  • the clip at 1.55 where he's pulling off the shirt, is it on youtube? any body send me a link please

  • pete so loved kieth

  • ....Keith Moon was trying to fill the void we all have without a purpose in life which is to glorify God. Nothing else will do.

  • In the Festival os Isle of Wight film extras, Pete tells a slightly different story. Instead of smashing the TV, he tells that Keith forgot to trough the TV set in the pool. Is a different incident, perhaps?

  • The irony is that he died just when he was trying to quit drugs and alchool, not exactly from a conventional overdose.

Sometimes I think if we should just accept people the way they are -- I don`t know for sure...

  • @fontanalu a very famous sportswriter here in Los Angeles (Jim Murray) once wrote that he didn't want to be like so many of his friends who gave drinking and got sick. Still, Keith died way too soon.

  • @damianvillareal69 Squeeze Box from the album The Who By Numbers

  • @BleekerSoL thanks :)

  • im new to ''the who '' there badass :) i been wanting to know wats the name of the song starting at 0:32??

  • @damianvillarreal69 It's called "Squeeze Box"

  • @MrDannyLW thank u :)

  • "he's dead, he's dead..he's dead because of drugs"...how awful it's clear he and Pete Townshend cared about each other. The biggest impression I have from what I've seen and read about Keith Moon is that he was a big little boy...how sad

  • where can I find the vids from 1:56-2:00? those seem slightly strange..

  • @XxDazedandConfusedx1 look for the film "The Kids Are Alright", 1979 ;)

  • @MetallerMet thanks so much!

  • RIP Keith

  • los amo a los 3 !!!! a los 4 !!!!

  • I WANT MY MTV BACK!!!!

  • I always loved the clip at 2:06 because it shows Pete's concern for Keith. The fact that he holds out his hand to help him down shows that he was painfully aware that Keith was not invincible and that he was going downhill physically. It's a sad clip, but somehow touching.

  • song at 2:17?

  • @ConnorG56

    "Join Together," from 1972.

  • Love this clip...but WHY SQUEEZE BOX??? Fuck I hate that song.

  • @kovalevisgod

    Nothing wrong with squeezebox.

    Accordions rule!

  • and Pete the nonce, hilarious combo.

  • @jd6735 He was a man that lived to entertain. Everything he did, he did to make people laugh. He'd rather die then not finish his joke. That what he did, was dumb, and he had a habit of taking handfuls of pills, but he did that becouse he was a brave ( you can call it dumb if you want ) and he would never let his joke "die".

He lived and died just to entertain us.

    Thank you Keith. RIP

  • @jd6735 why dont you fuck off back down your hole u wanker at least keith had a great time while he was here and has left a mark on the rock scene...your a little nobody that will be remembered for fuck all .

  • @jd6735

He didn't "chock." He didn't choke either. Heminevrin depresses the central nervous system, so it was a neurological shut-down. I think the real stupidity was the from the doctor; that medication is to be given in a hospital, under supervision. You don't give that stuff to an addict to take in his own home. Overdosing is foolish, it's almost like he chose to check out. Noone will ever know why he did this, apart from this being simple addiction.

  • there is a great article

    in this months

    New Yorker magazine

    on Keith

  • RIP keith, never will u be forgotten<3 - pmsl ''I 4got t smash the tv'' lol - it was cut short but wot a fuckin gr8 life ya led up until that sad day xx

  • That is the first time I have seen where Pete looks like he is going to Cry.

Then he says he is dead, it is not a joke.

    That is pretty honest.

  • that first photo... LOL :-)

  • "I forgot to smash the television"

  • The best part of this is what Pete says at 2:18, addressing other musicians.

  • I love Pete's boots! He looks like he just came from a chainsaw murder in the woods...

  • keith cracks me up sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much. he is my drumming idol!

  • If you were onstage after a great concert who would you prefer to hug you, who you prefer to run up and hug you, Keith or a willowy blonde? Roger got the blonde, Pete got the Moon!

  • @lebarosky - moon any day :-)

  • well said guitardds, he was able to inflict his personality into the kit and raised the bar for rock band members to be entertaining to watch as well...what pete said towards the end of the video was also true ... a good read is the biography by Dougal, Keith's assistant

  • He was what he was

  • Pete Townshend hit it on the head. Have fun without destroying yourself. Drugs and alcohol kills. We all want to be liked and make everyone around us laugh. It cost Keith his life. I think thats what Townsend message is. You can enjoy life without killing yourself in the process.

  • @ortleyman even though he had done drugs and drank alot himself

but kept it under control anyway

  • @ortleyman During the party for the "Buddy Holly Story"; Keith complained to his close friends that he breathing problems..

  • what a man , he was a whole orchesta , powered the band that was years and decades and milleniums ahead of there time! no one can slam a drum set like him , my favoirt and crazyest drummer i ever new

  • what interview is that they are having? what year?

