  • Thanks for this. We've been listening to this for a bit of inspiration. My nine year old, is learning to play this piece on his tenor horn and wanted to know what it was "meant to sound like". Wish we could find more of his pieces to listen to for help.

  • I love this music this though is the best one yet :)

  • I love this tune it always brings a smile to my face.

  • I love this brass version.

  • i love brass instruments but wheres the trombone?

  • @IMEMYSELFHI435 the guy whos playing euphonium (lance la duke) also plays trombone for the boston brass but switches on and off in songs

  • @SuperMusicManiac13 Oh, okay. yeah i play trombone and trumpet and maybe french horn. cooliyo

  • i was playing civilization 5, and this song came on, and it was absolutely amazing.

  • That poor tuba player :(

  • Simply Beautiful.....thanks for sharing.

  • i too have favorited this. This is, without doubt, one of the best pieces ever composed.

for those who don't know, Anton Dvorak wrote the New World Symphony when he was residing in Spillville, Iowa, and became homesick for the Czech homeland

  • @superpaperdude "I am convinced that the future music of this country must be founded on what are called Negro melodies. These can be the foundation of a serious and original school of composition, to be developed in the United States. These beautiful and varied themes are the product of the soil. They are the folk songs of America and your composers must turn to them." - Antonín Dvořák

  • @RLJB25 very good...sure is nice to run into someone on the internet who is intelligent and cultured...I have heard of that quote before, and if you listen closely to Largo, you can hear the ethnic influences in the song.

  • @superpaperdude From what InI gather'd/researched , Dvorak didn't write this because he was homesick at all!!! He wrote this because of his inspiriation. "In the negro melodies of America I discover all that is needed for a great and noble school of music." - Antonin Dvorak , Composer of "New world Symphony a.k.a: Symphony No.9 Peace and Blessings!! Truth everytime!!

  • @RLJB25 honestly, I think it is a little of both. Like i said, you can hear the influences in this piece. and, at the museum at the house he wrote it in, they had writings by him indicating that he was indeed wanting to return to Czech at the time.

  • @superpaperdude Agree'd!! I'm sure he was missing home as any artist/ person would when their away!! I just find it FASCINATING what Dvorak consitantly says about his inspriations for the song!! These facts about Native and African culture/ influence and its MASSIVE impact on western society always get dismissed and never brought into the limelight unfortunatly... !!! Great Composition!! Great talk!! Peace and Blessings!!

  • Simply Amazing... nothing more can be said! =)

  • Magnificent!!

    Thank you!

This is one of my favourite pieces.

    SUCH modulation!

  • Hi, very nice and decent done. Antonín Dvořák is my favourit Czech composer, even largo is my most favourit piece. This small group delivered the same strong feeling as the whole orchestra. Very goood.

  • unreal. gorgeous.

  • This is one of the many demonstrations of why I love low brass so much!!!

    (this coming from a singer/cellist).

  • I'm impressed by the instruments chosen to be part of this quintet. AWESOME!!

  • Excellent performance!

  • Gran Interpretación de Dvorak. Saludos Jose Carlos. Un gran trompetista Tico.

  • Love the cornet. Beautiful. I remember playing this piece with a brass band some years ago. Brings back some wonderful memories.

  • no big deal, I can do this with a mouth full of pizzia :-P

  • reminds me of private Ryan brings up alot of emotions good and bad

  • I like those classics.

  • Lol, I performed this for a 7th grade concert xD, this sounds WAAAYYYY better. Trumpet = Ownage.

  • Ah... This song reminds me of 6th grade, when Cole was in band too, and we all SUCKED! But it was still good cause my flute skills were on TOP!!!!

  • @IamN0Thappy

    woot for the flute!

  • 5 Stars gentlemen! Sissel the soprano from Norway sings this as Goin Home. She is a fantastic vocalist and would sound great with your brass!! :) Blessings from Wisc

  • its damn hard to play, i play a tuba, its also on the hovis adverts

  • Largo. My favorite part of the New World Symphony. Those chords are so insanely powerful. w00t Antonin Dvorak.

  • Simply fantastic. This melody sound majestic in brass.

  • what a beautiful piece of music, really well performed too

    pleasure to listen to

  • SO beautifull ♥

  • It's sad that JD Shaw (Horn) retired from the group, it will never be the same.

  • I WAS AT THIS CONCERT!!! I heart Boston Brass.

  • Whoever says Jupiter horns arent good needs to know that this group uses them exclusively. I want that 584 CC tuba, I just recently switched to CC from BBb and I love it.

  • Seriously dude! I hate it when people bash on their reputation. I had performed on Sam Pilafian's personal custom Jupiter once and it was great! I also agree with the switch to CC, I play on a Hirsbrunner and have never looked back.

  • Yeah I really like CCs. The one I'm using currently belongs to my community band. It's a Meinl Weston 2155. It's a rotary 5 valve tuba, but its good enough until I get my own CC. I personally prefer pistons to rotarys, a lot quicker to me. This Jupiter 584 would probably be a great choice for me.

  • Dude that's awesome! I am also borrowing the horn I use from CSU, Fresno. I hope I can afford a Hirsbrunner CC someday lol. I've also been using the B&S Perentucci F tuba that the school owns. I prefer the pistons as well, but all of the tubas at Fresno state have rotors =/ I hope you find what you need soon! =)

  • @CorvetteCoonass And some people say Yamaha's aren't good, while Canadian Brass uses solely Yamaha's now. It's the player that matters, and if they partner with the horn company they can get the horns built to their exact specifications.

  • Beautiful--all professional and sounds like the whole symphony. Thank you

  • to je česka hudba!!!!!!!

  • Beautiful. Amazing harmony among the brass section with the French Horn, Trumpet and Horn.

  • awesome !

  • gorgeous arrangement!

  • i have favourited and added this to my playlists!! this was played at the crematorium when we went to see my grandad one last time, and i can remember this song playing in the background, thanks for the post...

  • @nickynoodles33 #

    no song..

  • @tubamarius

what do you mean, no song?

  • beutiful sound i love this music and i can play this on the cornet but it doesn't sound anywhere near as good as this thank you so very much

  • This is unrelated, but I love how we tuba players always get to sit while everyone else stands :)

Very beautiful performance too of course.

  • Grrr!! :)

  • JD Shaw is a god!

  • masterpiece

  • i wish i could of videod a british brass band do this piece when i went to a park on momorial day last year, they near had me in tears with pride.

  • what key are they playing it in?

I'm no good at identifying key.

  • It is in D-flat.

    lol

  • Comment removed

  • It is in d-flat! Why would you make a comment like this if you don't even know what key it is in?
