amazing. soooo tight. he hit himself at 5:06 though, hahha! nice
stop complaining about the sideways camera u bunch of whiners. if you woulda watched the whole video it turns sideways a minute and a half in, i didnt notice i was too mesmerised by the beats
I dunno why everyone thinks you have to be a weckl or colaiuta or gadd or dennis chambers, etc, i mean they are drummer's drummers the real deal, but after you get the rudiments and STUDY alot, you just have to find your style, this was hell of a solo and a great drummer, those buzz rolls are hard to get right, A+
okay now you are starting to see someone that can handle sticks.......still simple shit...tricks are for kids...nothing new here...but better than most.......now that you can use the sticks...what do have in the mind?....if there is nothing there,,you will be the same drummer in ten years from now....
now people,,,don't get all bent out of shape and start telling me who the f do you think you are.....I'm just stating my opinion......you are intitled to yours also.
HE'll develop new stuff as the days go by. everyday you practice you develop new stuff you never noticed.. your opinion that he'll be the same drummer in ten years time is honestly stupid. at this standard, its good. in 10 years time it'll be very good..
Holding the camera sideways is very moronic. Its because when they hold it up sideways it still looks right side up when they're taping it so they think it will be right side up when they upload it to their computer. That alone could kill a great performance.
i dont wanna see ppl bitchin about it not being jazz or watev lol it doesnt matter this guy is a hardass he could kick ur ass via drums ok dont talk shit he owns very clean overall badass nice job i give u a virtual high five :D
Steadfasting, that's such bullshit. Go listen to some real jazz, because I'm sure whatever you heard that inspired you to write that was not real jazz.
This isn't much of a "jazz" solo anyways, so I hope you're not basing any conclusions off of this.
Most Jazz drumming is sloppy, and really lacks a good beat. It's a very sporadic noise drumming. Kinda like a retard having a seizure on top of a drum set.
It seems that none of you guys know a great solo when you see one. And this is a jazz solo. It appears to be base in improvisation. What do you guys think that jazz is? His skills are incredible, his moment is smooth and he doesn't even break a sweat. The man is cool and exceptional.
I think people are confusing what they call "jazz drumming" with GOOD jazz drumming. A GOOD jazz drummer won't lose tempo. However during a solo tempo doesn't matter as much.
And you are certainly entitled to it. I'm sure that there are some ideas that you can take away from the performance whether you like jazz or not. If not, to each his own. I do my thang and you do yours.
First of all i never didnt say that this guy sucks? Read my post correctly-.- And second its my opinion and tehere is nothign that says that i cant say my opinion, if u dont like then dont read it! peace
The thing that makes him even more incredible is that he is a accomplished orchestral and rudimental percussionist. Funny thing is he makes a living as a publisher. He really needs to quit his day job.
Notice the women in the background talking... how can you not? If you're one of those who think you're words are more important than the performance, please take it to the lobby.
I've watched countless drum solos on youtube and I am impressed with this one over and over again. It's so creative, and the guy never resorts to just a bunch of grooves and junk like every other drummer seems to do. He also makes it all look and sound smooth and improvised. So many drummers play solos in ways that look and sound contrived.
Post more solos if you've got them. I'd like to see more of what this guy does.
The very first day that I met this man he made the statement "I'll be the best teacher that you'll ever have, whether it be high school or college". Never thought I'd live to say this, but HE'S RIGHT! The man is a genius when it comes to teaching. More importantly he teaches in a way that he makes you do it, without doing it for you. In me and my peers case he taught us how to stop thinking and acting as boys and be respected as men in all walks of life. R'View 97
Thank you. Jazz drum soloing is actually my favorite art. I enjoy paying tribute to greats like Chic Webb, Max Roach, Buddy Rich, Philly Joe Jones, Sonny Paine, etc., in all of my solos, obviously. Preserving the jazz drum solo art form is a mission of mine of sorts. Its my paying respects to some giants who inspired me as a young drummer. Compositional jazz drum soloists are few and far between, but I try to keep the torch burning for my inspirations.
