@bananaramamark April 10, 2012 is when the DVD release for this TV show comes out. The movie has been on DVD for quite some time. Or are you referring to a remake? This is one film that I think is ripe for a remake.
Logan, where will you run to? How will you make it when all your running is through? Will there always be love when you are 30 and you've not a clue? Where will you run to? Logan, will freedom find you? Is this the moment when all your dreams will come true? In this fight to survive, there will be no second chances at all --- you'll rise or fall! And that is why, Logan, you gotta keep on running! Logan's Run! Logan's Run!! Logan's Run!!!
Oh my goodness! I could still hum along to this theme! What does that say about my mis-spent youth? All together now: Ping-ping-ping. Ping-ping-ping. Da DA da-da-da DA-DA... Great stuff
@inamonianim and yet I hummed it all day until mom told me to give it a rest,..nowadays I think as you, annoying as hell. Somethings definitely have to be seen with the eyes of a child, LOL...
Ah, seventies TV! It was cheesy, it was low-tech, and it was usually poorly acted, but it was fun! It was all somehow better without all the glitz and glam we have now.
I purposely got sacked from boyscouts several consecutive sundays in the late 70ties, early 80ties to watch this in the afternoon in the French dubbed version on Antenne 2, French TV. It was called 'L'age de crystal' (the age of crystal).
It took a couple of years - until I saw the movie, before I got to understand what the title meant.
I always liked it more than the film. I thought it was a good American adventure series, which, due to bad timing, got cancelled too quickly
I remember watching this on a night TNT had a Marathon of the show. I remember because it was the night of Hurrican Andrew I was not in it my self. Its how I remember watching it.
I remember watching this on a night TNT had a Marathon of the show. I remember because it was the nught of Hurrican Andrew I was not in it my self. Its how I remember watching it.
I remember on the show, the guns had a stun setting that would fire a beam which would temporarily paralyze the person that it hits. It was so bad that it looked like they they made the laser beams by drawing on the film with a marker.
But who cares if the show had bad theme music and cheesy effects, it was worth it just to see Heather Menzies.
What a douchey theme song... WOOWOOWOO... WOOWOOWOO... I remember liking the movie, probably watched a few episodes of the show, though I don't really remember. Was 15 at the time.
Argh! As a 9 year old back during this show's run in fall 1977, the only way I found out this show was cancelled was by seeing Logan on a new show called Trapper John M.D.
Oh well. I always thought the blond Logan and the brunette Jessica from the movie made a better looking couple anyway.
@wrestlingwomanfan yeah the tv series went further than the movie. Logan and this girl escape and find a android and a solar powered car. Somehow the sandman from the city keep tracking them and try to capture logan and the girl, while logan and the girl find new human settlements with devious plans. it really doesn't make a lot of sense cause why would you put an effort into trying to catch them while they are outside... but it is a good enough reason to do sci fi stuff
@robinvan1983 I really liked the TV series,it had a strip on Look In,watching it now the Actors are let down by lame scripts and not a lot of money spent on the show.
@dramaticguy yeah that android can't act. but script those days where always simple. It's fun to spot the inconsistencies of the stories. Every Sci fi series had very simple and inconsistent stories. Buck rogers, UFO, The champions, Starlost. but that is their charm. I mean with logun's run there was an episode where a guy from the past went to the future to discover what started the nuclear war. eventually he found out that his time travel was the cause of the war but he never prevented it.
@basemalt I hear ya, V the series was out on Friday nights but I could never watch because practice. Years later, I finally saw it via Sci Fi channel and Netflix. What a cheessy show but I love it.
THE coolest guns in 1970's sci-fi, no question. Great muzzle flare! Really bloody annoying theme music though. US. TV. in the 1970's always seemed to have a slew of shows with theme music that did not stay in your head, and was therefore IMPOSSIBLE TO HUM. Why was this? A good example would be 'The Streets Of San Francisco',by, I believe, the great Lalo Schifrin [could be wrong here]. Can you hum it? no. Annoying, isn't it? :D
I read the book and it was very disappointing. One of those rare cases where the movie is better. The book made a lot less sense than either the movie or the TV show, especially at the end.
I used to watch thing without fail every Saturday morning. I wasn't as good as the film, (most of these never are), but I still found it compelling to watch. I was surprised when it ended. Well, I say, 'ended', when it just stopped. No ending, as such. I likes the sandman uniform as I used to have some pyjamas with a stripe across the front just like it. LOL

The movie was fantastic. The TV series ... totally forgettable. In fact, I HAD forgotten about it until I literally stumbled across this YouTube clip.
One of the most disappointing TV series adaptations from a film ever created. The original theatrical film was great. This? Even by my low 1977 expectations (hey, I was just happy to have a SF show on the air) I could barely stomach what they did.

