it looks 10x better than the older model but it is a kia and depriciates like 70% of its value by 2013. Just not worth it for me. I am looking at the Altima '12.
I was thinking of getting a Camry... then I saw this car. If this car had an Audi or MB badge on it, it would have cost $50K. I love the features like nav, pano roof, heated front and rear seats, and power folding side mirrors, and all for $30K? I'm sold, and I don't care if it's a Kia. This car should be compared to Audis and Beemers, not Camrys. Way to go Kia!!
stunning car - those who own accord or camry are surely pissed off as to why they paid so much more for their plastic junks. they wont admit and hence you read comments like shit, ita a kia and more.
in a matter of few these kia and hyundai will rule the world (in budget car category ofcourse)
I think everyone needs to give a big thanks to South Koreans for giving the everyday man a luxury car for a very reasonable price. During a time when union workers/ corporations are making a killing, we are damn lucky there are two companies willing to keep the price low and designing cars with us in mind 100%.
The Optima is heavier and has slightly worse fuel economy than the Sonata.
The good thing is that the extra weight is actually used to make the car safer.
The Optima has better ratings than the Sonata on safer car dot gov and gets excellent scores on the IIHS website as well. The new 2012 Passat does look really cool to me though as it has a DUAL CLUTCH (DSG gearbox) just like super expensive Ferraris and Bugattis and the Passat is available with a WELL OVER 40mpg Turbo Diesel as well.
this is honestly the best looking car in the new corolla price range, I saw it in real life and my parents and I were like wow, they said we should of got that instead of the BMW, I would have agreed but this car came out a year after we got our 5-series
@Dantemxl yeah, problem is with me I have a tendency to not believe in leagues and all cars are the same in a sense lol, that's the answer I'm looking for lol
@eliazourosqw yeah, the Kia Optima feels like a Cobalt LS when driving but the look on the outside I feel doesn't out weigh the feel to justify the cost
We own one. Love it inside-out. Very solid interior and handling, great seats, spacious, you'd think it costs way more. Easily better than any Camry, Fusion, Malibu, Altima, or even Accord; I highly recommend it.
I really have to say KIA especially this model now stands with Honda Accord and Nissan Altima. In fact i would choose this car. V4 2.0 TURBO. 271HP Lighter and faster than V6 3.5 Accord or Altima. 4 heating sits neither Altima or Accord has those options. Panoramic roof again neither Altima or Accord has it. So this car looks great, it is faster, better ( more cooler options ) and cheaper than Altima or Accord. I do have to admit i would choose this car rather then Altima or Accord any time.
No 4wd. SE and XE are Turbo's. From the cabin, the turbo sounded smooth and beefy. I was impressed. The push button start is so nice. I didn't like the door handles (should be flat black) and round gas cover (should have been rectangular to fit the car's lines). The plastic trim around fog front lights were out of proportion (too thick). I don't think I would get the dual sunroofs. The seats were rather flat, unless you have a wide butt. Will test drive in a few days and excited!
@cheeseburger9418 No FWD only, maybe for 2012 theyll offer a AWD package and 5spd Manual for the turbo too. i might just wait until they offer a AWD, of course, that comes at a price of fuel economy
@dawhitecastle the car was NOT mad by him!!!! SOO go ahead and by one, he took it as his by have his army use/drive around in them, why because there were the best cars out at that time, and they sit all by and old bug and fix it with a 1600cc and see how long it last you. and the cars were small and easy to move around, but never broke down! done say that shit, ruins the VW name. best cars till this day, and still resell for 5,000-15,000
Why did they have to put "KIA" on the front and the back of the car? Like we know that's the brand:) Don't really like the red on the inside, because sometimes it makes it more difficult to the read the numbers and everything, but overall, it's still a nice car!
The interior expecially the cockpit its very good designed (the only point of critic is the not covered cupholder...thats a,, no go ,, in modern midsize car)
It is ...a car with character a face into the masses ...it could be a Saab ( expecially the cockpit and the rear side /backdoor could be a new inspired Saab 900i from 1978)
I like it ,but i love my volvo c30
sry for my bad english a car enthusiast from germany (the autoland ;)
This is not a proper EX. As stated below, the EX would have stitched leather dash and leather wrapped steering wheel. Also, the standard wheels are different than the ones in this video (at least they were different on the EXs at the dealer near me).
@in2dadark This has to be a preproduction version. The EX does not come with those wheels as far as I know (only on the SX in the touring package?) And the EX would have stitched leather on the dashboard, not silver plastic. Also, in order to get the panoramic sunroof, included in the package is 'wood trim' .
