catch Ronnie when he landed in my country.
I cought him just off the plane. It was my first time to meet him after Ive heard his music for 20 years. He was so casual and down to earth, he took the Dream Evil record I brought with me and signed it "RJD Magic".
God damit Ronnie, you should have stayed with us man.
The Dio rules! I went in a concert that he did in Brazil in 2006 or 7, maybe. But... in this video, he looks like Bill Nighy in the Shaun of the Dead.
I grew up on a diet of RJD from Elf through Rainbow and on to Sabbath and his creation of Dio itself and remember being told to 'Stand up and Shout' from the front row, still in my teens. The man was larger than the sum of his talents and his voice rode higher than any metal mastery could imagine and lifted all the true fans to a different place. It was a sad day when Ronnie was rudely called to leave us all and we miss him, still...the greatest rock vocal in history; we miss you man.

Were all born upon the cross you know its the throw before the toss, you can release yourself but the only way to go is down... does that sound christian to you? and the devil horns came from his grandmother, she would make those to ward off evil spirits in the household he grew up in , the italian equilvent of knocking on wood... everyone is entitled to their perceptions i guess.

@richieboye ~ there is a lot of mysticism in dio's lyrics, just because he would rarely touch on something in passing hardly amounts to "christian music". "the last in lines" lyrics are abstract at best. lol, i don't see much diff in people saying dio's playing for god now than a million rednecks saying the same thing about dale earnhardt racing cars for jesus. it's the programmed response of intellectual laziness.

my Aunt died of cancer in 2001. she was a lieutenant colonel in the US army. Ronnie James Dio died of cancer who was a legendary metal singer. goes to show the MANY people who are very different, fighting and dying by this curse. i pray for both of them because not only do i enjoy Dio's music, i can relate to the pain of loosing someone precious to cancer. \m/ rest in peace metal god!
