Ok Peoples who KILL any animal to near extinction. THINK OF LONG TERM EFFECT!!!!!! Every animal on this planet makes a difference no matter how small. Every animal is a part of the natural cycle of life and every animal contributes to everything around then. Like if we got rid off ALL the spiders in the world we would be surrounded by ALL those little bugs that they would have eaten. The amur leopard hunts as well and with them gone everything in there habitat will be affected. THINK OF THAT!!!!
These are the most sublime creatures this planet has to offer, look at them!
Russia should do EVERYTHING IT CAN TO SAVE THESE MYTHICAL CREATURES, along with the Amur tiger, since these animals are not only a national treasure for the Russians, but they are a GLOBAL TREASURE. Save these animals!!!!!
Look at those ice blue eyes... they look even more breathtaking during winter, when they grow pale but long and thicker fur.

Yet you are probably more likely to be attacked by a deer than a Amur Leopard.

Hopefully that will do something. I feel bad because I didn't know about the Amur Leopard until just recent. There are almost no merchandise or documentries showcasing these animals. How Sad.

Amur Leopards are the most beautiful animals on this planet. I saw one in the zoo of Frankfurt/Germany, an outstanding animal! Sad to hear that they will go extinct for very sure.
i really hope these animals dont go extinct, they are soo buteful,i wish potchers would leave them in peace, its so unfair on them!Thank goodness we have things like zoos and stuff cause they would never do such thing! ='(
@BigCatRescue is it possible to put like 4 amur leopards ( 3 females / 1 male ) in yellowstone park , the conditions there are easyer , and when every newborn is old enough to survive on their own putting them back in to there natural habitat in russia , or the parents , keeping it to a total of 4-6 Amur leopards in yellowstone and any numbers above being sent back to their natural habitat.
@nafaka12 It's possible I guess, but not something that would be advantageous to Yellowstone, introducing non native species is not something that would be done.
@nafaka12 - Agreed with all that BCR says - they are not native to the US. Introducing non-native species to a national park is against their philosophy. And - there would inevitably be conflict between the ranchers and the NPS - there is now - look at all the heck they raise about the re-introduction of the wolf - now imagine a more elusive, cunning predator living in that area of Wyoming/Montana - the ranchers would go ballistic and insist (like they did with the wolf) that they be removed.
@KC0TLV plus the Amur leopard would cause problems to the cougar. It would hunt the same prey and demand the same territories. The only way would be to introduce them, where they were living historical. Amur leopards were very widespread, from North Korea over whole northern russia to the borders of eastern europe. At the moment, they are introducing bears and wolfes back in middle europe (switzerland, germany and austria) with some success. It MUST be possible to do that with amur leopards too!
@viky10400 It always comes down to human intrusion, whether it be over development or hunting etc..Now with amur leopard numbers so low inbreeding will occur which will weaken the genetics also :(
@BigCatRescue That's true, but wasn't there mention that the numbers today are so low, in-breeding will occur? I'd rather have some mixed genetics to save the animal than to have it die off completely with pure genes.
@mysterycat84 Sure it's possible, but honestly it would be a pointless exercise doing this before we can protect enough habitat and educate people about the amur leopards :(
@wijnruit I'm unsure as to how many females are left in the wild, either way the amur leopard numbers are so low now it doesn't look good for these cats :(
man fuck these people if a leopard kills your live stock you ether 1 build a wall or 2 fucking move you dont kill a entire species so you have a little more cash in your pockets
These cats better not go extinct in my eyes these are more important than the people killing them! Their lucky to get their stupid cows and chickens in compensation for them being hunted! And chew on this if they didn't live in the Amur Leopard's natural habitat they wouldn't get their stupid chickens and cows killed why shoot the animal for doing it's job and using its own instincts? SERIOUSLY! THESE CATS WERE THERE FIRST!
Its great that you guys help big cats that needs help :D for some reason i just feel horrible when a animal dies even if im not involved in how he died.
@secuu321 you think like an american :) but you dont realize that there are people that have nothing to eat not even some plants and roots sometimes this beautiful animals are the only sorce of food dont get me wrong i feel bad too for the killing of this beautiful creatures but i prefer seeing people that are alive than just animals :)
it's not too late to save these creatures!!! but what i think is fascinating and plain upsetting is, the animals that are going into exstinction are in regions china, india, russia. The eagle that was having some difficulties has actually reversed and we've seen a spike in their numbers and thier thriving. I'm upset at foreign countries for not getting a better hold on poaching and livestock killing. There's only so much we can do from america, these countries need to step up.
if seen this animal on planet eahrt, the only breed wans in few year, the cubs 1 or 2 dies frequenley, the dont have enouch space and food anymore the are les then about 30 in the wild the think :-( such a mysterouis beutiful cat i fear its to late for this species....
i think this is the best video i have seen about amur leopards. they are so beautiful yet not many people know about them and they are so endangered too which makes it even sader.
My real holiday joy will be to see Kishka and Khan, two beautiful Amur leopards at The Living Desert in Palm Desert / Rancho Mirage. They are beyond belief -so beautiful. I was 5 - 10 inches (between glass) from Kishka's face. Her eyes are about 1 inch in diameter, sea foam green. Silver green.
i remember seeing a pair of amur leopards on planet earth! they were so beautiful! it was a mother and cub, so i hope by now that cub has grown up and learned to avoid people at all costs!
sorry that i am in essence stalking all your videos xD im supposed to b studying for midterms but they keep popping up in my subscribers box and theyre so interesting and fun to watch!
Hi I work with 3 Amur leopards, have a look on my channel I have a great video on some of the training we do at the zoo with them. Great vid we need to raise as much awareness as we can to save them..
I have become a member of WWF, adopted an Amur Leopard, I just hope small contributions from people who care will be enough to protect this beautiful animal
Conservation work for the Amur leopard? There is but as usual, not enough. Jobs working with animals both in captivity and in the field are few and far between, are you studying?