@Allanlegacy43 I think they do. I remember the movie being aired before the show was first aired. I did not think i would like it at first but once I got used to the actors I did just like in Doctor Who where one thinks they will not like the actor who replaced the ealier one. @britfrenir They made the end differnet in it. One of the sand men who chased them shows up and thinks and one sand man who does not know that Logan is a runner shows up and reminds them of the days when they were partners.
This show isn't terrible. I watched the first four episodes. It has some promise. Yeah it has that late 70's feel to it. But shows back then had mild plots. They utilize their guns a lot as plot movers. It's kind of a trip.
I don't think that people would be anywhere near as mean to this theme if it didn't have the 'Pyew! Pyew! Pyew!' (which I really don't mind). With or without it, Laurence Rosenthal's theme is a fine, sweeping melody. I've heard far worse.
Holy shaky camara, it looks like a documentary of the making of the credits. Especially 0:56, that's just ridiculous. I forgot about the show, the movie was spectacular.
@jefft78 Yes, it was a (mercifully) short-lived tv series. You know the scenario--movie is a big hit, so they keep the gravy train rolling by turning it into a big, nationally-televised stinkfest. Really, it was a terrible show. I was only 7 or 8 then, but even by MY childish, undemanding standards, I was mortified for anyone connected with that awful show.
@Ikaftl Sorry, i swear i'm not trying to be rude, but don't you guys have only about 2 channels? And even for that, isn't there that sketchy government van that drives around, trying to detect people who don't pay for the license? Consider yourself lucky--the more channels, the more crap available to Ebola-ize one's brain.
@seanr456 Back when this was shown in the UK (1978), we had three channels : BBC1, BBC2 and ITV. These days we have about 25-30 , plus satellite & cable, but you're correct that a lot of them are full of crap. Haven't seen a detector van in years, these days they assume everybody has a TV, therefore if you're not on the database, they just knock on your door and ask to see a license...
@Ikaftl - a detector van? Wow, you Brits sure took the licence thing seriously. I'm not sure how we did it in Oz, but we did away with radio and TV licences in the early seventies. But then, in those days we only had one ABC TV channel and three commercial ones in capital cities, and one of each in regional areas.
@idislikeaparade the theme music is very similar to "Princess Leia theme" but since both appearead roughl at the same time in 1977 it might be a coincidence, or one was influencedby the other.
I love the instrumental melody, but that siren sound in the back just kills it. This was a pretty nice little show and i enjoyed it back in the day, but it didn't go anywhere.
Being a fan of the film, I love this series. Film Score Monthly released a soundtrack for the series. A bit of a rarity, but worth seeking out if you're a fan.
I used to luv this show! It inspired me into filming! Check out a video I made with afew friends about a prank some kids play on an unsuspecting lady in a park. It's called PRANKSTERS IN THE PARK
I was young when i saw this, star-wars changed everything for me, but saying that this show was a classic, it's our future if were not careful :) - the dissenting Logan against the order, tagging, scanning, an omnipotent elite ruling behind a curtain, population control, all cultures mixed up as one, it's the "Venus" project from the zeitgeist movement, is there a synchronism here? I'm going mad... :) great show.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This is where Obama's health care plan will lead us, as older people are denied care based on the "cost to society" and given "end of life" reviews every five years....
This is one of the worst themes I ever heard for a science fiction series. It is soooo 70's Lalo Schafrin-like with a disco influence. Really baaaaaad.
I loved this show as a kid. It should be released to DVD soon. Since there "rebooting" old shows like "Star Trek" how about Logan's Run. I think that would be great.
Naaaa!.. I think it will be better if they "reboot" Space 1999 or UFO. LOL, the 1990s and the 1980's as respectively protrayed in those two television series were so accurate and just as I rembered when I was a kid.
Eh, the movie was better. This was back in the day when Star Wars inspired & influenced a load of rip - offs in movies & TV, including this series.
The re - imagined / envisioned BSG & the series Babylon 5 have been diamonds in a very LARGE pile of televisual OWL POOP, ask Harlan Ellison sometime......
My goodness that was cheesy. Enjoyably cheesy!

"LOGAN'S RUN" was an intresting TV series, since it was based on the MGM
film a year before. science fiction sure took a major leap in 1977,with the success
of "STAR WARS" and "CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND",,so it was
rather odd,on how CBS thought, that by making this into a series, that it could make
a dent-and this is not a crittisism-but only that the timing was somewhat off! the TV
series was pretty well made,,but people were still dazed by "STAR WARS" back
then,,so it didn't make it!

