In some cases the tray might not open even if you do this. If it doesn't, there's a hole about a half inch under the right side of the tray. If you push a paper clip into it while pressing the eject button it'll open.
ok im lil confused....great video....cept for the xbox360 this video is to show you how to fix the stuck tray, meaning that it will not open nor close which is the problem that im having...but at 711 u say to press eject button to open...well yeah mine is stuck and i ovbiously cant do that lol so what do i do now? the light tapping (not banging) isnt opening it and it feels like its caught on something
My tray doesn't only get stuck, but it will quickly close once out. My tray will come out after pushing the open button a few times, or it won't respond, and I have to push on the front of the tray with my thumb. But, once out... It always shoots back in. I have to be real quick putting a game in before the tray shuts. Would this be related to the same problem, or does it sound like something totally different? Any advice? The original Xbox is my favorite console.
hey my video is not showing up on the screen when i turn my xbox on ;note; i have original xbox i need some help with fixing the video i have a lot of great games that i cant play plz respond
thank you so much finally a video that i can safely go by without damaging my xbox thank you so much oh and all you critics who says that this video is fake and stupid SCREW YOU AND YOUR XBOX CAN STAY BROKEN!!!
Dude!!! Thank you :D I was on the verge of purchasing a new disc drive when i come across your video and its sorted out my problem. My drive would eject when a disc was in but wouldn't eject when it was empty. After a quick and easy clean of the belt and the plastic runner thing it works perfectly :D Thanks again you saved me £30 *High Five*
I followed the video, in fact I took the whole thing apart and cleaned everything. It now opens properly when empty, but still refuses to open with a disk in.
N00Bown3rZ you will have to take it in to some one or its jut over heated try wraping it in a cold towl not wet and take the case ing off and git a can of ULTRA DUSTER hope this helps:)
thanks a million dude. people who are worried about the rubber-band being hard to put back on (like me), don't be. It'll take a few tries but it'll work. xbox is back to working 100%. you have no idea i've been looking for a permanent fix for this. Thanks again!
I got a probm w my xbox 3 years ago i picked it up w my halo 2 disc (inside) and it open nice but witout dus the by force i took it out now wen it turn it on a red light starts flashin & it says call tech support ppz help
Before watching "how to" videos I was an idiot and tried to pry my tray open. I got it out about 1 inch, now it will not open or close at all. Any advice?
There is an easier way. Push the eject button and look a little to the top left from the eject button. There is a small hole. Get a paperclip and push it in the hole, and the disc tray will come out. It's the same thing with computer optical drives.
This *WORKS*. I've had multiple 360s do this and I've had to ship them in for repair, but I fixed my MW2 Edition myself using this fix. It WORKS and it only took a few minutes. +1 for you sir.
Lol once i fixed my disc tray on my xbox like on this video i went to a friends house to help him fix his but when i got there he didnt have any tweasers so i just took a q-tip dipped it into water then dryed it on a paper towel then rubbed the q-tip on the rubber band and gears like on this video but with out removing them and it actually fixed his disc tray problem XD
For those of you asking about what to clean the drive or pulley with, if you take the 10 minutes out of your life to watch the entire video (or even just the first half) you'll see that I clean the belt with simple soap and water under the tap. NOT ALCOHOL I _DO_ use alcohol to clean the pulley; there is no harm in using alcohol on a plastic pulley. You could also use a damp q-tip (with water) or use a drop of Windex or something else that will evaporate quickly, yet clean off the build up.
@darkman042 DO NOT USE ANYTHING THAT IS OIL BASED like baby oil as I have seen somebody ask. That will break down the plastic in the wheel and rot the rubber on the belt. If you use anything oil based your drive will be ruined within a few months.
@darkman042 thanks for the video it worked great. but one more problem i am having with my xbox, the drive gets stuck open 5 out of 10 times, and i just push the left side of the drive to slightly, then it closes fine, its almost like it gets stuck to the left , it does it less after i did this, but it also used to get stuck in, i used the pclip method to open it for a few days until this worked, any ideas about the drive getting stuck open on my orignal xbox? email me at pdowty68@gmail.com thx
ok i got it to open but now it will not stay closed it keeps coming open what can i do about that if u want to send me an email on what i can do it is hillardc63@yahoo.com thanks
Bought a 360 from a friend like 4 months ago, issue happened watched this fixed it worked great then red ring :c, bought the old xboc same problem yet same video fixed it, thanks again man
hi I really need help now i open the drver i took out the rubber band and when i flippt my xbox up the driver clost and it wont open am so mad right now plz answer I realy need your help
@darkman042 As olandsbanken stated, the rubber band/belt is already out and the drive retracted when the xbox was flipped while trying to clean the pulleys. The clip does nothing anymore since there is nothing present to utilize the pullies. Any ideas???
