The characters may have just been made for dancing, and have to look good dancing to any song. Try a few different songs, I'm sure it will look perfectly synced to a few of them..

This song is pretty awful. And I don't see what is wrong with the graphics of the game. If you're looking for graphic power look elsewhere. The DS is meant for entertainment, not to prove a point.