Excellent, thank you for this video it's very informative. What beautiful cats, it's the individual adaptations over centuries that make them so fascinating and unique.
The groups that have chosen to replace livestock is brilliant, which agencies are currently doing this? I'd like to support them, it's one of the best solutions I've heard of.
in a couple entries from a book i have called "Wild Cats". But your right i just did some reasearch and the leopard from Iran is a completely differnt leopard called the Iranian or Persian Leopard. Oh well, THANKS FOR REPLYING! i didnt think someone like you guys would reply.
A Leopard in Africa is the same damn leopard in Russia. It seems like a different species only because it physically adapted to it's environment over a period of time. The result is a slightly different looking cat, but it's basically the same damn animal.
Take a population of African Leopards and place them in Russia. Over a period of time, they will develop certain characteristics that helps them better able to adapt to the region.
The amur leopard is a different sub species of leopard, you're right they are very similar to the african leopard and have just adapted to their environment, placing african leopards in russia however wouldn't work.
I disagree. Take Bengal Tigers for example. They are from the hot tropics of India, and yet ,they are able to adapt to the cold winter weather in Chicago zoos just as Siberian Tigers are.
Siberian Tigers aren't born as full grown adults already able to adapt to the cold environment of Russia. Just like the captive born Bengal Tigers in zoos, Siberian Tigers adapt to the cold as little kittens to.
We were talking about introducing african leopards to russia right? Wouldn't work, full stop. Amur leopards have adapted to the cold and have a thicker fur compared to african leopards. It wouldn't do any good to the amur leopard species survival anyway.
That'll work out well, remove an animal from a dry, hot climate and put it in a cold, snowy one. It looks kind of the same, so it should work. If they don't adapt, it's just because they're lazy.
What did the california condor's population drop down to, anyhow?
As of now, I'm sure these cats could be saved, but they don't have anything to speak of a gene pool left. Here comes massive vulnerability to disease, with no ability to evolve further. They could be saved for our lifetime, but some of the damage can't be undone.
A captive breeding program in zoos would at least keep them around for longer. They might be attractions, but at least we'd have a population to breed from.
They are truely beatuiful animals. I'm a little irritated with the way they plan on bringing them back. they want to clone them now, take a leopard harvest some cells or whatever keep them till we can clone a ton of amur leopards. That isn't natural and it bugs me
WWF has a conservation plan set up thats pretty neat! You donate 25-100 dollars but you get certificates and memerobilia to show you helped save the Cats.
Less than 50 animals is not enough to sustain the population so their extinction is guaranteed now. Amur Leopards are just a subspecies of the usual leopard so I'm not convinced their loss will be such a big deal, and whats the point saving them if all their habitat is gone anyway? They would just become zoo attractions. Conservation money spent on the amur leopard is a waste now. Spend it where it will really work: see the ZSL 'edge' program website and give THEM your money!
The animals are important because they play a HUGE role on the enviroment, in the food chain, and in so many other ways. They might become zoo "attractions" but at least we could keep them safe. I dont think its fair that we turn our back on them when we CAUSED their near-extinction in the first place.
And it is important, also, in the fact that it will lead EVERYONE to STOP encroachment on nature, so hopefully we can all learn a lesson.
nice appretiation for the eco system! I say we bring them back, its humans fault there dying and we are going to save them however we can! Plus I (not too sound horrible, but its true) I don't see us on the endangered list, humans are a majorly overpopulated spiecies, I'm only facing facts. srry if I sound mean.
They are awesome animals, it is sad that people are wiping out this animal along with thousands of other species, hopefully we can preserve enough habitat and educate and help the local people about why we need to stop killing big cats.
I know it'd be expensive and somewhat difficult but it can be done right?
Those organizations that are doing the captive breeding program can get a sperm sample from one of their males then find a wild female in heat, catch her (with animal tranquilizer not trap), inseminate her then release her.
If its done a couple of times it'd help significantly with the genetic diversity in the wild.
But of course, poaching and habitat destruction need to stop first.
I'm not sure to be honest, obviously the cat would have to be put under for the procedure which is always a tricky thing that is the last resort. maybe this is why a.i isn't used for breeding programs? You're right we make sure enough habitat is preserved and people are educated so we can save the existing cats left in the wild!
that is soooo sad...did i miss-hear or did you say population around 30....mann that is sad...and i was reading the comments and they need more ppl in these areas...well not more ppl, but ppl actually patrolling...people make a huge deal about polar bears(which they should)and there thousands of them but few of these... ='[
When it was about 1967 in Hong Kong, I read on newspaper that the villagers in the New Territory caught a tiger. In the photo the tiger was bounded with the feet hanging on a pole with the back down carried by the villagers. There are no tigers left now, given the north side the boundary has become the model Industrial Zone, Very sad!
HOW does politics respond to a critical situation like this?!?!?!: "They'll be fiiiine. They're just animals. Don't worry about them. They're smart. Extinction? Nuuu they're not they can survive. Now I have a meeting this afternoon so eeerm if you need soo much help eeerm I'll call you. Okey? Excellent! Now eeerm I got to go so nice meeting you!"
WOW, i never heard of the amur leopard. If there are laws that prohibit poaching, why do many still et away with killing animals??? Just setting laws are not enough, we(humans) need to play a more active role.
I know there are some captive breeding programs, but it's just the last thing to do to save these cats. We need to work with the local people and save natural habitat for he existing leopards and they will prosper.
If it wasn't because of the BBC Planet Earth doc. I would have never known of these leopards. To bad that a single lion pride has as much if not more members of their species than there are Amur leopards in the planet.
cannot wait to adopt one of these! their so marvelous