@olandsbanken aye man i have the same problem as you but if you have an xbox360 elite like me u cant do the paperclip thing you HAVE to open your xbox360 and get the actual disc tray out. try looking for videos about how to open the xbox.
@JustWatchingOne I had this problem once with an Xbox 360 and I fixed it by opening up the system, taking the drive out and taking off the top half of the metal drive casing and just thoroughly cleaning all the dust off the track that the disc tray rides on. You'll have to have to figure out how to open an original Xbox system to do this, and the disc tray will have to be sticking out in order to clean the track. Make sure you even get the dust in the back of the track.

@JustWatchingOne Now close the drive back up, make sure you plug in any internal wires that you unplugged and set the drive back in place, close the system up and you should be good to go. Hope this helps
---->>>> AGH jeeze I forgot to mention something - you'll have to remove the whole outer casing of the Xbox before you can remove the faceplate. LMAO sorry...there are dozens of tutorials on how to remove the casing on youtube. Some people say you can get the drive-faceplate without removing the casing by prying it outwards really hard, but I don't condone this because it's a good way to snap the plate. ---->>>>
@H3nkkapOK this will do the trick- First off- it's easiest if you first take off the disc-tray faceplate (it's attached to the front of the disc tray and has "Xbox 360" etched into it.) To do this, you need to look at the bottom of this faceplate and you'll see two small tabs, one to the left and one to the right. You'll need a small flathead screwdriver and you need to pry the tabs outwards, but don't go bananas and use too much force. ---->>>>
@H3nkkap ---->>>> After you poked these tabs the right way, the faceplate-piece on the front of the disc drive will slide upwards and come right off. Set it aside and get a tiny flashlight (it needs to be small so it can illuminate a small area) and shine it in the thin gap beneath the bottom of the de-faceplated front of the disc drive. You'll see some gears in there. They turn sideways. ---->>>>
@H3nkkap NO prob :D So you were able to get the drive open? If not all you have to do is swipe a credit card along the bottom gap beneath the front of the drive, or anything long and thin like a small flathead screwdriver. It should swipe across the gear, and as you do this, grab the tray of the disc drive with a pair of pliars and pull it outwards and it will open. But no need to yank too hard...you'll damage the tray if you do that.
@H3nkkap ...and actually you really don't even need pliars and it's safer just the crab the end of the tray with your fingers and pull it out that way.
darkman042, this is a great video. The disc drive on my original Xbox console has caused me problems for years, but I followed the method depicted in the video and met with success. My drive now opens and closes. Thanks so much for your helpful video!
That belt looks like a bitch to put back on. I put belts on like that when they are exposed but in a tight space with tweezers.... Wouldn't like to try it.
Ok so my xbox I just got worked for my friend just fine? But when I try to use it it wouldn't open, then I got it to open when I push the button, but it won't close when I push the button. So then I pushed it closed and it won't even load the disc... what do I do???
this vid helped me easily with my 360, on my original everything was just as easy but putting the band back on to the pulleys after cleaning was quite the feat, took me like 10 minutes but hey at least my drive isnt stuck anymore thanks
need help my pulley broke and now my belt wont stay on the pulley...is there anything else I could use to sub for it? or is there a store that sells the pulley? thanks if anyone can help me out ..
I just wanna say thanks to the creator of this video. my warranty had expired and i was told it would cost 99.99 to send back to Microsoft and 50.00 plus a one hour drive for a mom & pop shop fix. I performed this procedure at work and it worked perfectly on my 360. my drive worked great and my games still play fine. I checked the drive several times before posting this and i'll swear to it working. Great job and thanks so much for helping the rest of us out.
Thank you! This vid really helped. I was able to do it with a more simple technique. My tweezers were not long enough, so i just placed the alcohol Q-tip head between the two pulleys with the belt in place. I manually slid the tray to clean the pulleys and inside of belt.. Then i cleaned the outside of belt.... You can really feel the difference when the belt is not slipping. The resistance of the drive motor is much more evident when sliding the tray in and out. Thanks again!
Thank you, my drive was to t he point where it couldn't get it to open without using the manual force eject (and even then it was having problems). I cleaned it using this method along with cleaning the gears and now it opens like a charm. Thanks again.
this problem is exactly wut happened to my old xbox which made me buy a new one which wont open today. Im gonna try this and see if it works and let u no!!!!
Just thought I'd say thanks for taking the time to make and upload this video. Worked like a charm on my 360 elite that I have had since launch.
Cheers ;-)