Is it it just me or does Heather Menzies look a lot like Emily Deschanel ?

I was nine when this show aired. Loved it. I don't think it lasted a dozen episodes.

Camara? Camera. Wtf.
b1tbomb 1 year ago
Holy shaky camara, it looks like a documentary of the making of the credits. Especially 0:56, that's just ridiculous. I forgot about the show, the movie was spectacular.

we did get it in england.i remember the robot rem!
MrPetercriss1971 1 year ago
There was a series? I thought it was only a movie.
jefft78 2 years ago
@jefft78 Yes, it was a (mercifully) short-lived tv series. You know the scenario--movie is a big hit, so they keep the gravy train rolling by turning it into a big, nationally-televised stinkfest. Really, it was a terrible show. I was only 7 or 8 then, but even by MY childish, undemanding standards, I was mortified for anyone connected with that awful show.
seanr456 1 year ago
I used to watch this show!! It only ran a few episodes!!
Great Post!!

wow we never got this in england. We got the film version at the end of the 70s classic film you could of sent us this instead of tj hooker
Jaythedoors 2 years ago
Yes, we did get this in England. I remember watching it, though I can't remember which channel it was on.
Ikaftl 1 year ago
@Ikaftl Sorry, i swear i'm not trying to be rude, but don't you guys have only about 2 channels? And even for that, isn't there that sketchy government van that drives around, trying to detect people who don't pay for the license? Consider yourself lucky--the more channels, the more crap available to Ebola-ize one's brain.
seanr456 1 year ago
@seanr456 Back when this was shown in the UK (1978), we had three channels : BBC1, BBC2 and ITV. These days we have about 25-30 , plus satellite & cable, but you're correct that a lot of them are full of crap. Haven't seen a detector van in years, these days they assume everybody has a TV, therefore if you're not on the database, they just knock on your door and ask to see a license...
Ikaftl 1 year ago
@Ikaftl - a detector van? Wow, you Brits sure took the licence thing seriously. I'm not sure how we did it in Oz, but we did away with radio and TV licences in the early seventies. But then, in those days we only had one ABC TV channel and three commercial ones in capital cities, and one of each in regional areas.

right at the beginning at about 0:05 the theme is reminiscent of "han solo and the princess" from episode 5. anyone agree?
idislikeaparade 2 years ago
@idislikeaparade the theme music is very similar to "Princess Leia theme" but since both appearead roughl at the same time in 1977 it might be a coincidence, or one was influencedby the other.
BadIdeaBearCub 1 year ago
Hilarious theme music ... shame they couldn't have used the excellent film score instead.

Nice theme, but absolutely ruined by the '70s disco styleee and that RIDICULOUS 'weoow weoow weoow' noise! lol
Funnier than the Space 1999 theme? Maybe, it's close... :)

This is where Obama's health care plan will lead us, as older people are denied care based on the "cost to society" and given "end of life" reviews every five years....

Oh God. There was barely enough of an idea to make into a film(which I personally love), let alone a series. Looks like a poor man's Buck Rogers.

This is one of the worst themes I ever heard for a science fiction series. It is soooo 70's Lalo Schafrin-like with a disco influence. Really baaaaaad.

aw, well i loved it! i rememember reading a book based on it too. Ah the seventies, the innocence!
Dhakhaya 2 years ago 3
The series was based (VERY loosely) on the book... In fact it was more that the series was based on the movie which was, in turn based on the book.

it lasted maybe half a season supposely there is a rumor that Logan's Run is going to be remade.

The TV series, imho, was a very good idea, poorly executed! The movie was, & still IS, a CLASSIC!)

I loved this show as a kid. It should be released to DVD soon. Since there "rebooting" old shows like "Star Trek" how about Logan's Run. I think that would be great.
mmichaelc 2 years ago
Naaaa!.. I think it will be better if they "reboot" Space 1999 or UFO. LOL, the 1990s and the 1980's as respectively protrayed in those two television series were so accurate and just as I rembered when I was a kid.
22250rmntn 2 years ago
UFO IS getting a reboot. There's a big-screen revival in the offing.
SteveSputnik 2 years ago
Eh, the movie was better. This was back in the day when Star Wars inspired & influenced a load of rip - offs in movies & TV, including this series.
The re - imagined / envisioned BSG & the series Babylon 5 have been diamonds in a very LARGE pile of televisual OWL POOP, ask Harlan Ellison sometime......
