  • Drummer Plus10. No breaks, no cymbals, just as tight as hell. yeah!!!!! almost impossible to drum a track without using a cumbal or a break during 5 minutes for a drummer.

  • What?! Pete Townsend couldn't do a tune like this with The Who? I wonder why. Oh well...

  • I love the part that Townshend's daughter sings... her part in this mix makes it!!

  • his daughter cannot sing and sucks

  • @beelzabubba .. I agree ... I would like to hear more from her.

  • That harmonica at 2:29 just swings like there's no tomorrow.

  • höre den Song nach bestimmt 15 Jahren wieder das erste Mal. Er explodiert in mir.

    Unglaublich.

  • It looks like these people had a blast while shooting this. Pure party!

  • Is that Oates moonlighting on trumpet at 0:40?

  • If this doesnt get you up and dancing...youre a corpse LOL

  • the bass line makes the song

  • Killer song!

  • check out the side singers -cool

  • Someone knows something about the accusations of pedophilia some time ago against the old Pete?

  • @Polica40

Pete was CLEARED of doing anything wrong, though he was still made to be on an "offenders list" for five years thereafter anyhow. But there was absolutely nothing on his computers they took to analyse and he told them (the authorities) beforehand why he was going on that search for stories about abused children as research for a book about his own childhood trauma of being molested by his m. grandmother.

  • @masquesandmirrors Thank you for setting the record straight.

  • @Polica40 Why are we talking about this?

  • Bad Ass tune! I remember this one from Miami Vice..These "Pirates" have some soul

  • You got that right! Bad Ass it be!

  • the best band and the best Pete Townshend!!!!!

  • Freakin' AWESOME!!! : ) *****

  • Emma's tip titled nose ,so cute....Great hectic song....

  • Great song! And great to see Pete and daughter Emma.

  • exelente tema para no dejar de bailar

  • Comment removed

  • If you notice, he gives Emma a little tap with that conductors que.

  • Absolutely one of Pete Townsend's masterpieces during his tenuous solo career. EVERY instrument in-tune, insynch, perfectly balanced with vocals, percussions, horns and strings. Magnificent!

  • pete and his daughter

  • Damn! working the hell out of that base player!

  • Pete is so cute and so silly! Ha HA!

    5 stars! Kicking and awesome!!!!!!!!

  • ABSOLUTELY quinessential Pete Townsend!. Delving into his blues jazz background he captures the mood, the spirit and time of the big band era!

  • @davcomcj, he's also delving in to his parents' background. Both performed in big bands so Pete grew up surrounded by that music. This is a terrific update to that kind of sound and excitement. Extra cool that Emma, his daughter, is on stage with him -- that makes it three generations playing the music.

  • If anybody knows who those backup singers are I'd luv to know. I find myself watching this clip over and over because the one on the left is a pretty lady. Can't take my eyes off her

  • pete's daughter

  • His Back Up band in this kind of looks like the Hong Kong Cavaliers. Guess Buckaroo was taking it easy that month.

    - The Klingon Music Lover

  • I think those back up singers are great!... anyone know who they are?

  • WHO IS THAT CHARACTER WHO PLAYED THE HARMONICA??? I don't know why the harmonica wasn't put to much (if any) use on the LP's/CD's.

  • @197623scot A year late, but that's Peter Hope-Evans. He played on a bunch of Townshend's solo work.

  • Already mentioned but the woman singing at the beginning is Emma, Pete's daughter. Got her looks from her lovely mother, Karen.

If memory serves, he pulled Emma out of the audience, to satirize Springsteen.

Worth mentioning that both of Pete's parents performed in big bands so he grew up hearing that music and got into rock when he saw the film 'Rock Around The Clock' many times. This song and the others written for 'Deep End' are a natural marriage of the two influences.

  • Who is the Young lady that sings at the beginning?

    - The Klingon Music Lover

  • I think that is Townsends daughter. I remember when this came out years ago and MTV said that.

  • How very 80's is this video ahahahaha WTF Pete lol good song though first time i have seen this video LMAO

  • That song was MADE FOR live performance.

  • I think it was made to be sealed in concrete and never heard again...

  • You should be sealed in concrete so we don't have to ever hear from you, you stupid cunt. Bet you don't even play any type of instrument except maybe the skin flute. BITCH!!!!!

  • Woah!! repressed emotions much?

