  • Bad comments? I was there they were on the roof as a R.I.T team there was suspicion that there was possibly another person in there that was a truck company up there not an engine company

  • water is not use to put out fire it used to cool down the tempture of smoke.. smoke is gas vapor the water used to cool down before it can start fire again..

  • @firefighterunit251 dont know what planet youre from but at my firehouse we put the wet stuff on the red stuff to make it go away

  • Took to long to get water on this fire. Not sure if they had water issues, OOS hydrant, relay. Fire was already in the voids and under the eaves. Two lines fighting this fire from the inside should have been their SOP. Didn't look like an outside operation to me. Just my observation from watching this, no disrespect to the CFD.

  • What happened to the nozzle on the second line? Looked like a clog or something.

  • Those look like Scott Airpacks but sounds like a MSA pass device.

  • Open up that roof!

  • @drgLACity yea add fuel to the fire without a charged line. good call jerky

  • God Bless these men (and woman)

  • I've been a firefighter , only vol. mind you, none the less for 22 years and i have to ask, why wasn't a master stream put into play, like the first five minutes of this job ?..not in any way criticizing since i wasn't there..just asking.

  • @tbone6636 because in a fire like this there was potential victims, masterstreams often push the fire on a higher lever than a handline, and in the beginning of the video you can see this was a what looked to be a one room job with no way of employing said masterstream.

  • haah ppfkid ur totally right....every fire video i see everyone thinks theyre theyre tommy gavin. different departments handle their shit differently........the only thing i noticed is at the beginning the first couple guys werent even all the way out of the building before they had their masks off...but hey thats their choice. much respect though u cant talk shit about chicago FD thats the birthplace of the fire department basicly!!!!!

  • Ya you are absolutely right on this. Some people choose to ignore the dangers of carcinogens and chemicals found in smoke, especially considering whats found in homes nowadays compared to 50 years ago. More upholstery, plastics, modern household items that put off nasty chemicals. Wear your SCBA's gentleman...

Btw Cincinnati is the birthplace of firefighting in the US. Chicago is said to be the most technologically advanced fire department in the nation

  • Why would you bring a hose line to the roof? in this case you wouldn't!!!! and in most cases you wouldn't either..utilizing a hose line on the second story would do nothing but push the fire down into the first story and not to mention if you have interior crews, your are royally screwing them, by making fried chicken out of them by disrupting the thermal balance inside...Every department operates differently and has SOP's to follow....Good video!

  • Protecting your means of egress. That's why you would.

  • Why would you have a hose line on the roof? in this case you wouldn't and in most cases you wouldn't either. The only thing you would be doing in this case is pushing the fire from the second story down into the first floor, not to mention if you have interior crews you are royally screwing them, by disrupting the thermal balance and cooking them inside..Every department is different and has SOP's to follow....good video

  • why does everone always have a bad comment about somthing. they did a good freakin job but some1 always has to say a bunch of bullshit. chicago has the best fire departments and i cant wait to join.

  • Yeah, but such a simple fire turned into a shit show.

  • @ppfdkid Because they have minuts, hours to seat there and criticisize the action some one had seconds to act on.. Sucks but thats life.

See a comment "open up the roof" Don't see a reason to risk firefighter safety with roof vent on that tyep of roof. Even more so since that window is doing a good job of venting...

I do agree with having a line up the ladder charged, but thats just me. Not a complaint.

    Stay safe

P.S: I don't think any FD is better then the next! Training differs!

  • engine 202 truck 101 fdny respect to the brothers from the windy city

  • Good Job but why were they on that roof without a line????? Chicago Fd is a great dept for the amount of guys they have fighting that fire lives could have been lost without the water probably a political chief making decisions once again good job on the 2 y/o god bless all my fellow ffs out there be careful

  • believe it or not the fire fighter who rescued that 2 year old is my uncle he is lieutenant Dennis Cahill of the chicago fire department, he was awarded a medal for the rescue

  • Nice video, good example of the brothers getting off the ladder fast.

  • where is thr two year old

  • Great catch! What time was this? I do still shots of the CFD and I know how hard it is to get there when the stuff it hittin the fan. Great work!

  • dude, last time i checked chicago firemen are the shit!!!!

  • fire intensifies every 30 seconds if going unchecked. watch and count guys

  • Actually, fire intensifies every second if oxygen fuel and heat are still present :)

  • That last firefighter had to been a little warm up there. I've gotten close but not that close.

  • engine 49 & truck 33

  • Its firefighter not fireman, a fireman puts coal into the engine of a coal burning train.

  • Thank God the 2 yr old was saved! My 2 yr old grandbaby was just saved 2 weeks ago (started by a space heater).

I used to watch videos on YouTube and think "how cool. what a great video of the fire & firemen." But when the News Van pulled up at my daughter's house, it wasn't so "Great." It felt like an invasion of privacy. Not bitter about it, just strange how it's different when it's YOUR family, not some stranger.

-- This was a very good video coverage, though.

  • Nice vid. One of the best

  • GREAT FOOTAGE ANDREW!!!