  • @909musicluver 1989

  • Pete said in an interview how he hated it when an interviewer expected him to cry a little over discussing Keith's death, and Pete never would. He basically said that in his opinion, when a person's dead, they're dead. He obviously misses Keith, but I guess Pete isn't the kind of person to cry over someone's death.

  • Haha I forgot to smash the television

  • he was so cute.....

perhaps he was a Gemini... I am like that.. oh it would have been a death call for me if I was famous.. the world of excess...

but we all miss him.. for sure.. he is dead.. dam it..

  • @Starlitblond

His birthday was in August, making him Virgo. I have never believed that astrology business, but I think his birthday is the23rd. Not positive, though.

  • oh my god.. thank you for the link.... what a trip..

  • and let me be clear, when I say overdubbed, I do not mean by studio musicians, it is all Keith except for Music Must Change, on that he is just the cymbals, Townsend did the beat because it is 6/8

they had to have Keith play over his tracks, whether they mixed over them or mixed together different takes to get the finished product only the band and engineer know

  • it is very sad to read pages 548-when Keith died and Annette tried to do cpr, and how the world, the band, his family, reacted, I've read them many times and they always have the same effect on me............Not To Be Taken Away

  • the Dr Chapman took him to gave him 6 months to 2 years unless Keith really wanted help

sadly, the WRU tracks were overdubbed by Keith, whether they added track on track or just had him do the songs over, I'm not sure, I think it is a mix from song to song, and his playing on baba & wgfa on kaar show this, that was after wru, and on page 545 it tells of how even kaar was over dubbed

when he came back from the states he was a dead man walking, he needed to be locked away for his own good

  • Tony Fletchers book-MOON, pages 521-end

Keith was so bad when the band called for WRU recording, he tried to quit drinking, Annette found him in a seizure, at the hospital she was told he would not survive, and he found he could not play unless indulging, he had gone that far, the day of final start they went to a restaurant across the street where Pete rounded one on Moon and told him to "get your shit together or you out", later Graham Chapman stepped in and tried to help Keith

  • dont care keith, has something ,we all would like to be like not to care!

  • Moon was the greatest showman in the world for drummer standards.Moon was rock'roll that between his genius drumming there will never be another Moon.I saw the Who in 1976 in the boston garden i will never forget it the show about to start they play 2 songs and then daltry say's Moon has passed out they have to cancell the show there was a riot down landsdown street in boston they did come back the following week and Moon made up his inconvience to the fans. They found out he took a horse downer

  • another bit I found

The original idea for "Yellowbeard" came from Keith Moon, drummer for "The Who," who also happened to be a huge Python fan and close friend of Graham Chapman. Although involved in the early conceptual stages of "Yellowbeard," Keith died on September 7, 1978 from a drug overdose.

He was, in fact, set to do some acting in Monty Python's "Life of Brian," which would begin filming nine days after his death.

Imagine Keith in "Life of Brian"

  • I have often wondered if Peter Boyle's part Bosun Moon was based on Keith, or at least named after him.

If you haven't seen it, its a pretty funny film, its basically three comedy camps, Monty Python, Mel Brooks gang, and Cheech&Chong all brought together for one movie.

It didn't do well on release but now is a cult favorite, too bad Keith wasn't in it, too bad Keith didn't take care of himself

    so, take care of yourself

  • yep and ur brilyant, I cud tel by ur spelin

back to reality with real people

at 1:56 there's a shot of a pirate outfit, Keith originally had he concept for and funded-at first- the movie Yellowbeard.

Keith Moon wanted to play the lead role, was dropped early on because of his obviously deteriorating health.

The part went from Adam Ant to Sting to Martin Hewitt to Graham Chapman , it took years to make and Marty Feldman died while filming it.

  • Roger Daltrey has Will Ferrel hair.

Keith Moon and Jonh Bonham are the saddest stories I have ever heard. They both looked so happy.

  • 2:34-2:56

I'm surprised Pete said that without breaking down.

  • Pete originally though it was another of Keith's jokes, until he saw the body, it obviously still hurts

they could read each others minds on stage

  • I'm pretty sure Pete has said that to himself already many times after finding out about Keith's death.

  • One thing "I" think hurt Keith and made him "indulge" worse was when he accidentally killed his body guard/driver Neil Boland, he was cleared of manslaughter but I think he became self destructive after, punishing himself, I think he may have been trying to kill himself while punishing himself, and no one knew....I'm sure it haunted him.

  • I think the whole Keith Moon story is really sad. Every video he looks like the greatest most glorious guy ever, hilarious and constantly joking.

His live performance was just mind blowing, the musical and visual presence I mean, you couldn't just sit keith moon way at the back of the stage, he was so part of the show.

    Real sad

  • He wasn't too nice to his wife as far as I have read.

  • Moonie died on September 7. Buddy Holiday's birthday. Same as my birthday. Kinda weird. What's in store for ME? LOL!

  • Well, considering you probably haven't an ounce of the talent of either Buddy or Keith, then the comparison is probably useless.

  • Forgot to smash the television, haha.

