In the Festival os Isle of Wight film extras, Pete tells a slightly different story. Instead of smashing the TV, he tells that Keith forgot to trough the TV set in the pool. Is a different incident, perhaps?
@fontanalu a very famous sportswriter here in Los Angeles (Jim Murray) once wrote that he didn't want to be like so many of his friends who gave drinking and got sick. Still, Keith died way too soon.
"he's dead, he's dead..he's dead because of drugs"...how awful it's clear he and Pete Townshend cared about each other. The biggest impression I have from what I've seen and read about Keith Moon is that he was a big little boy...how sad
I always loved the clip at 2:06 because it shows Pete's concern for Keith. The fact that he holds out his hand to help him down shows that he was painfully aware that Keith was not invincible and that he was going downhill physically. It's a sad clip, but somehow touching.

"I forgot to smash the television" what a funny fucking retard, Moon must have had an IQ of 70, that's why he took 35 fucking pills of Heminevrin, bet it wasn't so funny when he was chocking on his own vomit
@jd6735 He was a man that lived to entertain. Everything he did, he did to make people laugh. He'd rather die then not finish his joke. That what he did, was dumb, and he had a habit of taking handfuls of pills, but he did that becouse he was a brave ( you can call it dumb if you want ) and he would never let his joke "die".
@jd6735 why dont you fuck off back down your hole u wanker at least keith had a great time while he was here and has left a mark on the rock scene...your a little nobody that will be remembered for fuck all .
He didn't "chock." He didn't choke either. Heminevrin depresses the central nervous system, so it was a neurological shut-down. I think the real stupidity was the from the doctor; that medication is to be given in a hospital, under supervision. You don't give that stuff to an addict to take in his own home. Overdosing is foolish, it's almost like he chose to check out. Noone will ever know why he did this, apart from this being simple addiction.
RIP keith, never will u be forgotten<3 - pmsl ''I 4got t smash the tv'' lol - it was cut short but wot a fuckin gr8 life ya led up until that sad day xx
If you were onstage after a great concert who would you prefer to hug you, who you prefer to run up and hug you, Keith or a willowy blonde? Roger got the blonde, Pete got the Moon!
well said guitardds, he was able to inflict his personality into the kit and raised the bar for rock band members to be entertaining to watch as well...what pete said towards the end of the video was also true ... a good read is the biography by Dougal, Keith's assistant
Pete Townshend hit it on the head. Have fun without destroying yourself. Drugs and alcohol kills. We all want to be liked and make everyone around us laugh. It cost Keith his life. I think thats what Townsend message is. You can enjoy life without killing yourself in the process.
what a man , he was a whole orchesta , powered the band that was years and decades and milleniums ahead of there time! no one can slam a drum set like him , my favoirt and crazyest drummer i ever new
Pete said in an interview how he hated it when an interviewer expected him to cry a little over discussing Keith's death, and Pete never would. He basically said that in his opinion, when a person's dead, they're dead. He obviously misses Keith, but I guess Pete isn't the kind of person to cry over someone's death.
His birthday was in August, making him Virgo. I have never believed that astrology business, but I think his birthday is the23rd. Not positive, though.
and let me be clear, when I say overdubbed, I do not mean by studio musicians, it is all Keith except for Music Must Change, on that he is just the cymbals, Townsend did the beat because it is 6/8
they had to have Keith play over his tracks, whether they mixed over them or mixed together different takes to get the finished product only the band and engineer know
it is very sad to read pages 548-when Keith died and Annette tried to do cpr, and how the world, the band, his family, reacted, I've read them many times and they always have the same effect on me............Not To Be Taken Away
the Dr Chapman took him to gave him 6 months to 2 years unless Keith really wanted help
sadly, the WRU tracks were overdubbed by Keith, whether they added track on track or just had him do the songs over, I'm not sure, I think it is a mix from song to song, and his playing on baba & wgfa on kaar show this, that was after wru, and on page 545 it tells of how even kaar was over dubbed
when he came back from the states he was a dead man walking, he needed to be locked away for his own good
Keith was so bad when the band called for WRU recording, he tried to quit drinking, Annette found him in a seizure, at the hospital she was told he would not survive, and he found he could not play unless indulging, he had gone that far, the day of final start they went to a restaurant across the street where Pete rounded one on Moon and told him to "get your shit together or you out", later Graham Chapman stepped in and tried to help Keith
Moon was the greatest showman in the world for drummer standards.Moon was rock'roll that between his genius drumming there will never be another Moon.I saw the Who in 1976 in the boston garden i will never forget it the show about to start they play 2 songs and then daltry say's Moon has passed out they have to cancell the show there was a riot down landsdown street in boston they did come back the following week and Moon made up his inconvience to the fans. They found out he took a horse downer
The original idea for "Yellowbeard" came from Keith Moon, drummer for "The Who," who also happened to be a huge Python fan and close friend of Graham Chapman. Although involved in the early conceptual stages of "Yellowbeard," Keith died on September 7, 1978 from a drug overdose.
He was, in fact, set to do some acting in Monty Python's "Life of Brian," which would begin filming nine days after his death.
I have often wondered if Peter Boyle's part Bosun Moon was based on Keith, or at least named after him.
If you haven't seen it, its a pretty funny film, its basically three comedy camps, Monty Python, Mel Brooks gang, and Cheech&Chong all brought together for one movie.
It didn't do well on release but now is a cult favorite, too bad Keith wasn't in it, too bad Keith didn't take care of himself
One thing "I" think hurt Keith and made him "indulge" worse was when he accidentally killed his body guard/driver Neil Boland, he was cleared of manslaughter but I think he became self destructive after, punishing himself, I think he may have been trying to kill himself while punishing himself, and no one knew....I'm sure it haunted him.
I think the whole Keith Moon story is really sad. Every video he looks like the greatest most glorious guy ever, hilarious and constantly joking.
His live performance was just mind blowing, the musical and visual presence I mean, you couldn't just sit keith moon way at the back of the stage, he was so part of the show.
I really feel sorry for Annette, finding him, it's just the snowball effect of partying, everyday his routine was to party real hard until the wee hours, get up at @10am, have a drink and a steak and pass out for few hours, then get up and do it again, with no physical activity or drumming when not with the Who, the time off between Quad By Numbers Who Are You, really aged him

@905Alive - yeah, she freaked out apparently and had to be sedated. I can't imagine how she must have felt. She loved Keith. Her and Kim were the only women by all accounts who ever really loved Keith for himself, flaws and all.
Tony Fletcher's book is extraordinary and gives a good insight to Keith. I agree completely with Tony that Keith had terrible mental health problems. Such a shame, he could probably be helped today were he still alive. Rest in Peace Keith, dear boy x
I'm not sure id he had mental health issues, he was for sure a hyper active kid, but being thrust into a super star at 16, I think he like so many had no responsibility, and he drank hard booze, lots of it with drugs for favors, it altered his mind, Annette would say when he was somewhat sober he was this brilliant great guy, but like many hard core alcoholics, the mean side kicks at a point, when you see him take on reporters you can see his brilliance

at 1:56 there's a shot of a pirate outfit, Keith originally had he concept for and funded-at first- the movie Yellowbeard.
Keith Moon wanted to play the lead role, was dropped early on because of his obviously deteriorating health.
The part went from Adam Ant to Sting to Martin Hewitt to Graham Chapman , it took years to make and Marty Feldman died while filming it.