@lMSwarior oh shut up. Who wouldn't rather have BMW than KIA. And who wouldn't rather have ferrari to BMW and so on. Not everyone can afford BMW. Stop comparing economic car to an expensive car.
After looking at this car I'm really having second thoughts about buying a malibu. Kia's only been out for a little over 15 years, do they make reliable cars? If so I'll buy one of these.
@GriffonRed Well, if I know anything about cars, the Malibu is probably one of the worst options. Kia has come a long way in a very short time. Reliability is sortof unknown with this model as far as I know. I believe the engine, transmission and just about everything else are all brand new designs.
@05Forenza OK, well thanks for the reply. I would have never thought that the car that had everything I needed for a great price would have been a kia. I guess its true what they say, "Only in america". You take care of yourself.
@05Forenza The engine and trans are directly from the hyundai sonata... the body is from kia... small differences... but ii know the sonata has proven to be very reliable since it's been out since february...
Lol.. they should have saved this design for the redesigned Hyundai Sonata... and switched with kia getting the new sonata's design... because this car looks 10 times better than the new sonata. Kia is supposed to be the "economy" brand under Hyundai, right? This new optima is making me really want one... I hate the new sonata look. It looks like a pinched turd, lmao... sorry, but thats the only way I can describe it lol
@rhythm78 "Pinched turd" is probably as accurate as you can get. I agree, the Sonata really is not that great to look at. It was when it first came out, and that was the same for the honda accord, but the designs aged way too quickly. the Optima probably won't fade out as fast.
@yummy1234098 The windows are open and therefore shutting the doors lacks that tight, vacuum sound. Also, a simple audio recording is not a fair interpretation of sound, or build quality, which is the implication.
Respond to this video... umm i personally love hyundai and kias and i am considering buying one so im not trying to 'dog' kia, but i kno a bad door sound when i hear it and having the window down is not gonna comprise door sound. the door sounded like it did on a toyota corolla. and a video is not gonna compromise door sound again just because its a video sure it might a little but its not gonna do it much espesially when it was both doors
@yummy1234098 "...espesially when it was both doors."-
The windows were down on all of the doors, and the audio staging was obviously the same throughout the vid, so the fact that both doors emitted the same sound has no significance. You'll need to experience the doors for yourself, in person, in order to make a fair comparative assessment.
This updated version of the Optima from last years is pretty attractive-looking in my opinion. I own a 2007 Sonata based on the experience of a rental/loaner car my wife drove in 2006 from a dealership where I had my own car getting worked on. She was so impressed with that years' (2007) Sonata, we went ahead and bough...t one with 7 miles on the odometer. I am very impressed with this new Optima. Instead of owning a diesel-powered car, which I really would love to do, I would buy this instead.
Never thought about owning a Kia till now. This car looks way better than my current Acura and has more features, such as heated front AND rear seats and the ventilated front seats. plus, i'm sure the price would be way less.
@piratose0 that sound is the works of a direct injection system, although it may sound ugly, the trade off is better performance. I'm sure the annoying ticking noises go away when you drive
This is basically a sportier, smaller version of the Hyundai Sonata, which I found to be quite enjoyable on the road. Can't wait to test out the turbocharged versions of both cars.

Awesome, looks like US gets the gauges with the inset computer. Also, is this an EX 2.4 or an EX Turbo? The SX has the "slicer" wheels and xenon headlamps.
DAmn this car looks GOOD! KORean car companies have improved more than any other brand in the last 10 years! Yes including Lambo as most will never even drive one much less own one
@choiyn98 The Sonata had a lot more time and effort put into it than this. It is expected to appeal more to the Camry crowd. This is Kia's offering and I don't expect it to sell very well.
it looks 10x better than the older model but it is a kia and depriciates like 70% of its value by 2013. Just not worth it for me. I am looking at the Altima '12.

DAmn this car looks GOOD! KORean car companies have improved more than any other brand in the last 10 years! Yes including Lambo as most will never even drive one much less own one

Although they are from the same company, I probably would pick the Sonata over this one.

@choiyn98 The Sonata had a lot more time and effort put into it than this. It is expected to appeal more to the Camry crowd. This is Kia's offering and I don't expect it to sell very well.