@BigCatRescue is it possible to put like 4 amur leopards ( 3 females / 1 male ) in yellowstone park , the conditions there are easyer , and when every newborn is old enough to survive on their own putting them back in to there natural habitat in russia , or the parents , keeping it to a total of 4-6 Amur leopards in yellowstone and any numbers above being sent back to their natural habitat.
nafaka12 1 year ago
@nafaka12 It's possible I guess, but not something that would be advantageous to Yellowstone, introducing non native species is not something that would be done.
BigCatRescue 1 year ago
@BigCatRescue ahh i get it.
nafaka12 1 year ago
@nafaka12 - Agreed with all that BCR says - they are not native to the US. Introducing non-native species to a national park is against their philosophy. And - there would inevitably be conflict between the ranchers and the NPS - there is now - look at all the heck they raise about the re-introduction of the wolf - now imagine a more elusive, cunning predator living in that area of Wyoming/Montana - the ranchers would go ballistic and insist (like they did with the wolf) that they be removed.
KC0TLV 1 year ago
@KC0TLV plus the Amur leopard would cause problems to the cougar. It would hunt the same prey and demand the same territories. The only way would be to introduce them, where they were living historical. Amur leopards were very widespread, from North Korea over whole northern russia to the borders of eastern europe. At the moment, they are introducing bears and wolfes back in middle europe (switzerland, germany and austria) with some success. It MUST be possible to do that with amur leopards too!
VpR81 1 year ago
Are these leopards critically endangered only because humans hunt them?
viky10400 1 year ago
@viky10400 It always comes down to human intrusion, whether it be over development or hunting etc..Now with amur leopard numbers so low inbreeding will occur which will weaken the genetics also :(
BigCatRescue 1 year ago
@BigCatRescue Is it possible to mix these leopards with other species so that the genetics will be diversified at least?
ScopedOUT2 1 year ago
@ScopedOUT2 No, they have to be bred with other pure genetic specimens, otherwise it's pointless :(
BigCatRescue 1 year ago
@BigCatRescue That's true, but wasn't there mention that the numbers today are so low, in-breeding will occur? I'd rather have some mixed genetics to save the animal than to have it die off completely with pure genes.

