  • wondifferous indeed! thanks for sharing ^_^

  • Well, on this sort of real handmade soft folk music shines the all the epic starlight of the norhtern hemnisphere. This Rock & Roll could never reach the border of this gentle and very fine tunes.

  • @ralfemmelius I wouldn't sell rock & roll short. Lot of great musicians play rock & roll. Warren Zevon is, in my eyes, one of the greatest artists to ever live, and he played rock & roll.

In fact, you might check out his song Macgillicuddy's Reeks. The tune sounds like something that would come out of a Dubliners album, but the lyrics are... not what you'd traditionally find in an Irish folk song. And therein lies the joke. I implore you to give him a listen.

  • @BarbaricGoose

I realy gave him a short listen. There is no compare to Altan and I miss the fearless optimistical clear message of love in the countryside, like I feal it here in underfranconia.

  • @ralfemmelius Well that is a damn shame, but to each their own.

  • wich is the language that altan sing??

  • @kofemord Well this is sung in English, but they also do Gaelic.

  • This makes me think of me and my sister, she's tan with dark hair, I'm fair with light hair, and I hate to say it, but she would be cruel enough to push me into a river for any reason if I got her mad enough.

  • Used to hear someone sing this one in a session. Great song!! Just realized that this is the same song as "Bonnie, bonnie bows of London", done by Martin Carthy and Dave Swarbrick.

  • Used to hear someone sing this one in a session. Great song!!

  • wonderfull ,love this , brings to mind pentangles 'cruel sister,'

  • This song is my favourite from the album. Great album too.

  • This is good. My favorite version is Julie Fowlis' version though.

  • This song is not just fiction. The lethal potential of out of control sibling rivalry is a hazard to families and society as well. Thanks for keeping this cautionary tale alive! Teachers, including music teachers) also might consider using this song to promote effort against cruel bullying. Children in terror cannot learn.

  • Let's not forget Bob Dylan's take on the song!

    Merry Christmas!!

  • this song is done a lot by American bluegrass bands except it has a more evil story to it.its been done in America for a very long time.

  • nice version, just as tragic. Do you guys know of Loreena McKennit's version, The Bonny Swans? Its magical

  • This reminds me of a story I read once and a song by Clannad....

  • We Scots-Irish of the Appalachians have this song, but our version is more melancholy (same tune though). YEAH Hyper-Calvanism! LOL

  • Thank you for the lyrics. I really like Altan.

  • "Oh the wind and the rain! Oh the dreadful wind and rain!"

Learned some verses of this very very young - didn't know Altan did it -nor that the sisters were out of Clare -

    Many thanks!

  • This song is cool but the one I heard was about two sisters and the youngest had a love and the oldest didn't so the youngest killed her older sister so she could be married... This is completely different , but still good.

  • @Cora452 i heard the same one, i think it was by dadanon, but im not 100% sure

  • incredible story lyrics
