I hope Donnie is ok. there is a lot that is weighing on his mind...in a heavy way. matter of fact, i can hardly think of a single time that i've seen him when he wasn't getting emotional. I do know this much, him and J.D carry an amazing history onto that stage when they walk out. especially J.D......rip
few people on this planet carry as much onto the stage as JD & Donnie Sumner. it always troubles me seeing Donnie in these clips. he has a heavy load weighing on his mind. i sure hope he is doing ok. what a set of pipes he has.
There are many precious saints and pioneers who have sadly passed on since this video was made, inc George Younce, but they're all singing in the grandest house of all, which is the kingdom of the Lord and what a truely special thing to experience that must be.
There are are still many pioneers and saints that still walk with us and I consider hoover4000 to be one of them because of how much she given us by uploading many songs and memories.
What a tear jerker!!! Donnie Sumner is just a great singer! What feeling he puts into his singing. It's like he's lived these words. No one can touch him on The Lighthouse. He does the best version of that song that I've ever heard. Bar none! Wish someone would post hm singing that song. Thanks for posting this video.
THANKS TO CALVARY I AM NOT THE ONE I USED TO BE!!! IM SOO VERY BLESSED!!!! I LOVE HIM AND IM SOO THANKFUL FOR WHAT HE HAS DONE IN MY LIFE!! THANK YOU LORD!!!
just got home from Bible Study, where we have Bible Study is a old furniture store. Tonight the father, and grandfather hosted Donnie Sumner. It was a pot luck supper, after our Bible Study, we treated to a Hallelujah Hoe Down, cost $0.00, for entertainment, a revival, a Hallelujah Hoe Down, and supper. Not the Ryman, but the 60 people there, we are truly Blessed.
This song is very real to Donnie also due to his drug and alcohol problems. but it is mu song also due to the years I was hooked on alcohol. but THANKS TO CALVARY I am FREE and Know the MASTER

michaeleverett is right, i saw an interview with bill and george where bill was talking about writing this song for george because of his alcoholism he suffered with
@hoover4000 If I saw the same video you did, I believe that Bill said I have a new song that will good for you. I don't remember him saying that he wrote it for George. I could sure be wrong, but that is what I remember.
This Beautiful old Hymn is a Standing ovation tribute to the majestic Sacrifice He made for me on the Cross. There he became my Sin and poured out His love and blood to pay for me.
Oh my Jesus, I just raise my hands and my Heart in worship to you for your Awesome love! Hallelujah! What a Savior! Folks, the bottom line is this... The Cross, in Him we see our name written in blood! And He wrote it with a pen of Love!
I have heard George sing this song many times, but this is the first time I have heard it with Donnie. The song and performance is awesome. George has been a favorite bass singer of mine for over 40 years. He is sorely missed but Heaven has one more special sole.
You can also tell George has been there too. this song was written by Bill Gaither FOR George Younce. George used to have a drining problem when Bill had written this for his old friend.
George's "drinking problem" began after he enlisted in the Army in 1950. He served one stint in the 82nd Airborne, choosing not to reenlist. George described himself as having "swam" in the booze because of his addiction, but thankfully it lasted only a couple years.
George went to church his first Sunday out of the Army and gave his heart to the Lord again. He never drank again after that.

Sorry, but Bill Gaither wrote that song for Doug Oldham, after Doug got his family back together again. They went back to their old house to get a few things, and his little boy said, "Daddy, I don't like this place; it scares me." Doug told him, "Son, thanks to Jesus, we don't live here any more." Doug, Bill's close friend, told Bill the story, who then wrote the song. I heard Doug tell that story many times in concert.
You can sure tell that Donnie has been there..what a changed life, and one change that only the Lord Jesus Christ could make..Donnie your voice gives me chills because it is so expressive!
This song is so spiritually filling. It tells you that when you come to calvary you leave a new person. If you've not asked god to forgive you yet, you have no idea what you're missing. It gives you the most wonderful feeling in the world.
I like George Younce's voice...and the message of the song is indeed what is really tremendous. Because of Christ's death on Calvary we can all look to Him for a home in heaven.