SERIOUSLY! THESE CATS WERE THERE FIRST!

it's not too late to save these creatures!!! but what i think is fascinating and plain upsetting is, the animals that are going into exstinction are in regions china, india, russia. The eagle that was having some difficulties has actually reversed and we've seen a spike in their numbers and thier thriving. I'm upset at foreign countries for not getting a better hold on poaching and livestock killing. There's only so much we can do from america, these countries need to step up.

BigCatRescue 2 years ago
You sure you aren't confusing them with Cheetahs?
apharot 2 years ago
People kill me with that "endangered shit".
Solowizard 2 years ago
The amur leopard is a different sub species of leopard, you're right they are very similar to the african leopard and have just adapted to their environment, placing african leopards in russia however wouldn't work.
BigCatRescue 2 years ago
BigCatRescue,
I disagree. Take Bengal Tigers for example. They are from the hot tropics of India, and yet ,they are able to adapt to the cold winter weather in Chicago zoos just as Siberian Tigers are.
Solowizard 2 years ago
Siberian tigers live in Russia where it's already very cold, bengal tiger sin zoos are captive born so adapt to their environment from a young age :)
BigCatRescue 2 years ago
BigCatRescue,
NEWS FLASH!
Siberian Tigers aren't born as full grown adults already able to adapt to the cold environment of Russia. Just like the captive born Bengal Tigers in zoos, Siberian Tigers adapt to the cold as little kittens to.
Solowizard 2 years ago
We were talking about introducing african leopards to russia right? Wouldn't work, full stop. Amur leopards have adapted to the cold and have a thicker fur compared to african leopards. It wouldn't do any good to the amur leopard species survival anyway.
BigCatRescue 2 years ago
That'll work out well, remove an animal from a dry, hot climate and put it in a cold, snowy one. It looks kind of the same, so it should work. If they don't adapt, it's just because they're lazy.
UberMan5000 2 years ago
Cloning is wrong because it's against the nature; but perhaps it's the only way to bring these species back if they all gone extincted.

UberMan5000 2 years ago
They are truely beatuiful animals. I'm a little irritated with the way they plan on bringing them back. they want to clone them now, take a leopard harvest some cells or whatever keep them till we can clone a ton of amur leopards. That isn't natural and it bugs me
NightEcho11 2 years ago
WWF has a conservation plan set up thats pretty neat! You donate 25-100 dollars but you get certificates and memerobilia to show you helped save the Cats.
otterlover32197 2 years ago
Less than 50 animals is not enough to sustain the population so their extinction is guaranteed now. Amur Leopards are just a subspecies of the usual leopard so I'm not convinced their loss will be such a big deal, and whats the point saving them if all their habitat is gone anyway? They would just become zoo attractions. Conservation money spent on the amur leopard is a waste now. Spend it where it will really work: see the ZSL 'edge' program website and give THEM your money!
ech1dna 2 years ago
They are not just "a subspecies".
PredatorHuntress666 2 years ago
nice appretiation for the eco system!

BigCatRescue 2 years ago
It's unfortunate that their numbers have dropped so low. Even if their population increases the loss of genetic diversity cannot be recovered.
Pixelationize 2 years ago
This is true, they may have bred with related cats in the wild which is never a good thing for the species.
BigCatRescue 2 years ago
Could Artificial insemination help?
I know it'd be expensive and somewhat difficult but it can be done right?
Those organizations that are doing the captive breeding program can get a sperm sample from one of their males then find a wild female in heat, catch her (with animal tranquilizer not trap), inseminate her then release her.
If its done a couple of times it'd help significantly with the genetic diversity in the wild.
But of course, poaching and habitat destruction need to stop first.
cesarmd7 2 years ago

WOW, i never heard of the amur leopard. If there are laws that prohibit poaching, why do many still et away with killing animals??? Just setting laws are not enough, we(humans) need to play a more active role.

could you breed one with another type of leopard? captive breeding could maybe bounce the population up a little
redhawkfreak 2 years ago
I know there are some captive breeding programs, but it's just the last thing to do to save these cats. We need to work with the local people and save natural habitat for he existing leopards and they will prosper.

If it wasn't because of the BBC Planet Earth doc. I would have never known of these leopards. To bad that a single lion pride has as much if not more members of their species than there are Amur leopards in the planet.