I think Daddy didn't love you. LOL

  • 1:16 ¿is he Billy Idol?

  • I remember watching this video on the music channel in the morning before high school back in 84 or 85. The feeling of fun, rhythm and excitement woke me out of my usual morning stupor.

  • Great jazzy song i was a teen when this came out awesome, why yall argueing come on

  • What a jam. Gives me chills.

  • Me too. I LOVE it.

  • Man its good to see this video again' I was in college when this came out. This was just one of them flat out OLD FASHION JAM SESSIONS.

  • Pero que gran tema , es emocionante delirante ,sin duda uno de mis favoritos .

  • ¡Tremendo tema, increíble swing!... un súper clásico de los 80's

Tremendous tune, incredible swing!... a super 80's classic

  • Jimi hendrix is garbage, especialy when compared to Pete Twonsend.

  • do not talk shit shit HENDRIX was a fucking genius .. PETE would admit he is not there yet,,

HENDRIX never did any shit at all,, Pete has made mistakes shall we say with his music ,,

  • how old are you now? (: only thing that impressed me was that he played backwards. Hendrix is dead and he was loaded on lsd all the time.

  • slip kid's obviously on the pay roll and an ameaba to boot so there's no objectivity there,, another creep

  • excuse me? You dont know what youre breaching anymore. dont promote me as being a creep you arse licker.(the guy was way overrated, he wrote 3 or 4 albums and he had a few that i liked. then he died, god man i liked hendrix when i was a 6th grader just like everyone else. just jump on the band waggon why dont you.

  • so your a yank ?,, that explains a lot,, Pete was a great rhythm guitarist just ahead of Lennon who was under rated, but heres the league table lard arse,,Roy Buchanan, Link Wray, Guitar Slim, Pee Wee Crayton, Hubert Sumlin, Stevei R V, John Renbourn. Richard Thompson, Lonnie Mack, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck , John McLaughlin ,, Lowell Fulson

,, Mike Bloomfield,, Dick Dale,, Peter Green,, Fred Sonic Smith,, Wayne Kramer,, Glenn Ross Campbell

,, Ry Cooder,,, Jeff Cotton (Beffheart),,

  • then throw Pete in somewhere as a dynamic innovative rhythm merchant,, like an old wrestler who does a lot of shouting and dressing up crazy but very little ground breaking ideas or invention,, now get off to school for that there book learning hillbilly boy !!

  • Yeah a yank. Yes those are some really good guitar players and sure Pete would fit some where in their. But i was really only talking about how hendrix was overrated. Where are you from britain?

  • this article is a relation,, an arse licker,,

  • A lot of people confuse innovation with genius. I'd give hendrix a 10 out of 10 for innovation for his time and his style is still influential today but as a guitarist, he can't compare to many that have come after him. That doesn't mean his influence is overrated, it just means that as a guitarist compared to many that followed, he was limited. He deserves to be in the top 100 just not number 1.

  • Yes exactly. I shouldnt compare either. there really couldnt be a number one in my mind...

  • 2:26 the look that the backup singer gives when the guy gets up on stage. like, mmmm young man!!

  • Pete is a great muso. Rolling stone magazine rate him in the top 100 guitarists of all time. I read somewhere that he used to get quite upset at how inferior his guitar playing was to Jimmy Hendrix. Personally I think he's a better guitarist than Jimmy - certainly a better musician. Jimmy couldn't even set his guitar on fire properly (woodstock). This vid shows that even without his guitar, Pete is a great musician.

  • Uh, Jimi didn't burn his guitar at Woodstock; he did it at Monterey Pop.

  • oh, ok - thanks :-)

  • I didn't know that Nick Cage had an album?

  • lol :-)

  • hahaha

  • have to agree...Nicholas Cage IS a ringer for Pete Townshend...

  • hehe =)

  • TOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Pippbox Germany

  • this song and similar, were music. For you could sing it, dance to it, turn it up loud etc..., and you wouldn't need a drug to get it. I'm pretty sure, this is from 1985, oh the 80's...give me those days again. New nothing of terrorism, people seem to be nicer, just everything of the 80's was good. Thanks for putting on the clip, 5/5.

  • Petes daughter was so cute, I actually dated a girl that looked like her, and her cute as hell to. we used to dance to this song and she would lip synch the opening. What a great song and video...thanks for the memories.

