It doesn't sound that much like the "fashion" bassline actually. No more than both those basslines sound like "good times" by chic. Which has also been sampled like a zillion times.... I think it's just kind of a standard bass riff, and is probably coincidence.

Robert Smith-singer & Porl Thompson are the only original since 1976.Porl Thompson is a great guitarist & he is also married to Roberts sister.Porl left after 1979 & played with a couple other bands.The Cure music doesn't let him shine.He came back & then left again 1992-1995.Porl Played on the Page

Plant tour in 1995.That should tell you how reaspected Porl Thompson is.You can also buy Porls sinature line of his guitar.
