No wonder I'm not familiar with a lot of these hits.....I was a whipper snapper at the time...playing with toys..when I should have been at the club with my parents.....MAN......I'm playing catch up now
I saw WD at a Roberta concert at the Arie Crown in Chicago, possibly early 70's. Annoyed at first at the interruption of her concert, bought this album soon afterward. Thank you so much for posting this here, may i ask for more?
i was introduced to Wayne Davis by a friend from the D C area...purchased the album immediately...over the years i have sang this song...one person thought that i made it up...said it was indicative of my mental state...had never heard of him...lost my album...this is really a treat...thank you...my grandson got to listen to a song that i sang around him from the time he was 4 - he is 10 now...
If anyone knows where I can find a copy of Wayne's LP that has "Strive On Be Strong" on it, please, please, pretty please let me know. I have been looking for over a decade for this song. Thanks so much. This brother lifted my vibes so many times while listening to him in the 70's. Howard U!!!
I acquired this album from a fleamarket several years ago..1 of my greatest finds and treasures! Would you please add "How's moma's Baby PLEASEeeeeee?" Thanks in Advance!
Remember this: "WE FEEL YOU, SPIRIT, COME IN. COME IN. COME IN. COME IN. COME IN. COME RIGHT IN. COME ON IN! COME IN. COME IN. OWWWWWWWWAH! SPIRIT! WE NEED YOU. SPIRIT. SPIRIT. SPIRIT. SPIRIT. SPIRIT. SPIRIT. SPIR-IT. SPIR-IT. SPIRIT. SPIRI...T. SPIRIT! SPIRIT! SPIR-IT! SPIR-IT! SPIR-IT! SPIRIT! SPIRIT! SPIR-IT! SPIR-IT! SPIR-IT! SPIR-IT! SPIR-IT! SPIR-IT! SPIR-IT! OWWWAH! OWWWAH! OWWWAAAAAAAWAAHHHH! OWWWWWW! OWWWWWWWWW! WOOOOOOOO! OWWWWWWWWW! OWWWWWWWWW! OWWWWWWWWW! EEEEEEEEE! EEEEEEEEEEE!”
I had the extreme honor of seeing Wayne Davis at the Greek Theatre in the early 1970's. He was part of Roberta Flack's band. She asked Wane to come out and perform a few songs. it couldn't have been more than three or four. I remember him singing "How's Mama's Baby." Wayne Davis stole the show!!
G-d be with Wayne Davis always!! The voice g-d gave him was such a wonderful gift!
I'll NEVER forget Wayne Davis or his wonderful gifts.
Roberta Flack always had a great ear for singers. Luther, Donny, Peabo, and Wayne were some of her favorites. Wayne Davis never received the accolades he deserved. This album is a real collectors item. I have been looking for it on cd for years. At least I had sense enough not to trade in my album.
I'm old school too. I grew up in the D.C suburbs during the 70"s. In '73 I was in high school about 18. My brother and I had an incredible vinyl collection. I still have many of them now. But this song is one that has escaped me, and I have wanted to hear it agin for a very long time. YouTube is a wonderful thing. And thank you BeyongBodyAndSoul for providing it for us all. DAMN!! That was awesome!!
The voice that God gave this man was great. To hear in in person was so touching. I miss the days of hearing him play. I never though I would find it on you too. Ma you need to pull out this album.
In "73 a fm station out of D.C. (WPFW)used to play this joint late at night and I fell in love with it. I have the album to this day. Some powerful music came out of that era. Thanks
Yeah, Colsnake, musical careers are whimsical at best! That piece has a lot of REAL to it, Jim!! We all at times asks that same question in amazement "...why you fly so fast....sweet bird of youth!" Peace
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Now I'm wondering if Roberta Flack still has the Live recording that was made at that concert of, Sly's, "Somebody's Watching You"? It could revitalize his career in an instant. Ha! who knows. Peace.,
Love this

It got some airplay on W.H.U.R.
I went to this brother's album opening in D.C.. Roberta Flack presented him in royal fashion and then he just disapeared. I also have the album.