  • Do you think that Pete could have used a nose job (sorry, Michael Jackson!) early in his adult life, before his band The Who were famous?

  • Comment removed

  • Natalia por siempre tu y solo tu!

    I love you!

  • THis was an AWESOME Song

I use to watch this Video on America's Top 10 w/Casey Kasem, New York HOT Tracks and Night Tracks on SuperStation WTBS (Now TBS)

    God Bless Pete Townsend

Now THIS is Old School unlike some of the music that we got going on now, especially all that Gangsta Rap that these Young Adults and Teens would ratehr hear.

  • That is Pete's daughter singing and dancing with him.

Listen to that bass line and tell me this man is not a "top of the rock artist list".

    So many great albums.

But try this. Listen to Baba O'Reily with headphones on. Really listen.

Your ears and brain will thank you

  • Pete Townshend is a genius. He is a person I respect very deeply. I adore him and his music. His music gives me meaning in the world. Anyone who would rather just put him down should shut up because they obviously have no idea who Pete or The Who are.

-and I know what I'm talking about, so don't give me any shit-

  • GENIUS'S die or kill them selves at their peak,, or dissappear,, has Pete done any of these yet ?

    no

    he merely said

'hope i die before i get old',, he did die before he got old,, as a dynamic performer that is ,, round about Live aid period,, case closed,,

  • Yall hard on Pete. This was just a pure cut jam session. I totally get it.

  • This is a kick-ass record. But he really does sound better with The Who!!

  • I pressed "watch in high quality" and it was still shit.

    Youtube, help pls?

  • Some folks get it :)

Other folks... it's like an aeroplane

  • Ugh! 80's! As far as the eye can see!

  • no wonder people thought he was a pedophile

    this is garbage

  • Who is responsible for this?

  • NICHOLAS CAGE

    CANNOT UNSEE

  • ...and Pete looks like a cross between Liberace and Lawrence Welk. (And don't say "who"?)

  • On Concert For Kampuchea Paul Mac says "the only lousy sod who wouldn't wear a silver suit ...". PT saved the suit and saved it for the right occasion

  • That "moron" is Emma Townsend, Pete's oldest daughter.

  • I wouldn't call her a moron. She has a pretty decent voice, and she looks pretty good, too.

  • I didn't call her a moron. MisterDanceMachine did. I was replying to him.

  • @thegeneral1950 She is pretty decent! Hell ya!

  • @enigmaduo she looks like a moron to me ......... cant even sing in english properly, can't be pete's daughter.

i dont even know how to start on this video look at it. what was pete thinking with that gold jacket. song sucks. band sucks, go back to the Who for a real music!

  • @plotchickens....... Where's your video?

  • umm .... is that a rehtorical question, it must be because i have videos and you don't? fuck you, the who were way better than this 80s trash, i spent that whole few years just begging for the who to reform.

  • great tune and albulm! didnt david gilmour produce this albulm?

  • If they ever do a bio-pic on The Who, Nicholas Cage has SO got to play this man...

  • hahaha!

  • This entire vid just screams "PARTY!"

  • got this song on my windows media player.. off of white city..anyone know who those backup singers are...they do some great harmonies.

  • got the 12" which is exactly that version. will upload it soon.

  • I've seen a few versions of this song on video, and I think this is the best one. Too bad the first minute or so seem to be cut out. Does anyone have and can upload the this video version of this song in it's entirety?

  • OctoJan, thanks so much! My dear Dad always had a harmonica with him and when I played this for him years ago, he totally flipped over the harmonica playing. Never knew who it was! Dear Dad is playing his harmonica in Heaven now.

  • Amazing groove from Simon Phillips on this track. Got to have some stamina to keep a fast shuffle like that for an entire song. Love it!

  • Yes, that is Pete's daughter. I don't know how anyone can sit still to this GREAT party! AMAZING brass!

  • Who is the guy who comes in with the harmonica? Looks as if everyone on stage knows who he is?

  • That's Peter Hope-Evans. He played with Pete for years. At least with Pete Townshend's Deep End, as far as I can recall.

  • partyboostertriplex

  • I believe that is Emma Townshend, Pete's oldest child.....?

  • i loved this song back in the day and i still love it, i grew up watching this video. i remember it!!!!

  • I don't know how anybody could sit still watching this. God, what a great brass section!