  • I really feel sorry for Annette, finding him, it's just the snowball effect of partying, everyday his routine was to party real hard until the wee hours, get up at @10am, have a drink and a steak and pass out for few hours, then get up and do it again, with no physical activity or drumming when not with the Who, the time off between Quad By Numbers Who Are You, really aged him

read Tony Fletcher & Dougal Butlers books, check my video for a tribute, my way of thanking Keith for my drumming

  • @905Alive - yeah, she freaked out apparently and had to be sedated. I can't imagine how she must have felt. She loved Keith. Her and Kim were the only women by all accounts who ever really loved Keith for himself, flaws and all.

Tony Fletcher's book is extraordinary and gives a good insight to Keith. I agree completely with Tony that Keith had terrible mental health problems. Such a shame, he could probably be helped today were he still alive. Rest in Peace Keith, dear boy x

  • I'm not sure id he had mental health issues, he was for sure a hyper active kid, but being thrust into a super star at 16, I think he like so many had no responsibility, and he drank hard booze, lots of it with drugs for favors, it altered his mind, Annette would say when he was somewhat sober he was this brilliant great guy, but like many hard core alcoholics, the mean side kicks at a point, when you see him take on reporters you can see his brilliance

  • Sadly, I'm speaking as one who also has mental health issues. I think you'll find that a lot of people feel that Keith was at the very least bipolar, and there is also mention of borderline personality disorder.

Kim tried to get him to see a psychiatrist because of to his problems. Alcohol and drugs obviously made him worse, but there were definitely problems before that..

I don't mean to be contentious. I still love and respect Keith. Maybe more so, it's very hard to live with.

  • I guess we'll never know, the hardest part for me is the 30+ undigested heminevrin pills in his stomach. I don't believe in normal, it doesn't exist, I think some people are just boring, others have a light that Keith had, his was bright. I really always identified with Keith, I could always drum like him ( see my site for videos); he'll always be a part of me. Only Annette and Dougal can give accurate descriptions of his personality traits and patterns.

  • and you have to remember he was partying flat out from @'65, so when you say "prior", he nearly killed Kim a couple of times, it was the drugs and booze, he was hyper imaginative, always a prankster, as a kid he'd make announcements over the R/R PA systems in a Nazi voice telling "the Jews" to board the trains for the gas chambers.

Not sure how you would classify him when he was straight, prior to '65

  • 905 you cant drum like him, your delusional. your a terrible drummer

  • sounds like you have a jealousy disorder

get that checked, if you have something constructive to say, say it

I've watched every drummer here, I'm the closest thing there is, sound wise, style wise

and I'm just jammin, not auditioning, been there, done that, big deal

  • yeh rite! uve got ur head up ur arse maybe terrible drummer was a bit harsh, ur a good drummer, but u dont play nothing like him style wise or sound wise. babyshambler nails it, u dont even come close sorry.

  • @joeyuk2121...delusional?...l say tripping is more like it, lol

  • lol definatley!

  • Moon the Loon is my inspiration he is aazing i wish i could of seen him liv. Im still gonna see the who live anyway!

    XD

  • at 2:39 I cant even understand how Pete said this without breaking into tears. They probably had to do a few takes on this.

  • 2:09 Meith looks soo fat

  • Moon was really overweight before he died.

  • Yeah he was hardly standing up. He was exhausted from playing yes, but he wasn't doing good.

I've read somewhere that this performance was re-recorded because the drum was completely off and he couldn't play

  • I have the original Kids Are All Right on album and video, and it;s freaking different than what I have now on the new dvd, thats fucked up

  • its real sad, I wonder how much of Who R U is over dubbed?

I listen to Whos Next and think: what a break through sound

  • NOT overdubbed at all. The album was released several months before his death.

  • LOL the surfer in the swimming pool :D

  • MOON is THE best rock drummer, He's the only one who played drums with PASSION rather then just keeping time. His fills are like none other.

  • his beats are fills in a way. he interpretted the whole piece, not jus tthe rhythm

  • the greatest drummer on planet.

  • What about Mitch Mitchell? >_>

  • Nyaah...Mitchell was nothing, Moon was the king !!!

  • @guitardds John Henry Bonham , Moby Dick! dodododoo doo dododoo

  • lmao i forgot to smash the televison hes my idol

  • @jameswilliamstafford hahahah yer i pissed myself laughing...

  • Awesome. Pete Townshend is my idol now coz he said that at the end... " we want people to have fun WITHOUT destroying themselves..."

  • Yeah, Zappa's been "preaching" similiar things forever..... Difference is Frank never did drink or drugs, Pete has astruggled with substances... Same message, just different perspectives....

  • lmao" i forgot to smash the television.

  • Great, thanks for sharing................

  • Cool clip!

  • Jesus christ THANK YOU for uploading this one

  • "What we want our fellow musicians to do now is have fun....without destroying themselves...."

  • What is it you forgot? I forgot to smash the television, ha!

  • HA! He forgot to smash the televison!

  • Thank you, great vid!

  • Thx for this!
