Statistics of large, overcrowded third-world cities bear this out, that the urban poor have smaller families than those remaining in rural areas where poverty and large families are inextricably linked. Free Energy would aid the prosperity and the population might settle to 10-12 billion, but with a far smaller ecological footprint than at present. It should be sustainable.

He is smart to want population control. Our planet has an estimated carrying capacity of 1.5-2 billion people. The only reason we have 7 billion is because of our use of fossil fuels. When we hit peak oil we will not be able to sustain that population, and it will decrease through disease, famine, and warfare if not controlled now in other ways.
