Al Swift(A puppeteer, comedy writer and live on camera performer on"Howdy Doody")and the first sea captain host/performer on WPIX TV Ch.11 NYC's"Popeye Show"does the voices for this "Terry Tunes"cartoon.
As well as I know...when this vignette *does* get screened at cartoon conventions, Either U.S. or overseas, you *can* see this in it's Full Wide-Screen CINEMASCOPE Glory! *Definitely* if ya make it to *any* convention in Europe.
Originally released in CinemaScope (this is a "cropped" TV print from the mid-'60s) in August 1957. For some reason, Ernest Pintoff was unable to finish this; Gene Deitch completed it, and originally got sole screen credit as director.
In the real world brats like that would never be introspective & think "why am i hurting another human being maybe there's something wrong with me". He'd have to be sent to psych by court order to avoid jail or flebus would have to realise u just cant please everyone even when you play their game. So just hang round people that do support u. Of course it's hard if you're stuck with these brats at school, work, happens to be your boss, parent or political leader. Hopefully God is easy to please.
Oh, and Ernie wrote the score to this, although I don't think the union rules allowed for him to take credit. It's a widescreen cartoon I believe -- this is cropped for a 4 x 3 aspect ratio.
Ernie was a firend of mine -- an eclectic and gifted man, more attuned to UPA's design aesthetic during this period than he was to Terrytoons. He was a jazzman also -- he blew with Dexter Gordon at one point -- and wrote several books including a coming-of-age novel ZACHARY that is a small classic. He won a 'toon Oscar for THE CRITIC and then turned into a live action director -- DYNAMITE CHICKEN with Richard Pryor (and John Lennon!) might be his most known work. A true and generous artist.
You're referring to Allen Swift, 'shadejford', who became a very close friend of Gene Deitch and visited him in Czechoslovakia many times during the '60s, also providing him with some voice tracks on his MGM "Tom & Jerry" cartoons in 1961-'62.
Thanks for posting. 'Been wanting to see this for years! Terrytoons was going thru a renaissance when Pintoff directed this for the company. The voices of the narrator and of Rudolph are done by the same guy who did the voice for Clint Clobber, another Terrytoons character.
Just like everybody, I'm asking where does this came from. Television? Contacts with some experts? There is no known VHS or DVD of this movie I think.
Thank you for posting this! I only saw it once before when I rented a film of it. I hope someday to be able to find "The Juggler Of Our Lady" or "Another Day, Another Doormat" here.
That is the best depiction of a psychiatric/pointy-head doctor ever created.

This is like a deconstruction of those children shows "Everybody's happy and gets along" morals- but it came first. I love it.

I love the Stravinsky-like music in this film. Gene Deitch always has the most interesting music scores in his cartoons.
